“Steyning's best kept secret!”
Reviewed February 2, 2014

Having recently started work in Steyning, we were looking for the best place to get lunch. We tried a few places before finding Chez Joel. The baguettes are fantastic value, generously filled and freshly prepared. After one visit - we do not lunch anywhere else!

The boss and the staff are lovely, friendly, and great fun.

We were so impressed with our lunches, (and some of the breakfasts we've had too!) that we decided to book a table for the French bistro evening meal. The value was fantastic as ever. Our food was delicious and the staff were accomodating as always. I am a bit of a 'fusspot' and the staff tailored my meal wherever possible. Such customer focus is refreshing. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening and the banter with the boss!

Overall - a lovely little place. I would certainly recommend it to anyone.

“Great lunch”
Reviewed December 25, 2013

A group of 4 of us met at Chez Joel on Christmas Eve . Despite a shortage of staff the food and service was great. The most delicious omelette with smoked salmon and cream cheese was a delight. Our waitress was great fun! Will definitely return.

“Excellent service”

A qute French restaurant, small and friendly, very good value. You can buy other French foods and enjoy the atmosphere of all it has to offer. Well worth a visit whilst enjoying visiting Steyning..

“The real thing”
Reviewed December 20, 2013

It's a proper, unpretentious, homely French restaurant / café / deli in the heart of Sussex. We've eaten there a few times now, even on the French-speaking Thursdays (not as scary as it sounds), and it's always been authentic, tasty and good value. I recently had snails, followed by a beautiful beef stew (pot au feu) and a Paris-Brest for dessert, with a bottle bottle of the house red Chinon - couldn't fault it.

Service is very friendly, and the ambience is very homely and non-corporate, which I love. I've also been there for breakfasts and just a coffee, and the welcome is always the same.

We're definitely going back. Highly recommended.
