This is the best B&B we've stayed in. Lovely setting despite being close to the road and very quiet. The guest rooms are in the original Mill House, a typical solid farm house of the area. Breakfast was excellent and served in the Mill where there is a 'window' in the floor through which you can watch the water rushing through the mill race. We had a ground floor room with comfortable double bed and room for a Z bed for our 9 year old. We were welcomed warmly and offered tea whilst being told about how everything worked. There is a cosy sitting room with comfortable sofas to curl up on whilst one plans the next expediton around the area. From the Cornmill it is a 10 minute walk into the centre of Kirkbymoorside where there are various pubs and restaurants. On Wednesday there is a thriving local market in the main street, well worth a visit.
The website is well designed and works! I particularly liked the details given on each room so that one could see what to expect.

The owners, Karen & Chris, were very welcoming & couldn't be more helpful. The Cornmill is a charming property (wish it were mine!). The well cooked breakfast was served in a delightful dining room. Karen & Chris have put their own stamp on this property retaining its period character . We'd certainly make a return trip.

This beautiful converted Corn Mill is in a lovely spot in the North Yorkshire Moors handy for the coast and inland scenery. It is very well run by Karen & Chris who are lovely people and nothing is too much trouble for them. The breakfast is magnificent and cooked to order (they use local produce). We would stay here again because there is still alot of this lovely county to explore.

The Cornmill is a pleasant B&B in a good location for seeing the Yorkshire Moors and surrounding area. With nice walks close by. Good selection of pubs and eating houses in Kirkbymoorside and surrounding area. Whitby and the coast about 40 mins drive.

The property itself has been very tastefully renovated and important items like showers drapes furniture etc are of a high quality. The room we were in number 2 was cosy and warm after returning from a chilly trip out. Breakfasts are very good.

The only criticism I have would be the mattress on our bed was not very good quality, felt a bit like sleeping on a pile of springs " needs replacing for better quality" to match the bedding.

We would recommend a stay here.

What a relaxing time we had. It was so quiet. The Cornmill is a home I can only dream of having but if I could have one like it, it would be like this. The bedrooms were spacious, not too ostentatious but comfortable. Ours was the four poster. Karen and Chris had thought of nearly everything you may need however, if I could have had just five things to make the break just perfect it would have been:
(A) (i) a small fridge in the room to chill the wine, (ii) keep the chocolates from melting and keep those (iii) strawberries fresh and
(B) a more comfortable chair in front of the dressing table for putting on make-up plus (C) a light on the dressing table and
(D) a mirror that didn't swing away from you everytime you looked into it. Maybe that was meant to be!!! Hell, I did look dreadful on Saturday morning with the hangover from hell. Oh and (E) it would have been nice if the fire in the guests' living room could have been lit each night.
However, aside from that, our hosts kept our wine chilled for when we did need it. Their breakfast is a real treat though. For those of you of Catholic faith, you would find the local Abbey (Ampleforth) a delightful place to take Communion on Sunday. What a treat that place is. The poshest Monks in the UK. It was like being in heaven there. And, with the tour provided by Karen (since she joined us at the service) we knew everything about each of the Brothers at the Abbey.
I digress.. there were so many restaurants to eat at and not that far to travel too in the area. We would definitely return to this delightful part of North Yorkshire. We felt like we were at home. Thanks for such a lovely stay. Hope to see you again soon.

We have just returned from a two-day stay at the Cornmill, and find it difficult to understand how anyone could make any negative comments about the place. We were greeted very warmly, shown to our rooms and offered tea in the lounge. We had the room with the four-poster: it was very spacious and comfortable and lacked nothing. I am a very bad sleeper, but both my husband and myself found the bed very comfortable indeed. The en-suite bath/shower room was well fitted out with plenty of room. The breakfast was delicious, cooked by Karen and cheerfully served by Chris. We have stayed at dozens of B and Bs, mostly in Scotland, and consider ourselves quite expert at tracking down good ones! Generally speaking we find that B and Bs in England are not quite so good - we have had one or two disappointments (apologies to all the other good ones!), but we actually said to Karen that they had restored our faith in English B and Bs! Karen and Chris couldn't have been better hosts, and we thoroughly enjoyed being able to stay in their most interesting and beautifully restored home.

We were met with what can only be described as a luke warm welcome. Rushed into our room, but offered tea.
This was served in the lounge with two of the smallest pieces of cake we have ever seen. There were 2 plates, but we left the cake on one, as we thought, if separated, we may lose them.

We had booked the ground floor room with king size bed (Room 2). This in itself was fine, but the bathroom was a total disgrace. I doubt it had been upgraded in many years and the silicone round the bath was either missing or black/brown with mould. The grout round the tiles was either missing or grey/black in colour. The lady of the house stated that grout had been replaced recently, if it was I wonder where the plumber purchased black grout ? The shower head was old and rusty and the towel rail was tarnished. It was worse than a cheap B&B on Blackpool. The owners claimed that the could not see any problem, but either their eyes were closed or their fingers were crossed.
We were eventually offered a 'discount', which amounted to £10. Hardly generous as the room Cost £110 per night.
Until the bathroom is refurbished, avoid at all costs
