Totally spoilt for choice from the superb 3-course Valentines Day menu. Tables were all set for two (unless you booked as a party) and beautifully decorated with a romantic theme. A lovely meal for two for less than £40 including a bottle of decent wine of your choice (my husband had steak I had tasty sea bass so we compromised on rose wine!) Great value and there was live music and dancing afterwards to round off a thoroughly enjoyable night. Thanks again Steve, Maria and Debbie - put us down for next year!!! Looking forward to your Irish Night

From the get go, know that this place is a work in progress. Speaking to Steve and Maria, they bought something of 'a project' let's say. I do wish they had taken pictures of how it was because it sounded dire. Walking in now, you wouldn't believe that this amazingly beautiful building was once a hovel. Lovely warm entrance with the dining room to the rear in the extension/orangery. The bar to the right holding a corner position with clean, polished surfaces and lots of tables to relax at. Real fires to hold the atmosphere further. To the left, at the moment, is a bit of a snug with another dining room that doesn't appear to be used often just yet. However speaking to Maria, she has plans for this snug and I'm excited to see it when it's done.

The rooms are at the moment, absolutely fit for purpose. TV's, fresh (very white and very clean) linen and towels. Tea and coffee provided in the room and wardrobe space.

We had dinner in the evening before heading for a few lemonades.....(ok that was a lie, lots of beer). I had the steak and pale pie. Very tasty with hand cut proper chips, YUM! One of the other party had a rump steak and I was told it was lovely.

For brekkie we all had full breakfasts cooked by Steve. Cracking Yorkshire breakfast fit for a King (see what I did there?). The nicest thing about breakfast though was the tea and coffee being served in pots. It's a lovely little touch.

Please ignore the little things that clearly Steve and Maria are working on. At some point they had to open the doors to get some revenue flowing, I get that and can see that once finished, this little place will be the pride of Kirkbymoorside, for the time being, it fits the bill fine for me and for the price, you really really can't complain.

The biggest thing for me was the attitude of every single member of staff including Steve and Maria. Genuinely lovely people. One of the waiting staff was having a breath of fresh air after brekkie and we got chatting to her. It's clear by the way she speaks about Steve and Maria that they are passionate about this place and its staff.

Steve has apparently been in the trade for over 20 years, you can tell, he knows his stuff. Maria, with her gorgeous Irish accent has an enthusiasm around her that is contagious! I can't wait to visit again to see what else has been done.

OH! Final thing, head out 10 minutes North and you will be in the most spectacular surroundings you can imagine. Take your walking boots....trust me.

Good luck guys. See you soon.

Dan & Kirsty x

We have just returned from a delightful long weekend break in Yorkshire in this lovely town. The Kings Head was our first choice and we were not disappointed in any way, our room was most comfortable and the breakfasts excellent. Steve and Maria the proprietors made us very welcome. There are real fires, a good selection of quality ales and meals are available in the evening. Overall well worth a visit.

We went to the Kings Head hotel for 2 days and stayed for 5. Accommodation comprises of 9 rooms and a small cottage .The building is over 400 years old and has an old world charm with a lovely entrance hall and real fires. Steve and Maria (Proprietors) made us feel most welcome as did Debbie and Karen. Our room was comfortable with ensuite bathroom. There is a great choice at breakfast and meals are also served in the evening.Forget your premier inns, the Kings head is a family run business and this shows by the friendliness of staff .We even joined Denis and Tim in with the popular Sunday quiz and won.Fantastic company in a welcoming hotel.Kirkymoorside is a good location for visiting the North Yorkshire moors, Scarborough, Whitby and York.Well worth a visit

no room at our sons house,so booked at the kings head in advance stayed in room 9 really nice room with creaky floor boards which added to the charm, our first breakfast was cooked by steve the owner which was perfect, but the duty chef the following morning was ok,but steves was one of the nicest breakfasts we ever had,we will certainly stay again and the beer was cheaper than down the road and more variety.

Room Tip: the web photos look really good our room 9 was perfect many thanks to mine host and your staff.

I found the owner very attentive and couldn't do enough for you, the food is of the highest quality I think I have ever had in a restaurant, I would definitely recommend this hotel and will definitely go back again.

With our son home for the weekend we took him and his grandparents for a thoroughly enjoyable family Sunday lunch that didn't break the bank!!! Spoilt for choice with a really nice selection of starters. The roast beef already came highly recommended and most of the party went that and all I can say is that it is now even more highly recommended and it was nice that there was the option of a smaller helping. I went for the fish which was delicious and just had to find room for the Bailey's Cheesecake with Cappuccino ice-cream. Sheer indulgence! Service was above and beyond in lovely clean, light and airy premises with easy access from the car park with one of our party recovering from a broken hip
