We stayed in Rainbow Lodge for 3 nights in late February 2013.

For the price (50RM per night), we didn't expect a lot, and although our standard double fan room was very very basic, it was fine for the price. It consisted of a double bed, wall mounted fan, in room sink and a small ensuite bathroom/ wet room. The shower was simply a pipe coming out of the wall, no shower head and cold water, but then again I refer to my earlier comments about the price! The cold water was also rather refreshing given the hot temperature.

The standard fan doubles are in a block behind the main lodge area where the dorm and fancier aircon doubles are. There must be ten to twelve rooms squeezed into a shed like building which is fine although it did get rather noisy one evening when some very inconsiderate neighbours came home late forgetting that anyone else existed in the world.

The lodge itself is very charming and colourful and is located down a small side street just off the main Pentai Cenang road. It is an easy 5 to 10 minutes stroll to the beach. The main reception/ bar area is excellent and very chilled out with none of these stupid rules or unnecessary costs associated with things. For example, it has free wifi (works well but in the reception area only), a free pool table, a grab your own pay later trust policy on drinks, book swap, etc. it was quite refreshing staying somewhere with no silly hidden costs. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful too. The food (whilst not extensive) and drink seemed very cheap to me having travelled through Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia in recent months. RM3 for a small beer is cheap in anyone's world, surely!

The lodge also has on site motorcycles to rent out if that's your sort of thing.

Overall, we had a good stay at Rainbow Lodge and would recommend to budget couple travellers.

Room Tip: The double aircon rooms are obviously slightly nicer but the standard fan rooms were absolutely fine for the price and we slept well except the one night referred to above but that was just inconsiderate others, nothing to do with the room.

After staying closer to the town centre on our first night and being woken up by a car crashing into and demolishing a building, we moved to Rainbow. Great place, great staff. Really relaxed place with bar that shuts at midnight on the dot so no noise after that. If you want more then just walk down to the main strip 2 minutes away. Stayed for a week then went to Thailand for a few days and returned to Rainbow. They had got the dates mixed up for our return and instead of the fan room we were expecting we were given a bungalow for one night at no extra cost and then moved back to a fan room the next day. There is a good laundry round the back which offers next day service. Wouldn't stay anywhere else.

Room Tip: All rooms are good, just depends on whether you want a fan or air con. The air con rooms have hot showers but in Malaysia a hot shower just isn't necessary. The bungalows have small fridges and TV's, but who wants to stay in and watch TV??

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Rainbow Lodge for 11 nights. Needless to say we enjoyed our stay there a lot.

The rooms are clean, spacious, have attached bathrooms and a veranda. We payed 50 RM/night for a double with queen size bed and fan. The off-season prices should be 40 RM.

The restaurant is not as cheap as the hawker food outside, but smell and taste are superior to the cheaper food on the streets. Throughout the day there is music in the restaurant/lounge and during the night movies or soccer matches are being shown.

There are laptops available for those who don't carry one. Rate is fair 2RM/hour.

The managers are really friendly, speak excellent English and offer lots of advice. Tours and tickets can be bought from RBL and scooters and bicycles are available for rent as well.

All in all a good place to relax, calm atmosphere, good for couples or solo travelers who want to socialize.

4/5 stars because there are a few (not many though, only 1-2 come to mind) places with better location for the same or even less money and no hot water for the showers (no problem for me, but others it may be) and the mattresses are a bit old (soft in the middle).

Rainbow Lodge is a great budget option close to Cenang beach on Langkawi. We booked a room with fan for 3 nights, which was of a good size and was clean. If staying longer we would probably have upgraded to an air conditioned room. They also rent out bungalows for longer stays.
The hotel is located a short walk (5 minutes from the beach) and in a quiet and secluded position. The Rainbow Lodge has a great vibe and is a wonderful place to relax and unwind. Food in the cafe is very good and wi-fi is also available there. We particularly enjoyed the great breakfasts and the curries!
There are some lovely bars on the beachfront. We also found a burrito and barbeque stall just along the beach from the lodge, which was great value and had very tasty food.
We would definitely stay at the Rainbow Lodge if visiting Langkawi again.

I spent a week in Langkawi - we checked in first at a guest house down the road but moved after the first night to Rainbow Lodge. We were completely happy with the Lodge, the rooms are good value, clean and well fitted out. Comfortable clean beds and air con, with a nice bar/restaurant area out the front. The bar was always full but never too noisy, which meant we could always go socialise when we wanted but were not disturbed when we wanted to rest.

The position was good, possibly a little difficult to find if you don't know where you are going - but only five minutes from the beach and restaurant strip, yet very quiet what more could you want.

Wifi only worked in the bar which was actually good as it got us out of the rooms in the evening! Food and drinks were good, but then there is a lot of choice in Langkawi so you never feel restricted.

During our stay I injured my hand and required stitches. The staff of Rainbow immediately drove me across the island to the hospital (all medical centres being closed due to Chinese New Year) and made sure we got the help we needed. They checked in with us later and made us feel welcome and looked after. And really, it is the things like this that make the difference between just being a customer and being a guest.

So very happy with our stay and will be sure to choose Rainbow Lodge again next time.

Room Tip: Rooms to the back are quieter
