This is our third ClubMed experience having previously stayed in Bali and Cherating, Malaysia. We booked for 9 nights after having spent two nights in Singapore.

This is a slightly weird review as I would have rated our other two ClubMed experiences as 5 Stars, yet this was probably our best holiday experience. I think to be fair this was helped by our daughters being more independent at ten and eight years old so that everyone felt that they had a great holiday.

The positives of the resort were:

1: The beach - I don't know if it is a public beach but from it's very location it is private. The beach is one of the best I have ever been at. Crystal clear water, on some days some great waves, and beautiful sands which don't get too hot however fierce the sun is.

2: The GO's - we met some of the best GO's we have experienced - Jeremy (J-Max), Kat, Eric, Kori (tennis coach), the South African guys - Gid & apologies for not remembering the names of the guy from Watersports & the Golf Pro all led by Mike who really wants everyone to have a great time. We also thought the Indonesia Restaurant Manager Tist, was brilliant and simply hilarious in the shows.

If you have ever been to a ClubMed you should know the score. The holiday is designed to be fun for kids and also give parents a great time off. We will definitely be back.

The minor criticisms that knock off half a star:

1: The rooms are a little bit worn - they are a good size but they look in need of a little bit of TLC. this in no way effected our enjoyment as on a ClubMed holiday you should be just using them for sleep. We were out at 8 o'clock not returning until at least 10:30pm.

2: The amount of sun loungers - given the size of the beach and the available space within the grounds there should be more.

3: The food was 3 and a half stars - not bad and there was the usual variety, though it didn't match the standards of Cherating & Bali. The Waterfall restuarant is a little bit canteen for my liking. The Terrace restuarant which you have to book is a nice venue but the food is no better and actually less variety.

4: The GO's. As I mentioned in the positives we met some of the best GO's we have ever experienced in Club Med. However we did find especially in the Kid's Club that some GO's were not of the same standard. I don't know whether it was the amount of children that were at the resort at the same time (this was mentioned to us by staff several times) but some GO's didn't display the energy and enthusiasm in the club which resulted in my girls not wanting to spend time in there. I am not sure if it was due to the fact that they were exhausted with the number of kids.

5: The shows. These were very good. However they appear to be on a 7 day rotation so we saw 2 shows twice. Surely some people do stay more than a week like us?

Overall a very good experience and we will be back to ClubMed again. Special thanks to Kori the tennis coach who made getting up in the morning and exhausting myself not seem like exercise.

Room Tip: Be prepared for lots of stairs. We were the top floor in Ulin which was five flights of stairs from the beach.

We have nothing but good things to say about our experience in this hotel.
- rooms: freshly renovated. We had 2 communicating rooms, very large. Beautiful bathroom. Small balcony. Close to the main buildings. Every night the staff who made up our room left a little surprise for the kids, mainly sculptures of animals made in towels and flowers. Very nice touch.

-food: very wide array of Asian and western food, something for everyone. Each lunch had healthy food section. Only regret: we didn't feel like we were in Indonesia, not enough Indonesian food.

-pool and facilities: we love the all inclusive concept. We really had to manage our schedule to do all we had planned: trapeze, tennis, fitness, yoga, biking, nature walks... Pools are very nice. The sea is dangerous so we didn't swim. But the beach is beautiful, white sand, coconut trees, and private. Picture perfect.

- the staff: this is another thing we love about club med. the service is amazing. Just the right balance between friendliness (genuine) and privacy when needed. The village manager Merlin was very friendly, thoughtful, cheerful although very pregnant. A great thank you to her and her staff.

All in all we highly recommend this place for families.

We just stayed at Club Med Bintan Island. It was a truly fantastic break, relaxing for both parents and kids. Kids club was really well organized, good facilities, careers were excellent. Spa at the resort was also fantastic - I really recommend the 2 hour coconut treatment,

Room Tip: First floor rooms are good. I was in J block, it was a bit of a walk from main area But that was good because it was quiet, no one walking past.

If you have any reservation about staying at Club Med Bintan Island, well… you may just benefit from this as to why you should not!

After much contemplating whether to go with our usual villa at Bali holiday, or do something different, like try Club Med, hey it can’t be all that bad, can it?

My partner and I decided to opt for “something different” and try out Club Med on Bintan Island. We hadn’t really thought about Club Med in the past 25 years of travelling, not knowing too much about the this holiday option except for a preconception that it may be a holiday destination for the masses (with kids) we thought maybe we were jumping to conclusions and should really see for ourselves what a Club Med holiday could be like. Well, if you are a couple looking for a dream holiday destination, where the peace and tranquillity that a beach resort can bring, run, run far away from here and don’t look back.

We arrived on the 5th for a pre-paid five day stay at (AUD) $1,776.00 and booked our exit out of the hotel the very next day back to Singapore with the hope that we could salvage our holiday. I think we were sold a dud with their 50% off marketing ploy thinking that this was going to value for money at half the normal price. I would be even more horrified if this 5 day mistake had cost us over $3,000.

Don’t get me wrong, if you’re looking for a family holiday where your kids can get lost in the hundreds of other kids that are here, then this is place for you!

We took the info tour a couple of hours after arriving, it lasted for 20 minutes and basically told us that we had to line up for this, and line up for that. We could book the “a la carte” restaurant option from 7.00am (first in best dressed). 9.00am for the windserfing, but that was only for the morning sessions, you had to line up after lunch if you wanted the afternoon option. Line up for the bike riding option at 9.00am, (at a different location) and the list went on. Rules, rules, rules, rules.

I am somewhat confused, perhaps it’s me, after reading the other reviews on Trip Advisor you could believe that you will be going to paradise, with or without kids, it’s going to be a great holiday. Fabulous accommodation, never ending buffets of scrumptious food, you wouldn’t be wanting for anything more. Reality, well mine at least is far from this. Mouldy, damp smelling room which we named our night in Alcatraz; the following day was the escape! Bistro quality food, which for mum may be a relief from having to cook for a few days! Apart from that don’t expect much for the tastebuds.

No drinks in your room, except for the one small bottle of water. Don’t forget this is an all-inclusive holiday option. Our $340 per night price tag didn’t warrant the hotel providing any drinks in the room? We were told by the staff, if you want drinks in your room, that it would require a room upgrade. I guess that is one of those rooms which offers more of the “all-inclusive options” but of course it will cost more.

The resort feels old, warn, furniture is basic and bars and restaurants lack any concept other than that of feeding halls. It is a big complex - very big - so there is a lot more run down to look at.

Have I mentioned the kids, there’s hundreds of them. Please, couples heed my advice this place is not for you! This is the most family friendly place I have ever been to. Bravo Club Med, but please don’t market it as anything else. I personally feel that Club Med misrepresented the resort to us.

My one good comment about this experience was the staff who dealt directly with us (Ghazzo and Lee) very professional at all times, and both definitely an asset to this company. This does not include our interaction with the hotel manager Mike who basically turned up when we were leaving to shake our hands – what for?

Fantastic retreat just a stone throw away from busy Singapore. Highly recommended! Michael and his team worked so hard to make us feel so welcome throughout our stay. Great food, fun activities, beautiful beach and awesome entertainments. Our 12 year son told us we should simply go to Club Med Bintan for all our vacations moving forward. Thanks Michael and crew - you guys are amazingly talented and heart-warming! You will see more of us for sure!
