Gasthus Zur Waldegg or Best Western Hotel Waldegg was our first stopover in our Swiss trip and it was not a great start to the trip. Hotel is located conveniently from the bus stop and is very well connected to Lucerne.

The staff is not the most friendly people you will find in Switzerland. We were given a room on 2nd floor and there was no lift and when we were carrying our heavy luggage, owner was not happy that we were using the stairs which were closer to our room, as the stairs opened at the back of restaurant.

Room was spacious and washroom was also kept very clean. There was a small fridge in the room which came in very handy.

Beyond that there was no internet, as the router was apparently broken during both of our staying days and staff had really limited English vocabulary. Rest of the hotels we stayed in provided us with a Travel adapter but the same was also missing at Gasthus Zur Waldegg.

We found owner to be really arrogant and would not recommend the hotel. In the amount that one spends to stay there one can find better alternatives.

Room Tip: Better to be avoided

The rooms are brand new, with nice cosy decoration and reasonable space. However, there is no air conditioning (surprising given the recent refurb.) and therefore it is not recommended in the middle of the summer. However, the hotel is conveniently located just 4 bus stops from downtown Lucern and the price is reasonable (remember this is Switzerland!). When we arrived we found our room card and key ready for us at the desk, with no reception... the place looks completely empty. No lift, so pack light!

Clean and comfortable room. HOWEVER, there is no lift in the place! There is no air conditioning in the room...which in +30C heat, does not bode well for a 100% comfortable sleep! Bathroom light is on a sensor and while i think this is a good idea in theory, the light continuously turned off while i was in the shower, which meant i had to keep opening the shower door whilst in the shower in order for the light to come back on. Ridiculous! I referred to this place as a 'Ghost Hotel' in my title because there was not one member of staff seen by us at any point throughout our 3 day stay, until we were checking out where there conveniently happened to be a lady there waiting for us to ensure payment etc. I was very disappointed that there was no city map available at the reception, nor could we ask questions about where to visit, places to see, transport etc and other such typical questions. Also the hotel door was locked during the day so when we came back to the hotel after our day out we were effectively locked out. There was a phone number written on a note on the door. I rang it (an international phone call) to ask how we get back into the hotel. I was told to swipe our room card, which was not an obvious solution at first glance. I should not have had to make an international phone call to find this out!!!! Ridiculous!!!! There is zero customer service or human interaction in this place!!!

Room Tip: Its located on a main road so do not take a room at the front of the building.....there is a LOT of noisy traffic gong on!!!
