Though it is not visited as much as the American cemetery in Normandy, this one outside of Saint-James is just as grand and goes to show you that those who lost their lives in WWII are not forgotten. The cemetery grounds are kept immaculate. The staff is readily available to answer questions and assist as needed. The staff has a vast knowledge of the history of the battles in and around the area. Highly recommend asking the staff to visit the top of the tower in the chapel to look out over the country side and take in the cemetery from a bird’s eye view. You can see all the way to Mont Saint Michel from the tower. Well worth a visit.

This cemetery is truly special. A place to reflect on the point where the American forces made their breakthrough from the hedgerow country of Normandy into the plains of Brittany. Quiet, peaceful and beautifully done on a smaller scale than sister cemetery in Normandy. With no crowds, the American staff are anxious to meet with visitors and answer queries. One may even get a chance to visit the top of the tower that has incredible views of the cemetery , local countryside and as far as Mont St. Michel on the coast.

Another well tended Military Cemetery, remembering those who selflessly came to our aid in the 1940s.

Off the beaten track Brittany American Cemetery is an set in the rolling hills and farmfields of Brittany just a short drive through the countryside from Mont St Michel. The Deputy Director, Mr Walter benjamin presents a truly inspirational narative of the service and lives of the men who fought to liberate France in the summer of 1944. A sure highlight of any visit to France.

Make sure you spend time with Benjamin, the new assistant superintendent. This was a highlight of our trip.
