We spent a few nights in this hotel and had some visits - to the waterfall as well as the elephant shelter. The views from the hotel are stunning - a beautiful place. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel - not the best but okay. The small cabins/rooms were very nice.
It seems that new management was trying to revive the place - but we had the feeling that some more marketing activities to put the hotel more visible would be good.

Lake kenyir is very breathtaking. We went to Lasir waterfall and it's really nice. We swim in the lake beside jetty n it's quite relaxing n joyful. The room is spacious and full with privacy as it's separates chalet type. Bathroom is big n water pressure is big too.

Enjoy the birdwatching of hornbill around the resort. Dun spend rm60 to follow tour guide for birdwatching as it's u can do it by ur own around the resort.

There were various food serving in buffet style. The taste is ok but unfortunately we suffered serious food poisoning on the last day of our trip. The first day 4 out of 6 persons in our group were diarrhea for few times also. So, be careful for the food there. And also the plate there also doesn't seem hygiene. Overall, a bad memory for us. Won't go for second time.

This place could be really great. The position of the resort at the lake is fantastic. Unfortunately the place is not well maintained. We planed two nights, but we got a room for one night only because the next day the hotel was fully booked.....fortunately. The chatel are old, the aircon is not working properly, the bathroom is not very clean. I am quite easy so I don't complain for small issues. The rubbish around the compound doesn't help much. The staff is friendly as in most places in Malaysia. At the pool you don't have any shadow.

Before you jump to any conclusion on my write up because of the title, please note - if you plan to stay here, go ahead. I will summarize my points in pros and cons and you'll understand why the title and my recommendation seems paradoxical.
Pros:
1. A very well planned resort with gorgeous chalets, well positioned to view the lake and garden. The chalets are huge and rustic.
2. The staff are polite and courteous. The lobby is huge and has an excellent view of the surroundings. The resort also provides games like darts, carrom and pool during the times when you have nothing to do.
3. The food at the restaurant cannot be faulted at all! The choice may be limited, but whatever they serve you is tasty. I prefer a limited choice tasting good rather than a huge spread that tastes horrible.
4. The sight-seeing tours are done by experienced and well trained people. We had a lovely ride on the lake to the herb island and the Saok waterfall.
Sounds good, yes? What could be wrong then?
Cons:
1. The place is a little run down. I think they need to look at the maintainence and upkeep of the infrastructure. Some of the outer parts of the chalets are rotting.
2. To many break downs in the chalets. The management should understand that we, the guests are coming from far. We rather not be disturbed by regular servicing and maintainence at the chalets. Some of the light bulbs were fused and needed to be changed while we were in. This can be a nuisance.
3. Cleanliness is an issue. Lots of rubbish thrown around in the lakeside. This is the visitors fault, I understand. But the responsibility of cleaning up lies in the hands of the resort management.
4. Beware of bats at the lobby!!! There are bat droppings at the front counter and they DO drop their faeces and urine when someone is standing there. Can we get rid of the bats? I know it's a resort in a forest reserve, but bat droppings on the customers?

Room Tip: 1. Gat the lakeview chalets. Who wants to look at the garden when you're at such a beautiful lak...

Magnificient view of the lake. Breathtaking. Simply wonderful. Sound of nature is every where. The chalets were spacious and neat. However, some chalets are kinda run down and may need to be refurbished. Food selection at the cafe was pretty limited yet sufficient. Besides the limited selection offered by the ala carte menu they mostly tasted good.

You'll love this place if you are into nature.

Room Tip: Ask for the lakeview for a wonderful sunset.

We had read some of the bad reviews before booking but thought that we would risk a 2 night stay This hotel is like watching a crime in action, the location is superb but the hotel must rate as the worst we have stayed in. On arrival we were shown to our 2 lakeside view rooms and found them to be filthy, dirty bathroom floors, soiled walls !!! and filthy toilets. The covers on the settee and decorative runner on the bed were soiled and dirty. There was black mould around the bathroom sink and toilet. After complaining the housekeeper came and we asked to be moved to 2 clean rooms and consequently had to wait over an hour for 2 rooms to be cleaned, although the hotel was less than 20% occupied !!! The final result was that one couple had three rooms over a 2 night stay- As there were no other restaurants in the area we took the risk of eating there, fish was served on two evenings under cooked and returned and one of our party had the chicken and suffered the consequences later that evening. This is little more than a poor quality cafe. The entire staff were lethargic and there appeared to be a total lack of any management direction at any level. Even speaking eventually to the Duty Manager was a total waste of time. Because of its location this could be a wonderful place to stay but it needs a complete refurbishment and re-organisation which again is reflected in its under occupancy of less than 20%

Room Tip: Don´t go there

The trip to Lake Kenyir was made impromptu after our stay in Kuala Terengganu. It was a decision which we did not regret. The lake is spectacular. Although we just walked in without any booking, we managed to get 2 adjoining chalets facing the lake. The chalets were adjoined via a small corridor between them. The scenery is so serene. The rooms looks good at first sight, but upon closer inspection, we noted that it lacks cleaning. The wardrobes smell musty, the floor is dusty, cobwebs on the table lamp, dirty toilet seat & floor. The adjoining corridor's windows are dirty. The hotel's buggy service is slow as there is only 1 buggy servicing the hotel for the 2 days we were there. But the staff manning the bugging are extremely friendly.

We had our dinner at the hotel's restaurant and the food is not bad though the desserts' stuff seems to be the same for the few days we were there, breakfast & dinner .

There are lots of activities provided, such as dart, billiard (or pool), carrom, congkak etc. My son & I decided to have a game of dart after dinner and was told there is only 1 dart available. The rest are broken. Bicycles are provided but only for adult :(

Despite all that, my son loves this place as he gets to do so fishing. He managed to get 3 "toman" (local fish) and was estatic.

The Although scenery is a selling point, customer's comfort must be looked into too. Cleanliness is the one of the customer's top consideration for choosing hotel.
