Stayed here for a week in July.

Lotschental valley is wonderful, a bit off the beaten track, stunning, great hiking, easy to get to some other valleys in the area.

Hotel Edelweiss was great. Comfortable, very nice rooms with great views, best breakfast spread we had in our 2 + weeks in Switzerland. Lukas and his staff take great pride in making their hotel topnotch and their guests comfortable and happy. No question that I would stay here again.

We were a group of eight friend who went to the Lotschenvalley for a hiking weekend. We never regretted our decision to stay at the hotel fEdelweiss for the two nights! The owner, Mr Kalbermatten went out of his way to assist us wherever possible! The evening meal and breakfast were delicious! The best, however, about the hotel is its fantastic terrace with a superb view of the mountains and glaciers in the surrounding area! It is a great feeling to enjoy a lovely glass of wine and a platter of local cheese and cold meat after a long day out hiking.

The price of the hotel is a bit on the steep side for the standard of the rooms and the hotel. We took the corner room with two balconies, and were somewhat disappointed by the a bit uninspired furnishing and that the double bed has de facto two small mattresses with a gap inbetween them.

Sauna area is nice but small and can quickly get crowded. Unfortunately it's only open from 3.30 to 10pm and outside these hours you need to pay an extra fee of 10CHF, but that's well worth it as you have it for yourself.

The main restaurant room is nice and cozy and some locals stop by for a drink. The backroom is uninspiring, so take care that you are being seated in the main restaurant.

Wifi doesn't work in the rooms, at least not in ours.

You can rent sledges for free which I found unexpected and nice. Unfortunately the sledge slope from Lauchernalp isn't very good, too flat.

You can take the bus every hour to the bottom of the Lauchernalp cable car.

All in all, certainly a nice hotel, the service is cordial, and the hotel can be recommended. For 50CHF less per night, I would have given four, but at this price I would have expected a bit more. The family rooms are certainly an excellent deal, also if you are with a group of friends.

We were welcomed by the staff member warmly, even though we arrived quite late at night. He was very kind and even kept us company while we warmed up in the hotel bar with our baileys and warm milk. Waking up in this location, and eating breakfast out on the verandah will be a memory I cherish forever. It was so breathtaking! Words cannot describe the beauty of the mountains and valleys. I would definitely stay here again for a longer stay.

The Lotschental is largely undiscovered by British and American travelers, yet is believably one of the most beautiful and friendly mountain areas in Europe. It is a magnificent area for summer walking, particularly on the S.E. side of the valley. The way-marking is very good, and the paths vary from exhilarating to challenging.

Edelweiss is in the village of Blatten, largely undeveloped in tourist terms, and the hotel has an enviable situation overlooking the river (small-scale civil engineering works going on there at present).

We were comfortable and well-cared for. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful, and most were prepared to try their English on us, despite us being the only English-speaking guests. Lukas and Charlotte Kalbermatten are professional in their running of the hotel, and helpful and interested when required. We enjoyed learning more about the area from talks with H. Kalbermatten.

If you want a slick city hotel please go somewhere else, otherwise we feel sure you will enjoy your stay here.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the river are subject to the noise of the river, which may be intrusive for some.

Visited here several times during a week-long stay in Blatten in the beautiful Lotschental valley. Note that we didn't actually stay in the hotel, but ate and drank there several times during the week.
We were staying in a rented apartment just below the hotel but were attracted by the website which mentioned TV showing football in the bar - it was the week of the Euro 2012 Championship. The couple who I assume were the owners were very friendly and took trouble to get the rather old-school TV working in the bar. They were happy to serve dinner there so we went three times during the week.
The food was tasty and in good quantities, not particularly exciting and priced about mid-range, remembering that Switzerland is pretty expensive to start with. I would say the restaurant prices generally are double what you'd pay in the UK for a similar standard.
The hotel seemed to be comfortable although we didn't see the bedrooms. Locals came to have a drink in the evening and the place had a good atmosphere about it. It was pretty quiet during week, even though some of the other hotels and restaurants in the area where closed for staff holidays.
We'd certainly go back there if in the area again, which hopefully we will be, one day.
