“a peaceful countryside haven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2012

My parents and I were completing the end of a one week Italian road trip and were exceptionally exhausted by the time we found our way to Santa Cristina. We were greeted with a smile by Andrea who could not be any kinder. He went above and beyond throughout our entire stay.

Being mid October, the castle was deserted aside from Andrea, Donatella (what a sweetheart) and the resident dog Wendy. We were the only guests! Andrea took the time to give us a tour of the grounds, the castle (which is not normally open to the guests without a museum booking as the owners live on the grounds, inside the castle) and even drove us into the nearby town for dinner! He made our stay exceptional and really went out of his way to accommodate our little requests, from printing directions to the airport to making breakfast an hour earlier than normal.

Donatella was just a sweetheart and insisted on putting out a huge spread of breakfast every morning even though it was just the 3 of us staying there. We hung out with Wendy, the sweetest dog you'll ever meet and enjoyed a few days of peace and quiet. The cottages are beautiful, big and well equipped with everything you'll need.

We didn't indulge in any of the activities (horseback-riding, snorkeling, etc) but I am sure they would have been a success. If you don't have a car you will have trouble getting to and from the castle, as it's really in the middle of nowhere and there isn't much to eat or do there aside from swimming and these few activities.

It was the perfect place to walk around, read, and relax. The experience was put above and beyond by Andrea and Donatella's genuine, amazing hospitality.

Thank you once again!

I cannot say enough about Castello di Santa Cristina! This place is absolutely beautiful and the surrounding countryside is lovely. The staff is accommodating in every way, from reception, groundskeeper, house cleaner, chef, riding instructor, and owner. We felt like family! The riding both horse and bike were splendid, the room was charming, and the breakfast and dinner amazing. We will be returning again :)

Just returned from a fantastic holiday at Castello di Santa Cristina. Molto grazie Antonello, Cristina, Vicki, Andrea and all the staff, everyone was fantastic, so helpful, it was a delight. Want to eat in or out they will help with arrangements and want to make your stay a pleasure. We stayed in the self catering cottages, but regularly ate at the restaurant. The food was traditional and delicious. The cottages were built for castle staff many years ago, they are quaint but functional, small but delightful nonetheless. There's lots of activities on site, the quality of the horse-riding is excellent. My wife, an expert horse rider enjoyed the hacks, some of our party were novice children and they enjoyed a gentle riding tour. You can play tennis or swim so this is not just for horsey people (I'm not). Situated on the Lazio/Tuscany border it is close to many tourist sites and the sea. Everywhere is a bit of a drive and the roads are never straight, but there is not much traffic in this rural region, so driving isn't a chore.Orvieto is a lovely town to visit nearby, as are many others. The history of the region is absolutely fascinating and intriguing, we would love to go back. We added a night at the end of our trip in Rome, (Open bus tour, Vatican, Colosseum) which was a lovely finish. Bravo e Ciao!!

We had a great week with 3 young adult children . The riding was very well organized and I felt very safe. I learnt alot from the lessons and the hacks out were beautiful in the evening sunshine. the girls enjoyed the lovely clean pool and the sun beds . the tennis was good as was the bike ride with our host. The host family and the whole staff were quite charming making us feel like house guests . The castle is a lovely setting and the small medieval towns in the surrounding are are so unspoiled and of great interest. I shall be returning .

The setting spreaks for itself but the wonder of this place are the hosts Christina and Antonella , the generosity of all working here and the welcome to visitors to share every aspect of the busy farm and equestrian centre . This is a great experience where you can walk, cycle , swim or laze aboout .. cut cherrys from a tree, gather eggs from the hens or read quietly. Great holiday in a wonderful location . And in typical Itlaian style...children are made feel especially welcome .

Room Tip: Ask for self caythering if you can , you have the best of both wporlds...good food in the resea...

A fantastic Castello experience for our family of four. Amazing and peaceful location, well kept pool and grounds, lots to do and see in surrounding area. A real family feel to the whole operation and an interesting tour of the castle was given after drinks and canapes were served on the lawn. If you love horses and riding there are lots of opportunities to get involved in everything from first lessons to hacks. The riding is popular though so do book it in advance of your arrival. We had an amazing family holiday here and enjoyed the family run feel of the business and the way the owners were so involved. Would recommend a trip to the picturesque village of Pitigliano, the thermal spa at Saturnia and kayaks, pedalos etc at Capodimonte. We also enjoyed the lunchtime trip organised to a local lake so would recommend taking that up if offered. We had a enjoyable sailing trip on nearby Lake Bolsena which can be organised for you by the Castello staff. A week was not enough!

Room Tip: We loved Firenze - three spacious bedrooms with shutters so some great sleeping hours put in!
