We stayed here because we could not get into the Devonshire Arms, The Devonshire Fell is the sister hotel to the Devonshire Arms and is around 4 miles down the road. We travel with our little dog, and both places are dog friendly. It is as rural as you can get, and we were welcomed by a charming Manager who was very helpful. The food is very good especially the breakfast, but would have been happier if we could have had an extra half hour in bed because breakfast finished at 9.30. The dining room is quite chic and similar in style to the Tresanton in Cornwall. I think that the conservatory/bar needs a little work, it is a bit uncool and the music needs a little more thought as we felt as though we had to whisper all the time and in such a casual area, the atmosphere should have been relaxing and buzzy and the music a bit more upbeat. Our room was newly decorated and was a very nice surprise, exceptionally clean and the bed and bedding were very comfortable. Some of the hotels who accept dogs expect you to sleep in a kennel - not so here, so that was a delight. If you are a hiker this is paradise, we are not, we were in the area to enjoy driving around Yorkshire but still enjoyed our stay. Only one criticism, there was nowhere to put dog waste and as a responsible dog owner this was frustrating. Unfortunately, some owners did go to the trouble of cleaning up, but left their little bags scattered around the car park which isn't nice. That said, a lovely few days away and would return.

We had our wedding day at the fell and we cannot recommend the fell enough. From day 1 we was looked after and on the day the service from all staff was outstanding and very professional. Nothing was too much and as we had the run of the hotel we was able to decorate the hotel to our needs. The wedding service was in their main room which sets a lovely scence down into the village of Burnsall. The rooms are great and bright and the whole hotel felt cosy.
The food was brilliant and plenty of it and all our guests commented on it all. We couldn't have wished for a better day and everyone went away happy and full of great memories.

Thank you all at the fell.

We would highly recommend the fell for weddings or other functions.

We booked a 2 night break over the New Year with the intention of relaxing in a small & peaceful country hotel with cracking logs fires, beautiful Yorkshire countryside and excellent food; we weren't disappointed.
Our package included 2 breakfasts & dinners plus afternoon tea on New Years eve, meals were served in an elegant dining room with white table cloths, linen napkins and an impressive selection of crockery, cutlery & glassware, this set the scene perfectly for the high standard of cuisine we experienced. The staff were attentive & efficient in a friendly and relaxed manner.
Our room was tastefully decorated & furnished with a huge, comfortable bed and double aspect windows to appreciate the beautiful views across the river and down to the village and pretty bridge. The bathroom was well appointed & spacious with an excellent shower and small selection of toiletries. No bath-robes, slippers or shower cap and no shaving/magnifying mirror which I really missed when it came to doing my make-up.
It hadn't occurred to us that dogs would be welcome at the hotel and so we were surprised to find several guests bringing dogs into the dining room at meal times. The dogs were extremely well behaved however, as we are not dog lovers we found it off-putting knowing that they were in dining areas and bedrooms. We may not have booked the hotel had we been aware of this in advance.
The hotel web-site depicts a chic boutique hotel with fine-dining and as our package included New Year celebrations we hadn't considered there may be guests with children (as well as dogs). There were actually a number of families with children staying although again they were all well behaved and enjoyed their late nights seeing in the New Year.
The conservatory and bar areas offer comfortable seating areas although at times there was more demand for comfy chairs than supply; and while on the subject of chairs we both had to sweep crumbs and bits off our chairs before we sat down at every meal. Having made an effort to dress for dinner the last thing you want is to be covered in the remnants of the previous diners meal, hence the lower rating for cleanliness.

We stayed here with my sister and brother in law. On arrival we were met with a nice welcome. The room we had was very clean and couldnt be faulted. The staff were very helpful and the location of the place for surrounding views was lovely. The food in the restaurant was good and none of us had any complaints with evening meal or breakfast. They give good offers but as others have commented these seem to change seemingly leaving the staff in a situation where they say your deal gives you an all inclusive sweet and then when the bill comes that is not the situation. The service charge is another downside, i have never been given to the fact of a charge taken out when the service may not be good enough. On this occasion the service was good and a tip would have been given anyway. Another tip would be to ditch the 90s thing of serving steak on a wood platter which doesnt look good anyway and seems unhygenic. We did enjoy our stay but little things need addressing. I would stay again but next time i would be aware of the little things which has made me just downgrade my view of the place.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at the Devonshire Fell, and I would like to apologise for both the confusion you encountered with your rate, the inclusion of the service charge for your meal as well as your comments regarding the steak board.
I have brought all matters to the attention of the Management and the staff to ensure they are rectified.

We stayed over as part of a package on a Sunday evening and enjoyed dinner, bed & breakfast. The room was lovely, the staff very helpful, and the food was very nice indeed. We would definitely return but probably only under a similar deal - the full prices dont offer fantastic value.

We booked a one night stay at a cost of £99 for two persons, dinner, bed & breakfast. When the confirmation arrived, we were a bit surprised to see there would be a "discretionary" service charge of 12.5% on food and drink which is a bit steep by anyone's standards. The full dinner was not included, only a £20 per person discount. So maybe not quite the bargain originally envisaged! However, we had a good sized room overlooking the rear of the hotel with not quite the stunning views at the front, but very pleasant nevertheless. The bedding was excellent quality and the bathroom spotlessly clean. We enjoyed a meal of duck for my husband and steak for me, which were both good. The chips were first class! However, we were a bit disconcerted when the waitress brought the bottle of wine we had ordered (from an excellent list, I might add) but this was already uncorked!! How do we know that the wine in the bottle is that described on the label if we don't see the sealed bottle presented? Luckily this was not the case, but just something that should be noted. We did notice several complaints in the dining room from other guests - wine not sufficiently chilled and a cod dish not cooked properly which does send out warning bells. However, the staff were friendly and helpful (probably bearing in mind the 12.5% service charge) but in need of some additional training. Overall we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

There is no doubt that the setting is the key attraction at this hotel
Unfortunately in a number of respects it otherwise misses the mark. Having received an e-mail from the Devonshire Group in August offering a reduced rate including two courses from the taster menu the offer seemed to good to miss. Whilst taking a pre-dinner drink ( Now in November) we were told that they had changed the offer and that we could eat off the main menu and we would receive a discount of £20 per person. There was no explanation as to why we had not been notified in the intervening 3 months as to a change in the arrangement. We had not either been notified that in addition a 12.5% charge would be added to the bill for refreshments taken. I have to say that there was no hesitation in reducing the final bill to the price of the original offer when complaining at the time of payment.
As for the eating experience our two starters and main courses were of good quality but were cold appearing to have been plated up sometime before serving. As a former food inspector I do not think it appropriate to serve food particularly meat with sauce/gravy on a wooden board. However attractive it may look there are inherent health risks.
. I have to say that my experiences at other Devonshire group hotels has left me with high expectations and unfortunately this one hotel falls below the otherwise high standards found.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front offer the riverside views.
