Legends is an incredibly friendly golf club set among stunningly spectacular scenery high in the hills of southern Malaysia. From the moment you walk in you are made to feel welcome and that your custom is valued. This was our second visit on their “Stay and Play” package and one that was eagerly looked forward to even though booked at short notice.

The clubhouse comprises a bar come snack restaurant with an impressive terrace which provides a pleasing backdrop for a couple of beers before dinner. They also have a Chinese restaurant although on both of our visits we have chosen to eat at the attractive “Riders’ Lodge” a few minutes back down the drive (see my separate review of this establishment.)

The rooms are in a group of chalets arranged alongside the eighteenth green, thus the view upon waking up and pulling back the curtain is one that conveys anticipation as to the round ahead of you. The accommodation is adequate without being luxurious, clean and comfortable and wonderfully quiet except for the jungle wildlife noises all around. Each room has a patio and we had the foresight to pack an extra bottle of red wine which made for an enjoyable nightcap sharing the space with some of nature’s little curiosities before turning in for the night.

And the course? Very good. Some challenging holes, many outstanding views, a group of majestic hornbills on one tee, a beautifully marked but ominous looking snake on another (steer clear of him,) and generally a credit to the greenkeepers. Play a hole well and congratulate yourself, have a disaster and step back, look around and say, “There are worse places to be at this moment.”

We enjoyed Legends Golf Club. We hope to have the chance to play it again.

We chose this instead of staying at the riders lodge where we had our horse riding course mainly due to budget. It is also nearest to the riders lodge.

The good:
- provide free cabby ride to and fro the hotel to riders lodge.
- cheap
- receptionist is quite friendly

The bad:
- Room is not very well maintained. There's a stench in the room and it doesn't seem to go away. The flush of the toilet wasn't working very well initially and we got the staff to fix it while we were out for class. Not sure whether we didn't lock the door or the staff forgotten to lock our door after fixing the toilet, we found our door unlock when we returned to the room at night. Everything is in order despite that. After we showered and sort of settled down, a bat (dunno how it entered) starter circling around the ceiling fan. We were shocked and ran out of the room. We went to the receptionist and she asked for a security guard to take a look at the room at the same time gave us a new room right below this one. The security guard walked around the room and can't find the bat, decided to stay by the door while we pack our things and move to the ground floor.
- there's only a Chinese style restaurant (but offers western food too) in this resort. It closes before 10pm. We went there around 9 plus and they seem to be packing up already. Strange observation: we (asian) ordered before a group of westerners and asked for rice based dish but the waiter told us they are not making anymore rice based dish for the night. The group who ordered later were served rice dishes...
