This garden is very beautiful and peaceful. A short drive from the A1 and easy to find.We have visited here around 4 times a year and never get bored, the gardens are often being refreshed, the trees are stunning and the bird display is awesome. There is now a small animal park too. The cafe sells wholesome food and the play park is suitable for under 10's.
There are trails throughout the holiday season for children at a nominal cost. Rhs visitor can get in free a certain times.

“A Glorious Haven”
Reviewed June 25, 2011

I stumbled across this place on a map, luckily before we set off from Tyneside towards a short stay near Ripon. It seems generally to be under-advertised, which is a pity, since it is well worth a visit. The tea room provides tasty meals amid pleasant scenery.
People with walking difficulties may hire an electric scooter for the sum of £1.00 for 2 hours, but are advised to book it in advance in the busy season.
The birds of prey are kept in the old walled garden and the mammals are nearby. We were delighted to find that the meerkats had babies, which were lovely to watch.
There are many beautiful walks in the estate, affording wonderful opportunities to the keen photographer. There is also a special play area for children, with sturdy wooden items and play houses. I would recommend the Arboretum for a good family day out.

“Tearooms very child unfriendly”
Reviewed September 19, 2010

One member of staff was aggressively rude and nasty to our table of adults and children, throwing down a dustpan and brush when we were halfway through the meal and telling us to tidy up the floor (which we always do when we finish). We complained and pointed out that if you have high chairs you should be expected to welcome children. The reply from owner Sir John Ropner to written complaints was very poor, complaining of children 'rampaging over the flower beds' and that staff must have been provoked 'more than usual'- obviously they find children an absolute trial and therefore I recommend that the tearooms are avoided at all costs.

“one off the many Jewels off Yorkshire to visit”
Reviewed August 8, 2010

Thorp Perrow Arboretum is situated near the A1 turn of for Bedale Yorkshire, I was only there for the day taking images of the birds of pray and the wonderful woody scenery with the water steeps and glinting sunlight sparling of the water has it gently flowed past the many plants like the tall cowslips,, hosters, of many shades, but the water which looked as black as night, but it was the hight off the day, this was a surprise at the beauty off the place, this was in the month of June so everything was at its best flowers just blooming and the helpfulness that I received when I got there, I read that disabled people whom required a wheelchair could hire a electric cart for two hours for the small sum off one pound, to me this was just great, and this was why I went because with the walking I just was not able to see the full glory of the place. you have to order the cart 24 hours or more before you are going, just to make sure there is one available when you arrive, they have three, but was told in the warm and spring and summer months they do get booked fast, the people that run the place are great polite, very helpful, and caring, on top of this they are all volunteer's who do a splendid job and I praise them on behalf off myself. they also tell you the best time,s to see the displays of falcon flights, Its a long walk from the entrance to the birds enclosures but for me it was well worth the trouble, but the many walks that you can do, It makes you just feel like exploring and you come across children's play area,s in a small unclosed area with plenty for them to explore for them selves on the many playing apparatus,( have a small rest as the one hundred acres feels like miles of walking, then no swimming in the lake, with the sign alligators swim here, you cross this by a little, bridge to Kate Island but then you have the wood carvings of animals doted around the woods, hers a bit of history this area is mentioned in the doomsday book so you are walking around history, there is one splendid cafeteria reasonable prices, there that serves all home made goody cakes, and they are well like everything about this place defiantly got the WOW factor and would recommend a day visit, or call as a place to visit, or when on a touring holiday,
