Our stay here was brief but great. We lucked out and somehow managed to get one of the largest room in the place. This was in late September during the off-season but still. On the 3rd floor we had a private balcony with 3 large swivel windows that enclosed it. Our room also had a murphy-style bunkbed over a small sitting area, though we didn't have any use for it. Otherwise the room was rather simple but good enough for everything we needed.

The biggest plus was the view! All rooms on the front side have a magnificent view of the Dolomites. It was the best in the morning as the sun rises behind you and the light reflects off the mountains. It was a 10-15 walk down to the ski lift to go up the mountain and about 5-10 minutes to the cable car that takes you down to the base.

The rest of the hotel seemed average. Our dinner included in the half-board was decent, not great. Breakfast was good. The place was clean. They also had a bar and a swimming pool, but we didn't use either. Overall very good for the price. I would stay here again.

Room tip: 3rd floor rooms facing the front have amazing views of the mountaints with a private balcony

We stayed here for 3 nights, with half-board. The room was comfortable, with a deck overlooking the meadow. Staff was friendly, and the breakfast and dinners were excellent. Able to hike everywhere from here. Nice swimming pool also.

We stumbled upon this lodge in Summer 2014 and used it as our base for two days of hiking in the area. It is simple, clean and reasonably priced. Not fancy; it is a ski lodge essentially. The food is ample and simple. We really enjoyed our stay last year and I just made reservations for another trip this August. If you are there to hike, this place will work well for you.

Room tip: Our room looked to the west and it was gorgeous.

Good value. Nice european family atmosphere. I got the impression that people come to this all-inclusive hotel year after year. There were several older generation people, and a few people with families. They cater to the italian-speakers, not german and certainly not english. I didn't hear any other english at Piccolo. My italian language skills are sub-par, but they tried their best to communicate in english, for which we were thankful. Ambiance was quiet, subdued, not loud.

We had a nice west-facing view, with cowbells gently dinging in the summer night. Easy walk from the tram, and many guests seemed to drive up. Dogs seem to be welcome.

Meals were simple, hearty european fare, not fancy, but welcome after hiking a long day, or before setting out for a nice day. Dinner/adult beverages cost extra, will be added to your bill.

They had to do some digging to provide wifi code, since typically you have to enter an italian phone number to surf. But you're not up there to surf, so forgive the spotty service, put down your device, and start hiking!

Overall, we'd recommend Piccolo Hotel Sciliar for a good value up in Dolomiti country.

Room tip: west side seems to have more of a view, since it's on the west side of Compatsch village. East side seems like you'd be looking at other hotels the whole time.

We arrived at the end of August and were in the area to do three days of day hikes in the Alpe di Siusi area. My review is based on being in the area in summer as conditions and bus connections may be different in other seasons. The hotel is located in Compatsch, Italy among of group of other hotels at the upper end of the cable car cableway that runs up from Siusi. There are numerous well-signed trails leading out from Compatsch. There is also a frequent bus to Saltria at the far end of Alpe di Siusi from Compatsch and also bus service to Castelrotto down near the lower terminus of the cable cars. We were traveling without a car and had no problem walking to the hotel that was a 5-minute walk from the cable car station. Since neither of us spoke Italian or German an apprehension of our stay at the hotel was how well we could communicate with the staff that mainly do not speak English. We booked about 4 months in advance by email. To make the reservations I used the “Google Translate” service on the web to use the correct wording to send my reservation request in Italian and to translate the response. When we arrived at the hotel, check-in went well using some rehearsed Italian and we were asked to select our entrees for dinner (from a choice of three) and dessert since the hotel was providing our breakfast and dinner. It was a little confusing choosing since we did not recognize the choices, which were only listed in Italian, and German but we were able to make a choice. Each day we were given new selections to choose from. Our room was very nice; good sized with fair sized bath and small shower, adequate closet space, TV and free wifi. It had a very nice closed balcony sitting area with a view of the Sciliar peaks. It was very quiet, partly because cars are generally banned from Compatsch except for arriving and departing. We were assigned a 7:30 seating for dinner in the hotel restaurant. Dinner was served in courses with buffet for salad and vegetable/potato dishes. Wine, beer and bottled water were available for extra charge. Overall the food was very good. Breakfast was buffet style with various styles of coffee from a machine and choices of cereals, fruits, breads, eggs and bacon, all quite good. The room was cleaned daily. Overall it was a good choice of hotel for us and excellent value. We would stay there again.
