Reading these latest reviews remind me of how lovely our own days at La Tropicale were, even though our holiday was over a year ago (January 2012). I must apologize that I haven't shared my review before.
It was our first trip with our 4 grown children and I struggled to find the perfect place: natural setting, close to a fantastic nearly unspoiled beach, with accommodation, not only affordable but suitable for a family of 6 without a car. I could not have been happier to find in Arnaud and his staff the most caring and accommodating of hosts. We enjoyed such relaxing moments that only such a laid-back environment could provide. We were even able to host a dinner for friends who joined us from Playa Flamingo.
It will be impossible to find anywhere else quite like this charming oasis. It looks like some changes have taken place since our trip, including the availability of meals at the main house. What a wonderful incentive... we will have to plan our return some day soon. Everywhere else truly will pale in comparison to the charming environment that is La Tropicale. No wonder we haven't been anywhere since!

Room Tip: Bora Bora is very private and spacious, with its own pool and patio.

There isn't enough stars to rate this Beach Lodge. From the first day we got on site until our very last minute, Arno, Allan, Luce and all of his staff made us feel at home just like we were family. The warm welcome we had, always willing to land a hand to organize our excursions or to guide us to the most amazing local Soda to have a bite to eat during the day. The Cabanas are lovely, always spotless and filled with fresh flowers every morning. It's was so refreshing to see every body smile and enjoying our company. Arno and Allan are the best chefs, daily trips in town to pick fresh protein and veggies to prepare our diners. There's NO other place on earth that you will have a 6 stars diner prepared and served to you by the hosts. Every little detail from the presentation to service was exceptional. We ate like royalties all week. I strongly recommend anyone that is planning a stay to include your meals because it is just that delicious and you will experience the local produce freshly picked every day. The property is candy for the eye, you think you've seen it all but there is always a new flower in bloom or colorful birds flying over. Arno's trails are well designed and very well lite at night so you can find your way under any circumstances. Not only do we come back home with memories but we made new friends. This is now our destination for each and every future vacation we will have. 6 of us stayed for 7 nights and we were all very pleased with the coziness of the cabanas, the music in the back ground, WE LOVED IT. See you all next year or sooner maybe :)

I was lucky enough to vacation at La Tropicale from February 24th until the 3rd of March with a group of 3 couples staying in 3 of the cabanas on the property. Each cabana had its own unique decor and far exceeded what I had expected for the price we paid. They were very comfortable with air conditioning as well as ceiling fans, they each had a outdoor private seating area, well stocked kitchens with fridges, hotplates, microwaves, blenders, toasters, and all the cooking utensils and dishes you need. The bathrooms and showers were clean and nicely decorated. Comfortable beds and storage in the rooms. Lucy makes sure that the rooms are spotless everyday and she does an amazing job. They were larger than I had expected and very lovely. I especially loved the little deck off the bedroom in my cabana it was so nice to sit out in that gorgeous tropical setting and have a coffee in the morning or a nice cool drink in the afternoon sun. All of the cabanas are very private in the way that they are situated in the lush tropical setting. At night the pathways are lit with colorful lights so you can easily find your way along the paths and gardens. There is a beautiful pool area that has the prettiest cascade of water . There is also a nice hot tub and outdoor shower there to rinse off. Around the pool area there is sun and shade if you want it and lounge chairs and smaller seating areas with tables. We had many fun evenings having drinks by the pool. At night there is fun twinkling lights that flash in the trees and we would listen to music and enjoy the warm night air. This area is central and it allowed us to meet new friends who were also staying at La Tropicale from other parts of the world and it was a great place to enjoy their company and learn some of their culture. We met people from Germany (Hi Tom, Tina and Chastine!) as well as people from France and Australia all enjoying their time at La Tropicale. There is a nice continental breakfast out each morning usually by 6 am for the early risers, it had fantastic Costa Rican coffee as well as tea, lots of fresh fruit, juices, different cereals and toast with butter and jams, it was everything you needed to start your day and the tables were always so nicely set. The bonus at breakfast would be the two gorgeous Macaws that loved to join us and share some fruit with us. There is an option at La Tropicale for meals, the breakfast is included but you can also arrange to have your dinners there as well. The kitchens in the cabanas have everything you need to cook your own meals but I must strongly suggest that you opt for the meals. I have never had such amazing , fresh delicious food at any resort I have ever stayed at, fine dining each night with beautiful table setting and nice dishes , always a three course meal with either a gourmet salad or appetizer, incredible main courses and delicious desserts with wine. We all looked forward to our dinners each night because each one was better than the one before. Arnuad and Allan our hosts and chefs went way out of their way to make sure our dinners were delicious and the experience a rich one. They even were kind enough to prepare different meals for some of us who had allergies also some of us who always asked for another scoop of ice cream ( you know who you are) The beach at Playa Carillo is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen and it was never packed with people even on the weekends there was always the feeling of spaciousness and privacy. The beach is a short walk down the road and we would go several times a day , morning , midday and sunset. A short bus ride gets you to Samara , a small town with The Bank and shopping, (Hi Joanie at the Princess Bakery! a must stop and treat yourself shop), it has some nice beach front restaurants and bars as well. Arno and Allan were so friendly and helpful with all of our needs, they were so informative and told us things like where to exchange our money and how to pay our airport tax in town ahead of time, they were more than willing to arrange any transportation we needed as well as any activities we wanted to do while there. Some of our group went deep sea fishing and Arno and Allan cooked the fish that they caught for us. It was fantastic! They quickly became friends with their passion and love of the place and their zest for life. We had so many good times and laughs together and I miss them already! ( Scooby, Keekoo and Chicca too!) I do not think that you could get a better value or a better experience then La Tropicale. When you look at the setting , the amenities, the well stocked cabanas, the 5 star dinners there is not a better place to stay for the price that you pay it is an incredible value. You will not be disappointed with all that you get for the price that you pay. For us the good times, the laughs and the friendships we made , the experiences we had were priceless and we will return to La Tropicale again and again!

I traveled to this amazing beach lodge from February 24 til March 3 and it was THE MOST AMAZING place we could have found. There were six of us total and we stayed at La Tropicale Beach Lodge for the entire 7 days. Arnaud and Allan are FANTASTIC hosts and we couldn't have picked a more perfect place to stay. Close to everything and most important WE WILL DEFINITELY return....next time our visit will be much longer :)
Thank you Arnaud, Allan, Nathalie, Lucy and the lovely Cake Shop in Samara...oh and of course lets not forget about the three most sweet dogs and 2 parrots and cat that made the finishing touches :)
See you all next year!!!!!!!! xoxoxoxoxoxoxox

Room Tip: All the Cabinas are lovely....you can't possibly get a bad one :-)

My wife, 2 girls (9 and 4 yo) , and I feel lucky to have stayed at Hotel La Tropicale and I consider it to be THE place to go in Carrillo. The kids loved the crazy parrots, serene dipping pool, secret jungle hideaway-like feel of the property, and free loaner boogie boards. We loved the privacy, relaxing vibe, air-conditioner, kitchen and big refrigerator/freezer, proximity to the beach and wildlife sanctuary (across the street), and feeling like it was safe for the kids. We stayed at another hotel during our time there and checked out a few others in town and this is by far the most interesting. You WILL NOT get waited on hand and foot, have a maid, or have multiple meal options. Arnaud (a flamboyant Frenchman) is charming and Allen (native Tico) loves kids and speaks great English. We miss you guys and hope to return soon.

Room Tip: If you are kids tell them. The family cabin even has its own dipping pool!

Stayed here for 6 nights in the middle of our first visit to Costa Rica. Arnaud and his staff were very friendly. It is a "boutique" hotel and our cabina was very private and we enjoyed cooking our dinners in the outdoor kitchen. The rooms were very well cleaned and the added touches were nice..you will know what I mean after staying there. The pool area is very tranquil and you will appreciate all the effort that goes into the landscaping. The town is a short walk away which adds to the charm and the beach was awesome.

My husband and I spent one night at La Tropicale because he had a Triathlon at Carrillo Beach.

We really enjoyed our stay. The bungalows are cozy and clean. This hotel is the perfect example that you can get a charming accommodation at very convenient price.

About the rooms we like it very much the little terrace in front of the bedroom and the excellent shadow the trees in the property provided (really appreciated under Guanacaste's sun)

Arnaud and Allan were excellent hosts.

If you are looking for a 5 star accommodation or an All-inclusive hotel this is not your place, but if you are looking for a great value for money option, this will fit you perfectly.
