Stayed here with a large group of friends. Had a great time and nothing was too much trouble for the friendly smiling staff. Rooms quiet and comfortable and food good value. A lovely village to stay in for walking and visiting local attractions. Make sure you do the local walks and visit the little Tea shop as well as further afield.

Dear matoras4

Thank you for your review. It was a pleasure to welcome you all to the hotel, Looking after a group of nearly 30 ladies was always going to be a challenge, so I am glad we passed the test!
You are right about the walking on our doorstep, we really do live in a beautiful part of the country with routes to suite all stamina's, we are really well placed as a base for discovering the Howardian Hills and the North Yorkshire Moors.

I look forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back to Hovingham.

We stayed here for two nights - 19th & 20th August 2013 to celebrate my birthday.
Lovely location and we received a lovely welcome. My husband had already advised the hotel that we were celebrating a special birthday and we received a free upgrade and were given a lovely room with a four poster bed.
Very nice and clean and nothing too much trouble for the staff. Food was exceptional and reasonably priced too.
Lovely little village to explore and within easy reach of lovely local walks.
Great place to stay, very homely and inviting.

Room Tip: The four poster made really made the stay more special!

Thank you for your kind words and for deciding to celebrate your anniversary with us.
Your review will hopefully give potential guests a flavour of what they might experience if they choose to visit, though I cannot guarantee them the Four Poster!

I look forward to welcoming you back to Hovingham.

We have never been to North Yorkshire and as I wanted to visit York and Castle Howard (where Brideshead was filmed) it was a perfect location. The staff were exceptional. So friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

The cosy bar and the small areas for relaxing with real fires glowing were perfect. We enjoyed tea and fresh home-made scones on our arrival. Dinner was excellent and no problems with accommodating my partner's food requests. Great to have a choice of either the more formal restaurant or the informal area next to the bar. Breakfast had lots to offer and was delicious.

Our room was small but perfectly formed with everything we needed. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel if staying in this beautiful area.

Dear golfnut83

Delighted you enjoyed your stay, you are right with Castle Howard on our door step it would be rude not to stay! For many of our guests of a certain age the house will for ever be 'Brideshead' but perhaps a new following will emerge following the filming of 'Death at Pemberley' during the summer. The sequel to Pride and Prejudice is due to be broadcast by the BBC this Christmas.

Thank to for taking the time, we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

We arrived late on the Friday evening and the kindly hostess found it no trouble to fit us in for a sumptuous meal. After that we had a quick walk around the village. It was a chilly night and the feel of the place was actually as if Christmas had arrived early! In the morning light the village is a real treat to behold. What impressed us most was walking down the long staircase and seeing a gentleman waiting at the bottom. He welcomed us commenting on the good weather and the pleasure of our company. We took this to be the owner. It was a nice friendly touch in an age when the love of many has unfortunately grown cold. The food was excellent and the manner in which it was presented and served was as if we were for that short time members of the Family.
I have no reservations of recommending this Hotel to any group who want a quiet stay within easy reach of many interesting destinations.

Room Tip: We asked for a room away from the road, but it is such a restful place anywhere in the hotel would b...

Dear IanT

Thank you for posting your review.
Our guests are important to us, and making them feel at home is our top priority If we achieved that then we did our job! The hotel has a wonderful homely atmosphere and if you felt like part of the family all to the good.

The Kitchen team put a lot of effort into planning menus and executing the dishes so thank you for highlighting the fact, unfortunately there are still some people who are reticent about eating in hotel dining rooms.

Thank you for your kind words.

We stayed last Saturday and were a little apprehensive as there was a wedding on and a marquee in the garden, However, we were made very welcome (we have visited before) and although the hotel was busy, there was no compromise on service and we were treated like royalty. The hotel itself is kept spotlessly clean and has a cosy, comforting vibe to it. At breakfast next morning (which was superb by the way) the manager himself made a point of asking us if we had slept well and asked if we had been disturbed by the festivities which had been taking place. A wonderful place to stay in a picture-postcard village close to a number of interesting places to visit.

Room Tip: A visit in Winter means that you have the added cosiness of roaring fires. Also have their afternoon...

Dear Jgleave

Thank you for your feedback, Wedding parties and leisure guests do not make easy bed fellows so we try to avoid it if we can! The wedding party on the weekend of your visit were not to big a party and were in the marquee,. even so I just wanted to check that your stay with us had not been interfered with, your positive response was reassuring.
I have passed on your comments to the team so thank you on their behalf.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Hovingham

Dear pw

It was a pleasure to have you with us and I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay. You are right to say that dogs are welcome, and the local countryside offers many interesting walks for them and their owners to enjoy.
Whilst we do not have the financial clout of the modern chain hotels we are fiercely independent three star hotel determined to punch above our weight in terms of food and service.
I look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel soon.
Thank you again for taking the time.

The staff definately make this little hotel a pleasure to stay in. The food is excellent the service is great and everyone is smiling and polite. Nothing is too much trouble. We spent two nights at the hotel while we were visiting York I would definately stay again and would recommend anyone travelling in the area to do the same. The only negative that I have is that our shower was on the small side and there was insufficient storage space in the bathroom. A big thumbs up overall

Dear mccann67

Thank you for your positive feedback. We will look at your comments re the shower. The hotel was built in a time of shared bathrooms and showers were only for the horses, it has come a long way and managed to maintain its character but in some rooms bathroom space I am afraid is tight.

We all look forward to the opportunity to welcome you back soon.
