“Sunshine and Sea”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

We have just spent 7 days at the Acquamarina, and had an enjoyable stay, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was very clean and the location of the hotel could hardly be better, there is good off road parking, and lots of terrace space overlooking the sea, the roof terrace, where one has breakfast or an evening drink is very fine.
The breakfast selection was very good, especially if you like cake, and the coffee was excellent.
In the direction of Donnalucata, which is 5 minutes away, there is an area of sun loungers and from there, it is a few paces to a very slowly sloping beach of the finest sand.
What could be better, not alot, the internet is one area which could be improved, and the restaurant, which serves reasonable food, could be better, if they split the rather large room into sections, it would give a bit more atmosphere, especially when the place is nearly empty, the evening we ate there, the staff seemed uninterested.
I would highly recommend this hotel, and there are plenty of ok restaurants nearby, go to Scicli and try the Osteria at the end of the big square, first floor with an outdoor terrace and marvelous food.
Finally, have an Aperol at the roof top terrace at Acquamarina and watch the sun go down, memorable.

Modern hotel a little bit out from Donnalucata. 5-10 minute walk to centre of town along the main coastal road (with no pavement) and then beachfront.

Clean, light, big room, nice sea view and excellent shower. Inconvenience was a smell of drains coming in from outside, and in the bathroom, at certain points. Not all the time.

Upstairs breakfast room and bar terrace great place for apéritif and watching the sunset, over the sea, with beverages and snacks (crisps, olives, toasted sandwiches, ...). Breakfast, on this same terrace, was very good with fresh fruit, juices, lots of different pastries, good coffee, yogurt, cereals, toast, ...

Terraces on 1st and 3rd floor for lounging or sunbathing.

Private lawn area with parasols and lounges on edge of rocky coast for sunbathing and relaxing. The sandy beach, for swimming entrance, is 2-5 minute walk down the coast. The water is extremely shallow to very far out from the beach. Long distance swimming would be difficult. There were snorkelers and divers out on the rocks and there are lots of fish to see.

There is no swimming pool. Lots of parking spaces right next to the hotel.

WiFi never worked for our 2 day stay and we were very pleased, once again, to have rented a 3G hotspot from Hertz when we rented our car.

We ate at the restaurant, downstairs, one night. We would not recommend it: very industrial, touristy fare and not very good.

I have spent only (very unfortunately) a night in this enticing hotel and I have longtime hesitated to write, as it is my custom, a review. In fact, there is nothing to add to the previous positive appreciations submitted in this regard. What else to say : if you are looking for a charming, well-run and managed hotel in one of the most beautiful parts of Sicily, well you have found it. It is strategically situated in the Baroque valley, two inches away from the gorgeous Mediterranean sea, the staff is overwhelmimgly nice, friendly and efficient. Further, Donnnalucata is still a genuine and authentic village of southern Sicily: utmost relax. Beware: do book in advance!!

We had a room facing out to sea with a small balcony. It is a great hotel very clean and modern. Location is right on the beach. There is plenty of onsite parking and the staff were very helpful. Wonderful scenes and very enjoyable.

Came across this hotel as we were entering the town of
Donnalucata, Sicily. Many hotels were closed along the way so we didn't want another late night looking for a good hotel/B&B. The Acquamarina looked good, very clean lobby, nice decor.
The front desk staff was very friendly, tried their best to speak some English, although very limited.
Internet is through a internet gate, often sporadic in our room, I had to walk into the hallway area to get a workable signal on several occasions. Still a little was better than nothing.
Breakfast was served on the 3rd. floor terrace, overlooking the sea, very nice! Good coffee selection, and the usual Italian buffet breakfast, a good start for your day.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the sea are better, no traffic sounds as the hotel is on the main road into th...

The beach nearby looked vey nice although at the end of may it could use some cleaning.

Our room was
Overlooking the see and the each and was really clean and nice.

The only downside is - the cleaning lady was trying to enter our room all the time while we were there and they brought a
Guy to fix some things in the bathroom and really insisted to do it while we were in the room.
The shower corner was somewhat small and was difficult to turn around also looked like it was not part of the renovation plan.

Overall - nice place that could use some room services improvement.

I loved staying at this modernized hotel with its marine theme a l' Italiano. The front desk staff was very friendly and spoke English which helped me access the local customs leading up to Easter and its ancient processions and culture in the area, as Italian is the ever present language. The attached restaurant served locals nightly and I had the best food both times, along with fluttering attentive waiters. Seafood is expensive but well presented, and the more affordable oven baked pizza divine. The breakfast terrace overlooking the sea is fantastic and the decor inventive and original. The food was varied in taste, both savoury and Sicilian sweet. Local drains are somewhat decrepit however and the maids have their work cut out for them, but the ever present orange blossoms on the sea breeze more than compensated along with the hedges of brilliant wildflowers everywhere along the roadsides.
