Hotel Dimmer is situated on the border of Germany and Luxembourg and is ideally situated to tour the area - which we would recommend. The area has some wonderful scenery and interesting castles and museums. The hotel is very clean with an excellent dining room and good food. Our 'comfort standard' en suite rooms were light and airy and very clean. The hotel has a free gym, sauna and steam room. The staff were welcoming, pleasant and helpful. We are hoping to return to explore the area. Luxembourg is expensive but the cost was well worth it.

Room Tip: If you want to save a little money ask for a room without a balcony. The Hotel also has rooms in the...

Stayed at hotel campsite run by Petra and Ron. Facilities spotless and location tranquil and picturesque. Opportunity to fish, kayak (organised trips and boat hire available) and swim in river. Restaurant at the hotel is good - with a good wine menu and great service. Highly recommended.

We arrived at this hotel after 9pm to a very warm welcome following a full day of driving. Whilst we were checking in we asked if there was still food being served, we were told unfortunately not as the restaurant had just closed. We were visibly disappointed and the member of staff asked us to wait a moment and went off. He came back and ushered us into a lovely, well lit, modern restaurant. The staff were polite and helpful, especially as it was not 20 mins after the restaurant closing time. They helped us translate the menu and ordered. The food arrived and was absolutely gorgeous. My partner had the Goulash and I had a Cream of Leek soup. Both dishes were equally tasty however I did wish I had the Goulash too!!!
Our room was very tastefully decorated with a decent size en-suite. Both were very clean.
We cannot recommend this hotel enough. The staff and hotel are both welcoming and friendly and the area it is in breathtakingly beautiful.

The man who checked us in spoke English very well. When we checked out, he was very adamant that we should see the rest of Luxemburg, and go down to the capital, and gave us a thick tourist brochure (in French, they had run out of the English ones) ... Which was very kind, but it wasn't on our itinerary.

Room 33 has a balcony and faces the road, but it's a fairly quiet road at night (in late September, at any rate), so it was okay. There was a TV, a shower and a table. For UK travellers: no tea or coffee making facilities. The double bed was two single beds put together, and they were reasonably comfortable. Pillows were thankfully synthetic, as feather pillows make me sneeze.

We didn't actually sleep very well, waking up several times, but we can't think of a particular reason. Maybe because the room got very warm, as I had put the radiator on for a bit previously because the room was a bit chilly initially.

We didn't go for the €12 per person breakfast, and instead thought we'd pick something up on the way to where we were going, which in hindsight might not have been the best idea.

Next to the hotel is a river. On one side of the river is Willendorf in Germany. On the other, Willendorf-Pont in Luxemburg. It's maybe 20 minutes drive (or so) from Vianden. Hotel Dimmer is just off the bridge connecting the countries. We had a walk over to Germany after checking in, but there was nothing really open at the time, and it seemed short on eateries, so we ended up back in the hotel's own restaurant, and splashed out on a set menu for €30 each to celebrate the proper beginning of our European holiday. Very nice food, would recommend it.

We stayed in the hotel on nov 24th 2012. The rooms are very clean, quiet and very important : they have good beds. The breakfast is complete and everything is fresh. We can also recommend the restaurant to take your evening meal. They serve very good, freshly made food of excellent quality. The hotel also has a great sauna with turkish bath, hot stone, ... It was the second time we've stayed here and will certainly be coming back.

We went there all the family (8 peoples from 2 to 58 years old), and we have received a very warm welcome from all the team. The hotel is a perfect place for discovering the region, quiet, and secure. The restaurant is really wonderfull: breakfast very complete an the diner is excellent.
