“Great resort, perfect for family”
Reviewed May 1, 2013

Stay here for 3n & 2d with family and my parents. Both room (double and twin) are spacious, very comfy bed although our double bed was 2 single bed attached into 1 huge bed, but we didnt feel any gap. Great breakfast, lots of varieties and selection of local food and continental. They also have this kids pool which is very entertaining for my toddler. Their beach is great also, clean and not so crowded although I've seen more beautiful beach. Their staff are nice, friendly and helpfull. Their car rental also excellent, we got 2010 Suzuki Baleno and its price is same as one in the airport.

The cons during my stay only the housekeeping, we returned at 4 pm and they havent made up our room yet, waited until 4.30 pm and no one came, ended up calling the housekeeping to have our room cleaned. And also when booking we requested for interconnecting room, but were given this facing rooms. After read some of reviews here looks like they dont have interconnecting room.

But overall my stay is pleasant, and i wont hesitate to stay in this resort again in my next visit to Langkawi.

Room Tip: Don't choose rooms near the swimming pool, sometimes at night when u trying to rest, there are p...

My sister and I spent 5 glorious nights at the Meritus Pelangi and loved every minute of our stay. We had a beautiful deluxe garden room with twin beds, and they were so comfortable. The room was great in every way - great shower with strong water pressure, loads of storage and hanging space, huge ground floor terrace, free soft drink/water refilled every day, great a/c, no noise from the other rooms.....and the list goes on. The rooms are placed in small blocks and there is lots of lovely garden areas between each block. The leisure centre has plenty of complimentary bicycles - terrific for riding around the huge resort on their wide pathways. The main pool is WOW! We were there in low season, and there were tons of loungers around the pool and facing the glorious beach. We were originally going to stay at another top rated resort, but a great rate came up for the Meritus, and we NEVER looked back. The Meritus Pelangi is amazing, and the staff are a credit to the resort. They bent over backwards to make our stay memorable. I agree with the previous review - the main foyer is stunning for a drink and to relax with the music - perhaps Happy Hour all night would encourage more people to enjoy the lovely area. Breakfast was fantastic, with seating inside and out. A special thanks to the service of our lovely maid Amira, the delightful staff members, especially Ismail, who has worked there for 22 years, and the general manager, Clementine, for his wealth of knowledge and gracious manner. We cannot wait to return to our lovely resort in Langkawi. 10/10 for everything!

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely. We stayed in block 10, which was close to the restaurant, leisure centre, and...

Spent nearly 3 weeks here from beginning of April 2013, arrived late at night so really couldn't get a feel for the place straight away.... was in Room 807 to start with, was a great room , very comfortable but on 4th night we found a few bats in the roof rafters and one was flying around room in the night, they obviously found a sneaky way in through roof. Went to reception to report it, they were fantastic about it, moved us straight away to one of the best rooms in hotel ( 701 ) , right on the beach, ground floor, had a fantastic bathroom and balcony with steps onto the beach :).... Breakfast every morning was excellent ( how some people on trip advisor complain about it baffles me, they obviously just like to moan !! ) , great selection, all nicely cooked and have as much as you like !! Coffee or tea always a beckon call away .....
The swimming pool is beautiful, very very well kept. The childrens area is a brilliant thing, lots of adults couldn't resist messing about in there haha.
The grounds are very well tended and all staff on the entire site were friendly and smiley and helpful....
I only have one negative about the hotel:........ the lobby area is excellent, have a band regularly and very spacious BUT its usually empty !!! because of the prices in the hotel !! you can buy a beer in cenang for 4rm, but hotel charges 15rm !! the food is well over priced !! Its a shame, because if it was cheaper, the place would be packed and they'd make a lot more money .. We had 2 days washed out by rain, we asked how much it was to watch a dvd on the great TV's in the room.... 28 ringitts !!!!!!!!!!! TWENTY EIGHT haha..... unbelievable amount !! over £6 ..... if these were ( a lot ) cheaper, lots more people would pay for them.....!!
BUT , overall, it is a fantastic hotel, in a fantastic location, with excellent staff..... you will not be disappointed if you visit here...... 9/10

Room Tip: Ask for rooms facing THE BEACH, block 7 is perfect

Decided to go for a short break here recently, the whole place has been refurbished and looks nice. It has this village style villas spread around the beach, check in was smooth and efficient.... The front desk guy was polite and answered every question i posed to him with a smile ( not sure the name but was a chinese guy ) All the staff were very kind and sweet and always serves you with a smile.... We took a pelangi suite room and the room was gorgeous, the living room had a nice big sofa, we had 2 verandas, one from the room and another from the living room.... the bedroom was very comfy and had another big sofa in it..... minibar was complimentary but the snacks inside was quite dire (ie 4 soft drinks, 2 mineral water and a packet of nuts )... There was a welcome fruit basket though....... we spent most of our time in the room and loved its sea view..... Breakfast though, i feel could have been improved with more varieties but i think they cater towards which majority group are residing there.... Some of their food like the nasi lemak was quite bland...... Also tried their room service menu and their pizzas and 5 spices supreme chicken were good..... Overall this is a very nice hotel and i enjoyed every minute there.... and also kudos to your wonderful staff!!!!

Room Tip: Sea facing rooms are very nice.....

am now here at the resort. giving reviews. =)

the customer service is fab here. not a single sullen face. e buggy service is fantastic. our deluxe beachfront rm is near e lobby, e breakfast restaurant, e pool, e playground... so we are always walking about but tt didnt stop e buggy drivers who were driving passed to politely ask us if we needed a lift. :)

its e other little thgs too. like how they left certain thgs untouched because we specifically left them so eg not-hotels-rm cards in e feeder to keep e ac running so tt our rm is nice and cool always. hair dryer where we plugged them. it makes our stay much more hassle-free.

housekeeping didnt take our rm5 tipping money or threw out e 2 words 'thank you' note. they just drew a smiley face back!

no. hotel. we stayed in ever do tt. ever. be it e suites in a 6-star or a motel. ever.

overall, its a fab normal regular 5 star resort on a beautiful, strategic location with a variety shopping and dining choices. BUT with an excellent human touch.

Its their service that makes a memorable difference.

:)

Three of us stayed here for 7 days and our room was opposite the pool, near the restaurant and in view of the sea and could'nt have been better (1402). Large well apppointed bedroom with french doors opening onto a verandah. Biggest double bed i have ever slept in. The third bed we were given was a camp type and too small for our 16 year old and he slept on the couch which was fine when made up into a bed. Part of the hotel grounds were closed off due to refurbishment but did not affect our stay at all. Before arriving we had secured a deal which allowed us access to the Club lounge which is a small lounge type area for such members with internet, TV and ability to have breakfast there which is less frantic than the main dining area. Snacks are also provided during the day and access to free soft drinks and alcohol (5-7pm). All sounds good, but the problems were that:
No checks are done as to who comes in / out, despite the fact people have paid extra for this. Some parents treat it as a creche and leave their children to play long games etc on internet (despite signs saying don't) and allow them to pick / touch the food on offer. The snacks were a little hit and miss on occassions where one plate of food would arrive to be quickly finished up and nothing else for a while. Breakfast selection was smaller and consequently we used the larger dining area next door. The shining glory at this hotel is its staff who were excellent, friendly and all without question provided excellent customer service. Our cleaner Nanny (Rosanane) was a star and looked after us well throughout our stay. The large pool in front of our room had different areas, which meant it never felt crowded. Free bikes are available and the gym was well appointed. Astro turf football and tennis with free equipment. The only time we used the spa was to use the showers on the last day and that area was looking little tired and hopefully part of the future refurbishment. A short walk to the beach which had white sand and lovely warm water. There was mention of jelly fish at times but we did not encounter any problems. Despite the Club comments, this was a great hotel and i would return and recommend it. The town itself is about a 5 min walk and loads of local restaurants (we ate great food for around £6 for all of us at times). Whilst there we used taxis which were cheap and visited: Capital Kuah and the local market (same one seems to travel around the Island) and sampled food from the stalls. The capital is a little spreadout but worth a visit. Cable car and Oriental Village (few nice shops / Segway and elephant rides, but not very quaint). Mangrove Tour with Devs adventures was excellent (guide Chute) and highly recommended and included lunch, lots of wildlife spotting and visit to an island for a quick swim. Thoroughly enjoyed our first trip to Langkawi.

Room Tip: 1402 was our room and we had no complaints with standard and location. The wardrobes / storage area...

This was our third stay but were slightly disappointed. When we booked, and even while we were there, there was no mention on the hotel website of the refurbishment that was going on. One pool was closed and there was a number of the rooms closed. We had requested adjoining rooms, but these were not available and we were initially given rooms one above the other - but both double rooms - we had 3 children, then we had 2 rooms in same block - next to the refurbishment works. Eventually were moved after 2 nights to adjoining rooms with sea views - much nicer. Re-furbished rooms are much improved with new bathrooms and free soft drinks in the mini bar was a nice touch. Breakfast had a wide and varied selection and kept everyone in the family fat and happy! Children (and adults) enjoyed the pool and the quiet beach. Didn't eat in the hotel at night - preferred to walk 5 minutes to the multitude of good and cheap restaurants in Pantai Cenang.

Room Tip: If you can get a Sea view room
