We stayed in the Red Lion and had a great time. The room - Number 1, in a cottage next door, was really quaint. Fresh coffee, cafetiere, bath, powerful shower.... Even the possibility of a real fire, although we didn't put this to the test. Dinner was preceded by drinks in a very pleasant residents lounge, with amazing views to the fells. Choice of 3 good draft beers, served by knowledgeable staff. Food was excellent, although why do the plates have to be so hot?
The position of the Red Lion allows fantastic walks from the door, in any direction. We need to return to discover them all.

We had received an overnight stay at the Red Lion from our brother and sister via Groupon.
On arrival we were shown to our room (room 17); very nicely appointed, lovely bathroom with a few nice personal touches. Not a great view from the room, but we could just about see the river.

Our room felt rather hot throughout our stay and even once we had turned the radiators down and opened the windows etc… the room was still way too hot. I think that we must have been over the boiler room or something?

We dined in the restaurant for our evening stay. A very nice meal with lovely food all well-presented and something a little bit different. Some people may find the restaurant a little limited on choice with only 6 starters and 6 main courses on offer that night.

The bar is pleasant and well-stocked with a few locals drinking in there too.

There is a residents lounge with games, books, magazine and a log fire for your use.
In the morning we descended for breakfast and sadly this is what let our stay down.

The cereals and juices table was practically blocking the entry doorway and everyone (staff included) spent most of the morning saying “excuse me” and “sorry” and bumping into each other. Really only one person could get their cereal, fruit, yoghurt and juice without blocking the path of everyone else.

We ordered poached eggs with toast and a bagel, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. The poached eggs arrived without their toast, and we had to ask for the toast three times to be delivered.

The scrambled eggs were not scrambled, being rather poorly beaten with lots of white and were very runny. I had to send these back and on their return they were still white and yellow rather than scrambled. The bagel was not replaced and was now rock hard as it had been sat on a hot plate for five minutes. The smoked salmon was great, but sadly was let down by everything else.

Whilst the waitress did ask “was everything alright” and we explained and got a “sorry” – we feel that they could have done so much better based on the level of service and quality of food that we had received the previous night in the restaurant.

We went to the Red Lion after a recommendation from a friend and we were not disappointed. After a warm welcome we asked where we could have lunch and we were shown to the residents lounge where we sank into squashy arm chairs in front of an open fire. Lunch was lovely. We were then shown to our GORGEOUS room. The MOST comfortable bed I have ever slept in. An open fire. A beautiful spacious room with amazing views. ( we overlooked the bridge) And a huge bathroom with double sinks massive shower and a roll top bath.. We dined in the restaurant and the food was really good. The staff were friendly and on the ball. Breakfast was excellent and we were reluctant to leave. Will definitely re book. Yes it's a bit pricey but for a treat you can't beat it. We stayed in the main part of the hotel. We didn't see inside the manor house so I can't comment about it but we had a walk up to it and it looked ok. The location is beautiful.

Great attention to detail in this gem of a hotel in a great location. The whole manner in which the staff, and owners, conducted themselves underlined the quality of everything from the bar & the wine list to the bar meals and the exquisite restaurant. All were welcoming without being over the top and nothing was too much trouble. WE will definitely come again.

A lovely stay with lovely people looking after us. This pub has it all - stunning location (if there's a better one in The Dales...) great food and lovely accommodation. Dinner was delicious and the breakfast was as good as I've had anywhere. Attentive , down to earth staff (a request for an optical screwdriver sent a kind member of staff off in search of one!) made the visit homely and welcoming. We want to go back! Sample the real ales after a walk along the river - outstanding

Room Tip: some rooms in The Manor House are a wee bit small - but no complaints as value for money was top not...

We are drawn back to this hotel over and over; we just love it. It' s one of our favourites.
The position, just next to the river, with spectacular views, is perfect. It's also perfect for visiting the Yorkshire Dales.
The rooms are lovely, the food excellent and the staff very helpful and friendly. We will be back!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the river if possible.

After living in the Dales for ten years and having left for twelve months, we decided a visit was long overdue. We booked with a Livingsocial voucher into an outside room(number 3) because we had a three month old puppy. We had a fantastic stay, the room was spacious, well equipped and very cosy. The breakfast was fabulous, the staff very polite and overall a very memorable trip, just wish we had another trip booked !

Room Tip: Views from the front of the pub will stay with you forever. If you only stay in one place in the Dal...
