“If Carlsberg did hotels......”
Reviewed November 17, 2013

If Carlsberg did hotels, they would probably employ Liz and Keith. As hosts they not only go that extra mile, but mile, after mile, after mile. First time visitors so an excellent surprise, Fairhaven is a step above the rest.

This is an example of how a guest house or hotel should be run. Nothing is too much for the hosts, tea or coffee on arrival, friendly welcoming attitude it all makes you feel special. The rooms are very comfortable, they would put many expensive hotel rooms to shame, and the guests lounge is luxurious. The breakfast is delightful and plentiful with the evening meals being excellent value for money.

Room Tip: If available the rooms at the front of the building have stunning views.

The warmest welcome ever, hot drinks and cakes upon returning 'home' each day, we were given the family room which was soooo spacious. The guest house is decorated and furnished to a very high standard, is spotlessly clean and is as warm as toast!! Beautiful real fire in the lounge, lots of comfortable chairs and sofas....a whole host of reading books, board games, and a very well stocked 'tourist info' stand!! There is also a well stocked fridge in the dining room where guests have free access to milk, yoghurts and fruit 24/7...the trays in the bedrooms are also very well stocked with tea/coffee/chocolate/biscuits etc
The breakfasts are just gorgeous..cereals..fresh fruit salads..muesli...etc .along side of a full English,or whatever is on offer for the daily specials.... ...from eggs Benedict through to grilled nectarines drizzled with honey, topped with granola and served with Greek yoghurt (which I had this morning and it was de-lish)........
Nothing is too much trouble for the genuinely lovely family who run this guest house............we took advantage of the Winter Warmer offer which included a two course evening meal on the first night........another fab meal!!
All around this lovely big house (which has some great history attached to it) you can find many little homely extras, which show such attention to detail, everything is geared towards making visitors feel comfortable, relaxed and part of the 'Fairhaven' family..we will definitely be returning....

Room Tip: You could hear a pin drop through the night here...it is so peaceful and quiet....beautiful views...

My mum is a frequent visitor to Fairhaven and constantly raves how amazing it is...I now know why! We received a very warm welcome the moment we arrived and from that point on I felt right at home. As well as the hospitality from Keith, Liz and Kelly, it was also lovely to chat to the other guests, everyone was so friendly that by the end of my stay I'd totally forgotten we'd only just met!
I could not find any fault with the accommodation and had a good sleep on both nights. The breakfast was fantastic, lots of choice and delicious.
Can't wait to return!

My husband and l and our 11 year old son have just returned from our 4th visit to this wonderful Guest house. This time we took my 86 year old mother, and our hosts bent over backwards to be accommodating and helpful as always. If you haven't been to The Fairhaven Guesthouse yet l would only have 3 words to say to you..'What's stopping you?'
Looking forward to booking up for next year and we only left there today!
Thank you so much Keith, Liz, Kelly, Richard, you are the best!

Room Tip: If you have children book the family room!

From first setting foot into theBnB you get a warm welcome from Kelly who runs the hotel with her husband and parents. Although the weekend we stayed there her mum and dad were on a holiday (her dad's birthday treat). But her mother in law had stepped into the breach to help out.
Once we had got our baggage into the lovely cozy room we were offered tea and coffee in the lounge. When it arrived we hadn't expected it to come with lovely homemade cakes which were absolutely delicious. All made by Kelly!
We went out the first evening for a meal at The Goathland Hotel aka The Ainsfield Arms. Then back to the BnB for a nightcap in the cozy lounge where a log fire was burning.
Then to bed for a lovely comfortable evening's sleep.
Breakfast next day was very good - lots to choose and there is also a daily special.
You have to give your choices the previous evening.
There was also three very large bowls of fruit salad which you could help yourself to plus plain and fruit yogurts.
During our short stay nothing was too much trouble for Kelly.
We had had such a lovely stay we really didn't want to leave.
We are planning to go again but this time for a much longer period.
We really felt that we had arrived as strangers but left as friends.
Would highly recommend this hotel for anyone wanting to visit North Yorkshire. Excellent through and through.

Room Tip: Room 8. Up in the eaves and with a beautiful view over the Yorkshire Moors.
