My and husband and I stayed at Pousada Catavento in Early May. Anna and Axel, the owners, are just lovely! So helpful and made us feel so welcome. The breakfast is delightful, the best banana cake! We stayed in low season and there weren't any other guests staying at the same time. In fact, Saquarema was pretty quiet when we were there but I can imagine its got a pretty good vibe in high season. We had a really good stay and I highly recommend this Pousada, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the pousada is located close to a pretty awesome surfing beach- Itauna.

We stayed for two weeks at the Catavento Pousada in January 2009 and loved it.
The place is run by a friendly Brazilian/French couple and it is the ideal place for a relaxing holiday, there is a small bar and restaurant, a swimming pool, games, TV room, garden, plenty of tables and chairs...
The beach is a 5 min walk away and is great for both surfers and families depending wich end of the beach you choose.
Town, ATM, bars, restaurants are also 5 min walk away.
I can only strongly recommand this place for a relaxing holiday a bit off the bitten track, we did meet that many foreign travellers here but it is a popular place for brazilians on hols.

PS Ask Ana for her special caipiriniha...it is to die for

PS this is not a party town so if you are into nightclubs and all night parties you better head for Buzios
