“Beware of rip off”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2012

Went with wife & other couple, food though expensive was brilliant. Our dog was charged at £15 but not allowed in pub. Wife injured arm, so before we went asked by telephone for a ground floor room and were told no problem and no extra charge. On returning in the post was an invoice charging £40 for this room and the money had already been taken from our debit card which we had not authorised.

Recently returned from our post Christmas break.Fabulous country Pub / Hotel/ Restaurant in lovely village.Ideal for visiting attractions in NYorks.Room a bit small but spotlessly clean,Bed comfortable,Bathroom great and actually had a bath not just the usual shower.Bar very cosy with wood burning stove.Locals very friendly.Restaurant and Bistro with great selection of EXCELLANT food both at breakfast and evening times.Lunch menu also available. We enjoyed it and would definately recommend it.

The staff fantastic ,the food fantastic, the rooms very good ,the owner David, what a miserable individual.Ineed of a customer relations course asap.

David and Alison the owners, Alison a reasonably pleasant lady .David the other half ,what a dour miserable grumpy man If he dosnt want people from outside Kirkby Moorside in his pub why advertise on Groupon !

The rest of the staff were simply fantastic and welcoming ,the rooms basic but very nice and clean, the food was truly 1st class along with the wine menu very good and reasonably priced the red house wine was excellent .

The George and Dragon was by far the best pub in Kirkby Moorside clean ,welcoming and fully stocked.

We booked two rooms well in advance of our stay but became concerned when reading previous reviews, which were largely negative. There must have been a huge effort by the staff to improve on past comments. Food and service was excellent, room 12 (mentioned in previous review) was huge yet quaint with traditional decor and furnishings. I strongly feel that people should view the whole picture. Many have complained about the rough plastering etc. these buildings are traditional and this adds to the ambience.
Breakfast was the best, large and made to order from a menu with a large choice of options.
*May benefit from installment of shower screen to protect the floor*

Room Tip: I emailed G&D many times prior to stay with questions and concerns which were answered quickly a...

Paid £110 for a ridiculously overpriced room. Everything about the room was shoddy. Paid for a superior room none of the furniture matched needed binoculars to see the telly it that small. Damp and mouldy plaster falling off the roof and later when getting into bed found the sheets were stained with blood (disgusting). The only slight saving grace from the whole experience was the food which couldn't be faulted and was some of the best we've ever tasted, so compliments to the chef. Also found the owners very rude.

While searching for vfm NYorks hotels for a short late-Spring break with my sons, location and food were the top priorities. The GnD hit the bullseye on both counts. Alison and David run a great hotel with a fabulous restaurant as the centrepiece. After long days cycling, hiking and mucking about on the coast it was a wonderful refuge where we could relax, recover and enjoy our evening meal together. Breakfasts were a big hit too. The room was comfy, quiet and clean, if a little spartan. And, the bathroom was basic - hence the overall rating. But, we would definitely stay again as its such good value and so friendly. Thanks!

Service of staff cannot be faulted, food was superb and generous portions. Location is ideal
for exploring the surrounding area and the coast. However and I mean however, the room decore and size were deplorable.Reading in hindsight various other reviews I can only concur with the thoughts contained therin. Very small double room, ancient bed, small
television perched on top of the creaky wardrope etc, etc, draughty windows , no actual shower only hand held contraption you required to use whilst sitting in the bath, water was warm though.
