Since I prefer adventurous vacations, I figured I would get bored with five days of hanging out at a small place, but I thoroughly enjoyed whiling away the hours at Case Del Mar. We stopped by several 5 star hotels while we were on the island and they seemed rather instituional by comparison. Wonderful staff. Beautiful facility. A highlight of our recent trip to Asia.

Really friendly & helpful staff, good beachfront location, nice pool, plenty of sunloungers, excellent breakfast with a large choice of dishes cooked to order, quality restaurant with the option of dining on the beach, what's not to like ? - Pantai Cenang is a bit on the scruffy side and I got stung by a jellyfish. (The staff are trained to deal with this and treated me promptly and efficiently). We would definitely recommend Casa del Mar and don't understand the unfavourable reviews.

It is sad to read some adverse reports on the CDM,but they are only a few.My wife and I are well travelled and we have stayed in some of the top hotels,we can go anywhere in the world but we are just about to book our 4th 14 days at the CDM. the hotel and staff are second to none you will find it difficult to find hotel staff as helpfull anywhere else as at the CDM..We find the CDM a very restfull clean ,good food and very friendly staff the situation of the hotel is away from the hustle and bustle of the main area this is a wonderfull place if you want peace and a restfull holiday.

We stayed at Casa del Mar a few years ago and we had the most wonderful time there.
The hotel is very well located right next to the beach and the rooms face the pool and sea. When we arrived, the staff were very helpful and friendly and felt welcomed straight away. Our room was very clean and lovely. What it made a huge difference to our stay were little touches, like the fragranced weather forecast that we used to get every morning in our room or the water and watermelon they used to offer us by the pool. It was an amazing stay and I would highly recommend this hotel to everybody.

We chose this hotel because every single review on Trip Advisor was good. And i’m now going to add to that list.

Firstly, the location is a huge advantage. The Casa Del Mar (and the Meritus next door) are both on the main drag and just 10 minutes drive from the airport. This means you can step outside the hotel, turn right, and walk down a bustling street full of local restaurants and shops. The restaurants are all to be recommended. The food is first class and cheap as chips. You can have a superb meal for about £8 a head. We also loved the fact that you are mixing with the locals as they go about their business and seeing the real Langkawi. None of this is possible if you are in one of the hotels on the north of the island.

So, back to the hotel itself. We were in a beachfront studio room and it was fabulous. Air conditioned, but proper air conditioned which means it doesn’t make a noise and you can sleep. Our bed was enormous, the bathroom had bath and shower, lots of storage, lounge area, big TV on wall, mini bar etc. Lots of bottled water is provided at no charge, and they bring a bottle for both of us every night and put it on each bedside table with a glass when they come to turn the bed down.

Breakfast was a help yourself buffet with a wide selection of cereals, breads etc. I loved the mango jam. There was also an a la carte menu (all included) which my husband made full use of having curry for breakfast every day! Coffee was served in a little plunger and tea in a pot, everything is done properly. Bucks fizz on Sunday mornings.

The hotel is small, another bonus. When full there are 68 guests – and there are 64 staff! Everything runs like clockwork. Nothing is too much trouble. The bar staff are great and the cocktails are dangerous! I tried some of the mocktails as well and they were delicious. They also bring jugs of water to your sun bed and fruit at lunchtime. Later on they bring round little mango ice lollies which are yummy and very popular.

Our package included 4 dinners and the restaurant is actually on the beach. It’s great having a lovely meal served to you while feeling the sand between your toes and listening to the gentle lapping of the sea. Food is excellent quality and the wine list is pretty good. We are fussy about our wines and I do recommend the Chablis and also the Rose.

We booked a couple of trips through the hotel, the Mangrove tour (highly recommended) and the Island Hopping. We also hired a car and drove round the island – car hire place is opposite the hotel although I didn’t see the sign until the third day!

It’s worth walking along the beach as an alternative to the road. There are some great beach bars that appear at night further down the beach. They have little tables and rolled up mats or bean bags, so you can buy your drink at the bar and sit on these on the beach with your drink and watch the world go by. And it does go by. There is a constant stream of activity on the beach (not in front of the Casa Del Mar – further down). Whole families come to BBQ and eat and their children to play, lots of western backpackers staying at the motels and B&B’s, the occasional 4x4 driving along towing a jet ski to be put away for the night. Tourists like us, plus Japanese, Chinese, Australian etc. We loved the fact that a beach had so much going on every night.

It’s also worth checking out the Night Market on Thursdays. This is not easy to find and was about a 20 minute walk (or you can get a taxi). Reception will tell you the way. It’s great, we walked around buying food at different stands until we were so full we couldn’t eat any more. On walking back we worked out we had spent the grand sum of £4!

I would say that the Casa Del Mar is not suitable for children. There are no facilities for children at all and it is aimed at couples/adults. Having said that there was a family with a small baby and another with two teenagers. But there is nothing for children to do so if you have kids between 3-12 it would be best looking for a hotel geared up for kids.

This is a superb hotel and I cannot fault it. We left just before Christmas and were sorry to go. The hotel was full for Christmas and New Year so be warned if you want to stay here you need to book well in advance.

Highly recommended.

Langkawi was our second stop on our honeymoon. It is an unforgettable place, and we believe it was due to our amazing stay in Casa Del Mar that made it so memorable. The staff here are excellent, friendly, accommodating and warm. We were greeted with a bunch of flowers and a welcome note with some local made pot pori - a small but very sweet touch. The food at the La Sal restaurant is sublime, fresh and the highest quality. We stayed in a beachfront villa and walking just five steps onto the beach was just brilliant. It is a dream place and we will recommend to friends and family. Do yourselves a favour, spend a little more and stay here, you wont regret it. Oh and the banana pancakes for breakfast are a must try! :)

This was the last stop on our honeymoon after two weeks of travelling in china and we couldn't have asked for more. We would definitely return both to the hotel and island.
The hotel staff were friendly, the room & beach immaculate and the spa was delightful. They have beautiful products in the room and spa.
The food was so nice we only ate there and if you are willing to pay a little ore they do very good romantic set meals. We had both a 6 course meal paired with cocktails and the seafood barbeque.
Thinking of it now is making me want to make another booking!
