We have stayed twice for Christmas - December 2014 and 2016. It is a wonderful place to stay for Christmas. The house all that you need and the owners are happy to add anything you require within reason. The kitchen is well equipped and there are plenty of crockery, utensils etc. It is in close distance from Castle Howard, York, Melton, York Mores etc. We had a fabulous time. The Christmas tree was supplied decorated but we did add more to it, including white lights. We live in Australia and would love to come every year, however, that is not possible. Our Christmas there have been wonderful. Looking forward to when we can go again.
Spa cottage sits in the heart of Hovingham, near the ford and with the gorgeous Hovingham bakery dangerously close if you are watching your waist. It is picture perfect with hollyhocks out front and a gorgeously proportioned secluded rear garden with patio for dining too. Inside the kitchen is welcoming. I now see why people fall in love with Aga stoves. There is a regular cooker too if you are wary of the beast. A large kitchen table for all meals and chats or the formal dining room (not the type for that but perfect for some). A lovely square sitting room with comfy sofas and three very nice bedrooms. The master bedroom has en suite (it could do with a better set of drawers in the room- but I'm quibbling). The main bathroom is next to the two twin rooms, which are lovely. Although there are farming vehicles going about their work it is still very quiet, so expect a good night's sleep. The walks from the village are gorgeous and just check out an OS map and enjoy anything from 1 mile upwards. Enter the cottage from the back and you can take off your walking boots and offload anything into the utility room with a washer and dryer. There's another sink, ironing board etc too. There's a small downstairs loo there as well. It really did tick all the boxes for a perfect place to stay. And as for Hovingham village itself, well that needs a separate review.
