“Perfect Stay”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

My wife and I decided to visit Brighton this weekend but decided to stay in Steyning and drive in. Springwells was perfect for us, a 1772 building oozing old world charm, with such caring staff. The common rooms are decorated and furnished very comfortably and with elegant style. On our return Saturday evening, a complimentary cheese board was offered for guests wishing to stay around in the living room area.
Our four poster bed room was gorgeous and so thoughtful of them to leave a note in the teapot to let us know that fresh milk was available in a small fridge on the landing. The all included breakfast was so absolutely superb, we took an hour and half enjoying kippers and wonderfully poached eggs, extra jugs of coffee and toast.
Definitely needs a second visit!

Room Tip: Four poster room is fabulous

The picture gives an impression of a lovely country house, it is but on the edge of the street with no on site parking, but you can park across the road and on the street. Its rating of a 3 star accommodation is accurate, its clean but tired, could do with a good redecoration. Our room was large with two single beds together but a "topper" over so that they were together and it was comfortable. Wall paper was very old fashioned and peeling in places. We over looked a conservatory, the roof needs a good clean and attention it wasn't pleasant. Tea tray with biscuits etc but no water was provided, robes and toiletries, no shampoo. There is a fridge in the hall way for fresh milk and a basket of fruit also a basket of "necessities" if you require them in an emergency! A nice lounge over looking the road to sit in and the breakfast room was very nice with a lovely breakfast served. Overall a pleasant stay but could just do with an up date.

Room Tip: if you want a shower, ask for a room with one

We stayed here over the Easter weekend for a relaxing break in which we did a bit of walking on the South Downs and explored the historic town. The B&B is ideally situated, at the top of Steyning high street and close to the little cafes, shops and pubs around. It's also incredibly close to the walking trails so you don't have to go far to stumble into the amazing scenery all around. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was quiet, clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated with a great big bed and a lovely bay window overlooking the nearby cottage rooftops and B&B garden. We were up in time for breakfast each morning which was great - there is a large selection to choose from including fried breakfasts, fresh fruit and porridge (and the option to have a bit of everything too!) and there were even some mini eggs thrown in for a seasonal touch! In short, we had a lovely time here and would definitely recommend it, and the town of Steyning too for a relaxing country retreat.

Room Tip: We were in the Willow room which was large and lovely

I stayed here for a few weeks while working in the area and the location is ideal both for exploring the South Downs or walking into Steyning. The people are all so friendly and helpful they are faultless. I never ate here as i was up and out before breakfast but i stayed in 4 different rooms over the time i was here. All were spacious and generally comfortable apart from the squeeky floorboards but the place really needs a makeover as it is very tired. most of the bathrooms need updating and whilst clean they arent the best. However, nicer than some of the competition!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quietest but the four posters are all at the front / on the High Street. In fa...

A beautiful building in an incredibly atmospheric town. Highly recommend you pay it a visit. On check-in the Italian receptionist excitedly recounted the history of the house. Looked after with TLC it ouzed of nostagia. Good to have a nice bar and guest lounge. Unusual these days in such a hotel to have the extra of a free cheese reception at 7 o'clock. I booked a room 'with no facilities' but it was useful (and nostalgic) to have a sink. The shared bathroom was well-appointed, but the angle of the roof made it impossible to have a shower and the bath wasn't full length, but I still enjoyed a good soak. To be served everything at breakfast is a rarity these days, you should try it you will love it. Everyone involved in my stay was ever so friendly. They made a difference and I headed out for another day on the South Downs Way with a spring in my step.

From the welcome on arrival, through great service to concern whether you had a good visit this place is a delight .Situated in a quiet area of a quiet village .Easy access to Brighton or the downs. We only stayed one night but that was enough time to say the room was clean and comfortable .A good Breakfast menu , well cooked and served.Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Oak has a very comfortable four poster with ensuite and windows overlooking the front of the Hot...

We stayed on the recommendation of a friend who had previously been. Hotel is brilliantly located in the centre of the High Street. I thought it was a very friendly and slighly old fashioned hotel. We had a lovely room at the top of the hotel overlooking the garden. Bed was comfortable. The breakfast was excellent - large, plenty of choice and tasty. Shower was an attachment on the bath so not great. Decor was also rather old fashioned (but I liked that).
