“Excellent value”
Reviewed May 1, 2013 via mobile

We had a late lunch here by chance when passing through and were very pleasantly surprised. We both had a cheese, ham and red onion toastie which was served with a delicious selection of salads. The toastie itself was made with top quality cheese and ham and was equally good. The cost was £5.95 which was amazing value for the quality and quantity of food. The cafe itself is bright, clean and comfortable, and looks out onto Bedale's main street. Parking was no problem.

“Country Kitchen Ambience”
Reviewed March 1, 2013

Called in for a snack lunch on the way west up Wensleydale, The cafe was busy, always a good sign. The service was fine giving us sufficient time to view the menu and the specials board. The prices were a bit more than we had anticipated, and we trusted that the quality would justify the charges. On balance it did, helped by the imaginative sandwich fillings, interesting side salad, , delightful bread and good presentation.

The decor was interesting, very typical of a Yorkshire kitchen, the walls adorned with local crafts for sale, mainly cushions and notice boards, and attractive in a kitschy sort of way.

“Disapointed in The Pantry”
Reviewed February 5, 2013

I came in on a Tuesday morning and have been in previously on a Saturday. I arrived and was instantly bombarded by the waitress asking for my order, I had barely sat down before she was over. We said that we weren't ready and then ended up waiting a long time for her to come back, we wished we'd said when she originally came. We could hear everything that was said inside the kitchen from where we were sat so we knew that she wasn't doing another order. Once our food arrived eventually we found the side salad a little disappointing, not at all what we expected, there was a carrot with raisin salad which was obviously from the day before from the colour of it. We got two cups of tea, which cost us £4.60!! I could have bought 100 teabags for less than that! We then ordered some cake for our pudding to see whether we could lighten our moods but the cake was dry and not what we expected from something that was £2.50 a slice. The bill was shocking at the end for just two of us but we paid it and left. We will never be coming back here.

“Good to Bad...”
Reviewed February 5, 2013

I used to visit this tearoom often with my friends, we were always welcomed by the young girls who were the waitresses and they were always polite and would do anything they could to assist you. The atmosphere was always a welcoming one. HOWEVER I went for lunch last week and instead of being welcomed, an older woman just said 'sit anywhere'; she stank of smoke and was very blunt. The food had also gone downhill, portions were smaller yet dramatically more expensive. Everything seems to have gone downhill. Would NOT recommend.

“Big disapointment, felt ignored and overpriced!”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

The Pantry is a lovely beautifully country house style cafe, unfortunatelly this is as good as it gets! we went today for a nice lunch to celebrate and we were very disapointed! When we went inn we sat down and a waitress came over she didnt tell us about specials but did make sure she offered sugestions for my childs requests! ending in overpriced cake and carton of shop bought juice. We both chose a full English breakfast which consisted of 2 sausages (poor quality and they were cold!), 2 rashers of bacon, a small pile of undercooked unmixed scrambled egg?, 2 pieces of toast, a handfull of button mushrooms and a tiny uncoked! tomato!? no beans, no black pudding and for £8.95, we also ordered a cup of tea which cost us £2.30 each and we decided to have a piece of cake to finish as we werent full by our lunch, cake was ok but very basic and didnt seem very fresh. The waiter did ask wether our lunch was ok and and i chose to say it wasent too bad, she seemed suprised by my review and walked off. I would not recomend anyone to visit after our experience unless you enjoy poor service and overpriced drinks and food, but probably ok for a quick coffe and catch up with a friend.
