Friends and I enjoyed a terrific 'girls getaway" in Clare & Maryann's wonderful farmhouse at La Pianella. The interior is tastefully furnished and thoughtfully designed for your comfort and convenience. The upstairs sitting area is a particular delight with large windows with 2 Juliet balcolnies showcasing the magnificent view of the beautiful Tuscan hills. The grounds and swimming pool are beautifully landscaped and cared for by Enzo while Donatella, the property manager, put together a lovely Prosecco and appetizer party for our group and other guests. Highly recommended!
Great accommodation surrounded by olive trees with amazing views down the valley. Very comfortably furnished and well equipped with all that you'd need for a perfect self-catering holiday. There are many areas within the property where one can sit and relax, including a lovely lounge and superb mezzanine. The bedrooms are all comfortably furnished with plenty of space; the bathrooms all included a good selection of toiletries.
Outside the property provides a fantastic pool with a large lawned area to sit or play. There are plenty of sun loungers and relaxing pool-side chairs to make the most of the sunshine and views - there are also parasols to provide shade around the pool and the outside dining area.
On arrival we found an exceptional welcome basket containing a wide variety of fruit a couple of bottles of wine and, best of all, olive oil from the La Pianella Estate.
The local team that look after the property were extremely attentive and helpful. Whilst we were there we had a problem with the fridge-freezer but this was quickly resolved within a couple of hours - exceptional service with a high focus on the needs and comfort of guests.
Access to the property from the village is via a narrow, winding road and whilst this was a little daunting at first we soon got used to it even with a 8-seater van.
The village of San Martino in Freddana includes a well stocked supermarket, an ice cream parlour and bakery - all just a short drive from the villa.
During our week long holiday we visited Lucca, a lovely historic city, with plenty of places of interest and restaurants/cafes. In addition, we caught a train from Lucca to Pisa to enjoy visiting the famous Leaning Tower and other beautiful buildings on this historic sight.
We would highly recommend this farmhouse villa.
We had the absolutely delightful experience of being able to book the entire Villa for a joint 70th birthday party for one of our friends (they had booked the entire Farmhouse as well).
The Villa is absolutely gorgeous. It is newly renovated and has enough bathrooms and bedrooms to comfortably accommodate all 8 of us. The kitchen has all the latest amenities and brings the modern comforts of the 21st century to the rural, historic Tuscan countryside. The view is spectacular of the gorgeous Tuscan hills, and the swimming pool is heaven!
We had breakfast every morning in the beautiful sitting room (which has great views) and lunch on the terrace. Afternoons were spent lounging by the pool to prepare for amazing meals either at the Villa or in one of the nearby restaurants.
We went into Lucca on several occasions- it is nearby- and also spent time walking in the surrounding hillside. The hospitality was so warm, and whole experience was truly magical. We will be back!
We had an amazing week here and would highly recommend. The villa and pool are amazing and in the perfect location to explore the local area. We had 4 adults and 2 kids on our trip and we had loads of space. 2 of the guests were from New Zealand and we wanted to make sure they for the full Italian experience and that's exactly what they got in this amazing spot.
When we could drag ourselves away from the pool we visited Florence on the train from Lucca (about an hour) and also the local beaches. We went to Lucca several times (20 min away) and cycled around the wall and had some lovely meals in there. We loved the Galatea at the bottom of the hill as well. Could have easily done 2 weeks here and explored Sienna and Pisa. We used the pizza oven and had great fun making pizzas one night which were just amazing. The local supermarket had all the bits we needed.
But best of all we loved having Donatella cook for us around the pool. We had 2 amazing meals prepared by her and she was so much fun and helpful with arranging things to do. Donatella even helped get a bag returned to us from the airport which was amazing. Nothing was too much trouble and the fruit and wine on arrival was lovely!
We will be back and thanks to a great holiday.
Well equipped and very beautifully located farmhouse villa with splendid views on the surrounding hills. Very quiet and peaceful with everything you need in close proximity. Cities Lucca an Pisa easily reachable for a day trip.
The last 1,5 km drive up to the house is a steep and narrow road, not ideal to drive on. This is the only downside however, everything else is just great.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Pianella farmhouse. It had all the comforts of home and the most beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The pool was the perfect temperature and had plenty of seating. The roads were hilly and very curvy though so we opted to not drive on our own. Andrea runs an excellent car service that took us on trips to the hilltop villages of San Gimignano and Volterra along with a day trip to Cinque Terre. Donatella cooked a very filling meal featuring typical Tuscan cuisine. The only slight inconvenience was the lack of air conditioning, however the fans provided helped to keep the house cool enough. And if you really get too hot you can always jump in the pool!
wonderful villa, VERY helpful staff. A perfect family holiday...a much needed relaxing holiday ....even with 2 under 2!
Lucca is a gem.....cycling is a must .....you appreciate the ice cream even more!
Pizza oven was a great bonus...sea water pool was heaven!
