Comfortable and spacious home with nice big garden for dogs. Welcome text from the owner to check everything was ok. Cottage contained everything we might have needed and very pleased with our choice. Thanks also for the apples !!
Lovely, spacious cottage a few minutes walk from Bedale, but very quiet and peaceful. Lovely front and back garden. The back garden has a courtyard patio area and then a huge lawned area, with garden furniture in both sections. There was plenty of room for Maisie, our dog to charge about. The garden is enclosed, although Maisie had a good go at trying to get through the hedge (which is at least 3ft wide!). The house, on arrival, was very clean and the fresh flowers were a nice touch (as was the text from the owner Terry checking that we'd arrived and that everything was ok). The rooms are a good size, especially the twin bedroom. The cottage was lovely and warm, central heating worked really well, plenty of hot water, really good shower and the double bed (and pillows) were so comfy! (like sleeping on a cloud!). The kitchen was well equiped with plenty of storage space. There was plenty of uptodate tourist leaflets/information ,as well as games/jigsaws etc incase the weather was bad.
Bedale itself is lovely, the people are so friendly! It's also a really good location to be based as there is plenty of walking country but also lots of interesting towns/villages nearby if walking isn't your thing. Finally, would recommend The Four Teas (lovely soup and cake to die for!) and The Old Black Swan, both in Bedale, both places gave us a warm welcome, fed us well and made a fuss of Maisie (and as any dog owner knows that's the most important thing!)
We stayed at Laburnum cottage over the bank holiday weekend with 2 young children & the dog & had a lovely relaxed break in a beautiful cottage with a huge garden ideal for the kids & dog front & back :)
The garden was exceptional kids played outside with the dog really secure & beautiful. The garden at the back leads to a lovely walk along the beck very scenic takes you on a circular walk through an ancient church over to the park & back through the town which has 3 supermarkets various restaurants & takeaways plenty of choice.
We used the lovely town of Bedale as a base for Forbidden Corner 30 mins away & a visit to Harrogate.
Terry & Sarah were great really helpful & pleasure to meet : )
So much to see & do !
Laburnum cottage is a great base to take the family & dog.
Very easy to book and brilliant communication from the owner, complete with mobile number for any difficulties.Really appreciated the communication to see if we had arrived and everything was ok.
Parking is on the road side but we had no problems and there was a space on our return each day. Never heard the neighbours at all.
The cottage has a garden to the front and the back garden must be one of the longest in any accommodation we have stayed in. The back garden is split in two with a paved area directly outside the back door, with a gate leading to the lawned area with fruit trees and further seating.
Inside the living area is at the front complete with comfy settees and decent size TV. Internet connection is good. There is an open fire but we did not use it. The kitchen and dining area is a decent size and has all the usual expected requirements. We ate in a couple of nights and did not find anything missing to cook with. Stable door leads to back garden.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms and bathroom. Double bed very comfy.
The whole property was very clean and nicely furnished.
The shops are very handy-a two minute walk- we found the butchers Cockburns to be very good and filled the cool box to take home. The Italian at the far end of Bedale is excellent and booking is recommended. The Old Black Swan is good for "pub grub" with large helpings of good tasty food.
Bettys Tea room at Northallerton and is well worth a visit.
All in we will definitely return to Laburnum Cottage -
Very pleasant cottage, ideally located for exploring North Yorkshire. Easy walking distance to cafes and pubs/restaurants in Bedale.
