“Lovely cosy pub with good food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2013

We had a birthday celebration here and one of our party stayed the night. they said that the room was small but very clean and had everything you would need for an overnight stay. the rooms in the inn were noisy until the pub closed but then it went quiet. The cottage rooms would be quieter.
Our celebratory Sunday lunch was really good. We had a great choice of dishes and when our vegetarian guest did not fancy the menu, the chef specially prepared a delicious alternative. The staff were friendly and attentive and nice to the two children.
We enjoyed the food so much that we went there for an evening meal on Tuesday. The same high standard of food and service prevailed.

Room Tip: The rooms in the inn are noisy until the pub closes at 11pm. The cottage rooms are less noisy

We returned to the Old Hall in Aprill 2013 having first visited in Sept 2012 and on that occasion enjoyed a lovely meal. However on this occasion we were left utterly disappointed by our experience. We arrived around 7pm on a Sunday evening and as the Sunday Roast was still available we opted for that (which we had last time). We ordered this at the bar and within 2 minutes (literally) of us sitting at our table the food arrived (not usually a good sign!). The main problem was that it was only luke warm which meant that by the time we were half way through the meal most if it was stone cold, also in our opinion the veg was under cooked . When the waitress came to take our plates aways, I commented on the fact that the food had not been warm enough - Her only response was "Oh, would you like a dessert?" No apology or any other feedback - which is why I am posting this here so that hopefully my reveiw will get to the people who should read it and take action.

This was an impromptu stay for two nights after we had booked a walking weekend in a B&B two miles down the road. Due to us picking the worst weather this century I think and the road being blocked by a small snow drift we tried to find a room in the Old Hall Inn which was the first place we came to.

We had a warm welcome and got room 5 in the small outside annex. Lovely room with very tasteful bed linen and excellent clean decor. Small bathroom though and which seemed to resemble a small fridge. The second night we were moved to room 4 which was fantastic. This was above the pub and was bigger than the other room and had a bigger bathroom. Again spotless and quiet.

The pub/inn itself is lovely. It is quite big and does the most fantastic food which is amazingly presented. Just to give an example, the breakfast (which is included in the price) was served on a square plate with the bean in a miniature saucepan. The chips the night before were in a miniature fryer....really quite cute if I say so myself.

Couldn't fault the reception and staff, really helpful bearing in mind we turned up out the blue with no booking. Would recommend totally - just bear in mind the bathrooms are a touch chilly but considering the outside environment was like the arctic and there were polar bears wearing coats, i couldn't moan too much !!

Room Tip: Try and get one in the pub - especially if its cold.

Wow, what can I say, we had 3 nights here from 18th March, we received a very a warm welcome, fantastic food in very comfortable suroundings, and a chance to visit family, "perfick". if anyone is looking for a Yorkshire Dales retreat this is the place to stay.

I will be back.

We were staying at the nearby Caravan Club site and visited the Old Hall Inn for a couple of meals.
The ambience was excellent! A typical country pub, with an open log fire that was very welcome as the weather was very cold. The iron cooking range makes an attractive feature in the bar area.
There did not appear to be any printed menus, but there were plenty of chalk boards detailing the food on offer.
We ate there on a couple of occasions, once at lunch and once for an evening meal. On both occasions the food was substantial and excellent!. I recommend the roast suckling pig, black pudding with apple sauce, all on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes. This was washed down with a couple of pints of Timothy Taylor's 'Landlord' ale.
We will definitely eat here again when back in the area.

Not a planned trip, but we will certainly return.
A very warm welcome, even though we arrived at 6pm the bar was busy with several people eating.
There was a good selection of Fish and Meat dishes, our food was well presented.

The quality of the food was excellent , and the prices were reasonable.
The food is certainly not Pub food.

Well worth a visit.
