“Beautiful beach, rustic clean cabins.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2011

This is the cheapest way to go the ever growing and ever inflating Bintana Indonesia. It is 100 meters from the beach, with a small road and restaurant/bar in between. The cabins are small and simple but clean and more than adequate. If you are a 5star only with room service this is not the place for you. But for us, more interested in the beach and being outside it was perfect and cheap. At 108 per night it is well worth it and a fair price in my opinion. The staff were all very pleasant and smiling non stop. The beach was clean and water crystal clear. One thing, at the bar on the beach watch out for the local young boys. They target the tourists and separate the men from the women with dancing. Trying to agitate the man, and im sure try to steal in the process. Other than that, it was a great weekend away from Singapore and i suggest it to any nature lovers on a budget. The F&B was a bit pricey, but thats obvious with any resort type place.

Room Tip: Ask for a cabin with a deck. Each cabin has two rooms, one with and one without.

We were worried that it wouldn't be as good as the first time when we booked a holiday in Bintan two years ago, but it was just as good! We loved the beach huts - they are simple but clean with effective air conditioning. I don't believe all the bad reviews for this place because we absolutely love it, but all of us like different things I guess! I will take it as a good thing that some of those people below won't be back because what I love about this place is that there are not too many tourists there. You can always find a quiet space on the beach to yourself (no tar either time we've gone) or a place by the pool. The Japanese restaurant Rin has delicious sashimi and the Keelong restaurant has amazing seafood too. Both have gorgeous settings. The gym is modern, there are electric bikes to hire; ten pin bowling even! I love it here and we'll definately go back. Our friend came with us this time too and he loved it as well.

this is the probably the oldest and definitely the least expensive accommodations in the Nirwana Gardens Resort - the cabanas are basic, but clean and adequate and we didn't come to stay in a hotel room (the rooms will actually sleep 3, have a mini-frig.) We were there on a Monday and Tuesday, and it was very, very quiet, so hard to imagine it when the night club is hopping. The breakfast which was included with the room was fine, but we mostly ate lunch and dinner at other parts of the resort - the best buy was the food court at the resort center - get the whole fish! Cheap and good Indonesian food. There is a free shuttle to take you to other areas of the resort, but most of them are also a very short walk away - with one even sharing the same beach. Water was great - beaches were clean - service was friendly. They let us check in early and there are lockers in the changing room, so you can enjoy the beach after you check out and then shower and change before catching the bus to the ferry. If you are on a budget and want a break from Singapore, this is a great option.

I visited Nirwana beach club in Bintan island during the first week of April. If I coul sum it up, it was brilliant and the best honeymoon destination that could be found. When my spouse had chosen this resort we were a bit apprehensive due to the poor reviews given here. However, the minute we landed in bintan, our whole experience was awesome. Sor we got picked up in a nice A/C coach from the ferry terminal here our luggage was taken care of and delivered to us in the reception of the nirwana beach club. The drive was scenic andbeautiful. We arrived in the resort which was huge an splendid. We were welcomed with a cool drink and asked for our return tickets in order to book a coach for a return trip to the ferry terminal. Perfect!. They kept our ferry tickets and we even forgot about it. The resort itself was beautifula nd serene with the sea looking amazing.
We were transferred to our rooms along with our luggage by a golf cart. For the price we paid SGD110 we got a big room with a private balcony. It was a coittage with complete privacy. The room wasn't very posh but very comfortable and well laid out. Very clean and all essentials present except a phone.
The beach there is the most clean and beautiful I have ever seen. It was almost empty and looked like a private beach. Beach beds, towels etc are given free of cost. White sand, blue water. What more could we want on a honeymoon...........
The beah has a restaurant which allows you to take food and drinks to the beach. It was amazing fun sipping beer and sitting on the beach. Completely clean and safe.
The best part about this place is that its a huge resort and irrespective of which hotel you stay in you have access to all facilities. Hence we got a relaxing and affordable beach massage in Nirwana gardens, spent half a day in the beautiful swimming pool of Nirwana gardens and had excelent sea food. There is a reular shuttle service inside the resort and also all the hotels inside the resort are walkable distances. THe staff is extremely helpful. Food is realy good and not expensive. Free internet conection and bottled water in the rooms. Overall it was the best expereince ever and we have decided to make it our annual vacation spot. Complete bliss @ very affordable rates.............

Room Tip: Must go and enjoy the place.

Spent the weekend (Sunday to Monday) in the so called Beach Club. The room itself was a reflection of time erosion - seems like a set of some lame 80's movie. The aircon doesn't really function and water pressure is extremely low. The bed is horribly seasoned and the stale smell in the room os a major turn off. And I am speaking about the second room given (the first did not have ac working). The place is seriously tired and worn out.

In all, I think you are better off at anywhere else but this 'Beach Club'

Breakfast, though complimentry, was a joke! There was a roach crawling on my rice!

Overall, I strongly advise each and ever

This place is absolutely disappointing. I am very surprised to read all these positive reviews and highly question their authenticity. The biggest problem: The entire beach is smuttered with oil from ships dumping in the nearby waters. According to the staff this is ‘normal because of the direction of the wind and continues for about 6 months a year’ (!). Not that you would think about going swimming after seeing the amount of washed up jellyfish every day. A simple walk on the beach is accompanied by a constant oil smell, and will leave you with tar stuck to your feet or shoes.
We are well familiar with the resort formula: accommodation tends to be less expensive upfront but once you get there you are a little trapped in the resort and end up spending a lot on additional activities and dining. Nirwana Resort tries to take this formula as far as they can. If you book the “supreme room’’ you’ll get a parking-lot-view, with the option to upgrade to ocean view for $50 a night. For lunch and dinner you have a choice between expensive average food ($25 for an average sandwich and soda) and super expensive ($70 to $100 and up pp for Sushi with wine). These are prices I expect at good restaurants in Paris or New York. Not in Indonesia for an average meal. ‘Why didn’t you go out of the resort’ you ask. You are simply not allowed to go anywhere without a driver and every possible escape is super expansive (30USD for a 5 min ride to the golf course next door). We both felt like we were at some Shutter Island/Lost/Hotel California type of place. Someone actually requested this song from the live bank at the ‘party’ Saturday night. With great enthusiasm we sang along… “You can check out any time you want, but you can never leave”.

Stayed at Nirwana beach club over a weekend in March (2 couples).

I had read mixed reviews and I had very low expectations.

It is definitely not the fanciest place on Bintan, but it's a great location for a quiet, chilled weekend break that doesn't feel like a package tour resort.

So it really depends on what you are looking for and how much you're paying for this particular place.

On the plus side:
- the resort is located on the best stretch of beach of the Bintan
- beach and water were spotless clean (I expected murky waters being so close to Singapore, but I was surprised. However, these conditions might be seasonal)
- scattered wooden bungalows on a vast green area give a more laid back experience than bigger developments
- because of low density of rooms on the area, very few guests on a large beach
- water sports available
- room and bathroom were clean, towels and mosquito repellent (thanks!) provided
- I had a deal from a group buying website which made the price reasonable (S$40/pax/night including breakfast, transportation from ferry to resort and back)
- beachfront bar with lounge area, cool to chill out
- nearby seafood restaurant Kelong on the waterfront has excellent seafood and at cheaper prices than other Bintan resorts restaurants

On the minus side:
- rooms are basic and old
- can be noisy on saturday night if your bungalow is too close to the bar
- half of the water sports equipment was not available due to maintenance
- food and drinks at the beach café are overpriced

I will definitely come again if I get a similar deal, but I won't pay the full price for this.
