“Newly renovated, friendly staff at the heart of the Seiser Alm/Alpe de Suisi”
Reviewed August 5, 2014

My family and I have been coming here for years and nearly changed venue this year but we are so glad we did not. Hotel Floralpina has undergone renovations and new building and has super-friendly new management (Christoph, thank you!) (it was the unfriendly manager 5 years ago that put us off). There is a great choice of rooms to suit different pockets and family sizes, indoor and outdoor pools, jacuzzi, sauna and child free wellness area. The food has jumped up a step since our last visit five years ago and the new chef has his eye on the ball, playing with tradition, Italian food and modernity.
Of course what makes the Floralpina unique is it's location, in a few minutes walk of the chair lift Florian Telecabin it is right in the heart of the the UNESCO world heritage site that the Seiser Alm (High Alpine meadow) is. Only the TIrler can compete for location but that is ten minutes walk further way from the Florian. You can literally walk out the door and out onto the footpaths or sneak off to the Florian and catch a head start up the mountains. There are many hutte in walking distance for lunch and the dinner is always ready for you in the evening. We will be back. Pretty much my idea of heaven.

Room Tip: I used to think that the rooms facing West were better with afternoon sun, but this year while I op...

What we enjoyed most at this hotel was the spa. It was not big but they had a pool, saunas and spa services as well as a relaxing area which we took advantage of after a long day's hike. My room was reasonable albeit a bit small and I found it difficult to find anywhere to put my suitcase without causing a movement problem. The bathroom was also small. the view from the window was beautiful though.
The restaurant was pleasant, both at breakfast and dinner and the food quite a good standard. The location was good for hiking but there is nothing within a walkable distance, to do in the evenings.

Even after our fourth visit to this beautiful hotel, we are convinced that this is certainly not the last time. The super-position of the hotel in the ski area, the nice hotel, the superb wellness and especially the friendly staff makes this hotel a perfect destination for a fantastic winter sports.

This hotel is up in the Alpe de Siusi, the upland pasture above the Val Gardena. It's a large hotel with comfortable rooms, an outdoor pool (too cold in September!) and a spa with pool in the basement. Breakfast and dinner were good quality. The staff in the restaurant are very professional and friendly; sadly, the staff on reception are not quite so friendly. There is no Internet access here - not for guests, that is.
You should also know that car access to the Alpe di Siusi is very restricted. If you are staying at the hotels (there are a couple of others) you can drive in on your first arrival at any time via Compatsch; you need to show the foresters your reservation. Once there, you cannot drive in or out during the middle part of the day. In fact we drove in on a track from S Cristina, not really realising that this is not strictly allowed! However, there is a frequent bus service to Compatsch.
It rained quite a bit during our stay, but the pool and spa gave us something active to do.
