This is a charming old English hotel in a beautiful village and our visit was helped by the glorious summer weather. The hotel is comfortable and clean but a little tired and some areas could do with a degree of renovation.
Our en-suite room was of decent size and complete with four poster bed. The bathroom had a good sized bath but no shower and that I found personally disappointing but not unacceptably so.
Free Wi-Fi and heated outdoor pool were also available although we did not take advantage of these facilities.
Breakfast was served in the cozy dining room and was both plentiful and very tasty and sufficient to satisfy most appetites.
One down side is the lack of parking. The hotel can accommodate 4/5 cars on site with the overspill using free on street parking adjacent to the hotel. We had no difficulties parking during our stay.
On the whole we enjoyed our stay and we would return. We would also have given the hotel a higher rating too but when one compares the room rate with the quality of accommodation then our rating reflects the experience.

Room Tip: Keep to the first floor if possible

The pictures on the web site looked ok so booked one night with them. On arrival, found that the only parking was out on the busy high street. Our room, was on the side of the property, accessed by some very steep steps, which were partially covered in thick ivy, which made them even more dangerous. The room itself, a twin bedded room, was in need of refurbishment. It looked grubby, with a good deal of cobwebs in corners. The outside of the kettle could have done with a good scrub, and was placed on a tea stained table cloth. The only upside was that the beds were comfortable and the bedding clean, as were the towels. The breakfast service was slow, with staff appearing to double up as receptionists. The breakfast menu was ok, but the cooked breakfast was nearly cold when served. In all honesty, not a place I will be revisting any time soon!

Spent an excellent few nights here when we booked the entire guest house out for a family wedding.
Stunning exterior. Interior is Laura Ashley style shabby chic a little tired perhaps but clean and more than comfortable. What stood out was the service we as a family cannot thank them enough. Truely superb.
Breakfast was freshly cooked and excellent with a very decent variety of options given the size of the hotel.

The hotel's exterior promises much, but delivers little. Very tired interior, worn and dirty carpets greet you, in the bedroom the shower room grubby with a shower that had seen better days but not much bathroom cleaner. Strange smell emanating from the macerator-powered loo, threadbare towels and what appeared as someone's leftover shampoo and shower gel, TV that did not function, and, although there was a notice priding the hotel on its green credentials and advice about limiting heating, the radiator could not be turned off resulting in a very stuffy room. Very good breakfast in a very cold dining room but served with a warm smile. Sweet young girl greeted me on arrival, but clearly didn't have the first idea about how to get the TV to work or how to control the heating. Such a disappointment at the end of a very long and tiring journey. Steyning is beautiful however with great places to eat (Nia and Whites and the wonderful Steyning Tea Rooms, which made up for the poor accommodation) and deserves a better hotel!

Smells of cabbage when you walk in, sort of old peoples home smell.

Stayed in Ash, the largest room. Both wife and I still scrathing from being bitten by bed bugs - even saw a couple of odd crawlies in the bed.

Pillows at least five years old.

Charming little hotel, but you gave to change the carpets and pillows/beds - at £120 a night I don't expect this sort of thing

A fantastic place to stay. Lovely property, very friendly staff, and lots of those little touches that make a place special - fresh milk available, magazines in the room, familiar toiletries provided, and a supply of allsorts to help yourself if necessary - rennie, toothpaste etc.
