“lovely stay.”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

Stayed here for one night as a couple.
We stopped at the front and nipped out to ask where to go, reception/check in desk was hard to find as the pub was very busy being the same day as the fell race etc. waited at the bar to ask where to go.
we were given directions to the manor house by reception but still got a bit lost and had to go back.
Car park had plenty of space. The staff were friendly and helpful despite being run off their feet.
our room was 7 quite quirky small / cosy and clean, modern shower complimentary molton brown toiletries, hairdryer and a hospitality tray with mineral water. Nice view towards the river.
we pre booked a table in the bar, food very good. nice atmosphere - also seemed child friendly. We would have liked after our meal to sit in the main bar for a drink but it seemed more of a dining room than an Inn with a lot of folk stood around the bar. we located the residents lounge which was cosy.
although the place seems well used in places I thought it Added to its charm..Breakfast was faultless with a good menu choice and excellent service.
Beautiful surrounding area ideal for all manner of outdoor persuits, lovely walk along the riverside.
Already booked to go back and would def recommend to anyone looking for a homely retreat with good food and in a beautiful area.

Came here for a one night stay for our anniversary. We were looking for a break away from the kids and so just wanted to relax in peaceful surroundings.

We definitely came to the right place. We were dealt with quicky, and efficiently on our arrival to book into our room. The confirmation e-mail we got made it very clear that we should leave bags in the car until we had checked in which we did. The receptionist offered to get someone to carry our bags for us which was lovely but we were able to manage.

The room was gorgeous. Comfy bed, plenty of refreshments available including a cafetiere for proper coffee which I've never seen in a b&b before. Lovely clean bathroom with plenty of soap/shampoo etc. There was even a teddy bear on the bed!

We ate at the pizza place as we didn't feel like a full meal although the menu looked lovely. The pizza was freshly made and delicious and all the service we received was friendly and quick.

We then went into the resident's lounge and had a few drinks which was lovely as they had a real fire so it was cosy and just what we had wanted.

The next morning breakfast was fantastic, loads of choice - quite unusual options too. The food was really good quality and tasty.

We got this through an internet deal for £40 for the night. What a bargain! But we would gladly have paid more as it's a lovely location and a really pleasant place to have a break. Would recommend to anyone.

Thankfully we booked this 2 night stay using a voucher promotion and did not pay the price quoted n the website. This review would've been much more negative if we had. You need to check in at the Red Lion Hotel reception desk and then carry the luggage back from there about 100 yards to go into the Manor House. I carried my own bag and the young man on duty allowed my wife to carry her bag and only offered to take it once we got to the foot of the staircase to walk 2 flights up to our room. The attic room was cramped and the decor looked tired. The outside window frame of the small window in the bedroom was completely rotten. The hangers in the old fashioned wardrobe had to be slanted at an angle before the wardrobe door would actually close. The king size bed, although very comfortable, made opening the wardrobe door difficult so we just left our clothes in our cases.

The bathroom door doesn't close properly so all sounds are very audible !!. The bathroom decor was very patchy and the paint flaking off the radiator but it was well supplied with Molton Brown products.

We had been advised to reserve a table for dinner when we booked our stay " as the restaurant often gets full." When we went down for dinner, the restuarant was empty and we were directed to the snug outside the bar beside another 2 couples. We felt the menu was over priced for food but wine prices were quite reasonable. We both ordered fish and chips which, when it arrived, was very greasy and was only a small portion (about one third of a haddock). We both agreed it was the worst and most expensive fish and chips we'd had.

On a positive note, the breakfast was good and the staff were attentive and pleasant. Although in a lovely location beside the River Wharfe, I would stay elsewhere if going back to that part of the Dales.

We arrived just after 3pm and the room wasn't ready even though we were told we could book in for 3pm.The chamber maids were still cleaning the bedroom and there were towels all over the main hall way which was extremely shabby and unwelcoming. The room was an attic bedroom and extremely small! The main light wasn't working and there was a lampshade missing from one of the bedside lights. The bed linen was very tired and creased and the window was wedged open with a tin of polish! Both my husband and I likened it felt like a prison cell! We were also told that we wouldn't be in the main Red Lion Hotel for breakfast but would have breakfast in what looked like a terrapin hut in the back car park.
The staff in charge were very unhelpful, couldn't or wouldn't change our rooms gave us no discount and when we told them we and our friends, who had also the same experience, were leaving to find somewhere else, they refused to give us our deposit back! We have had no apology or contact from them! Don't stay in the Manor House!

Room Tip: Check when you book how big the room is and which floor it is on! They won't tell you! Ask where...

This was our first visit to this hotel, which is linked to the Red Lion next door, and were very pleasantly surprised. From the beautiful setting of Barnsall, the walking in the surrounding area, the Dales Way and of course the Restaurant

All these together add up to a most comfortable stay.

The restaurant in the Red Lion was superb, service was excellent and wines of a good standing and price.

The hotel was most comfortable and staff were efficient and friendly.
