“Excellent holiday accommodation on a fantastic island”
Reviewed October 3, 2013

Very hospitable hosts, Soula Chris and Jimmy were very welcoming and helped us to have a great holiday, the cleaning staff were hard working and cheery, the pool area was clean and modern, the hotel was set in beautiful surroundings, it is about 15-20ins walk to beach but the walk is lovely as road is line with fruit and olive trees and lots of chickens running about the hotel is charming with beautiful view of mountains,
Lovely restaurants in area .. all good but KoyKoynari (I think ) situated on the road walked to night life was excellent, road delicious and staff lovely, The Astari restaurant on the beach has fab food and a smashing beach waiter Vladimar who works hard to keep customers happy, lovely Greek ladies on beach to offer massage on sun lounger,a fab island, met lovely people who were very welcoming, highly recommended

Room Tip: Ask for a room with pool and mountain view,

I am not the same Rachel p in the other review.

We stayed for 2 weeks from:28/8/13 -11/9/13
I would highly recommend to stay at the Alykes Garden Village.
Studios was nice & clean. Had bedding & towel changed every other day,
Gorgeous well kept pool & gardens.

We met some lovely people whilst staying there who come back year after year.
If you drive make sure to take your license & hire a bike or Quad as it is a fair walk to the Beach/Center.
For dining we recommend The Pitta Break, Awesome Gyros & a lovely waiter :)
Also the New Pine Cone restaurant on the way to the center is a must, Lovely food!
The center had some nice places to eat.
We didn't go for a boozing holiday so didn't really do the pub scene, But we did have some Good nights out at The Iris Bar(Quiz Night's Wednesday) it also has a mini golf coarse.

We would also recommend going on the train to the museum & booking the Greek night,
We had a great night! If you go on the trip to see the Shipwreck please take swim shoes or risk loosing your flip flops..

We would like to thank Jimmy,Soula & Chris for a pleasant & enjoyable stay ..
All in all we had a lovely time here & will definitely be returning in the near future!

Robert & Rachel Pearson

Room Tip: As far away from the bar as you can Lol, It can be really noisy some night's

We stayed here last week for our honeymoon. Where do I start an an amazing welcome from a very hospitable family who will go more than the extra mile for you! Nothing is too much for them. The rooms aee immaculate and cleaned everyday! Food is prepared when ordered and delicious! So much of a fantastic holiday weve booked again for next year! Wouldnt stay Anywhere else! Highly recommend this place because once you have stayed here you wont want to go anywhere else! Family run apartments and they make you part of their family when you stay.

After booking with Thomas cook to stay at the Nikos apartments and walking out of them after day 3 (see my review about Nikos) we were forced to find somewhere else to stay and came across these apartments. I spoke to the owner Jimmy who showed me 2 rooms in the apartment block and could not believe how bright and clean they were (stayed in 302)the grounds are very well kept and loads of sunbeds around pool area. Nothing was to much trouble with Jimmy and his sister found them very upfront about everything and very helpful even to the point of driving us to the airport when it was time to leave ! I understand you cannot please everyone all the time but was shocked to read the 2 negative reviews before this .Jimmy turned our holiday from bad to good would I stay there again 100% yes, i am looking into booking direct with him so they are getting my money and not Thomas cook.

I must start with a reply to the 2 extremely rude reveiws published by "Dissapointed stay" & "Crystal clear".A 2 week stay does not cost 40 euros for the safe & the air con does not cost 75 euros.! Factualy you are wrong,as the prices you quoted are not correct.I have stayed here twice now and our bed & breakfast was very nice and a choice of a minimum of 5 cereals if you didn`t want full english .(you only had to ask).I have stayed in the new block and the old block & I know its not the "RITZ" but the old block has character and also "hot water"We have had no problems with towels being changed, rooms being cleaned, sheets being changed, etc etc..If you had a problem you only had to mention it to any member of the family and it was done.!Our tv had no sky channel and Jimmy came and re- tuned it within minutes. Our hot water was cold ,fixed within an hour as a pipe had broken. The family cannot do enough for you to ensure your stay is a relaxing one. We used a blanket to prop up our pillows and next day without asking the cleaners had given us an extra pillow.Ask yourself a few questions,1/why do so many people return?2/why are there only a few negative reports?namely the 2 mentioned. The family are far from rude! and it is unfair to mention them.if you are expecting all inclusive etc..then go to a 5 star hotel If you want a piece of Greek hospitality then this is your place.Cannot fault Alykies Garden Village.

Room Tip: if you are a light sleeper ear plugs are a good tool as cockerells are very active early in the morn...

Stayed for 2 weeks this August, after reading the great reviews thought it must be good, Cannot fault the look of the hotel itself, however have to say Owners were a nightmare wanting Money for everything. Our impression of the owners is that they are controlling and greedy.

Within 5 minutes of arriving we were taken to our room which was pretty good, we were then asked for 40 Euros for the key to the safe that was in our room.

We were then asked for 75 Euros for the aircon in the room to be switched on.

Extortionate prices for everything, a complete rip off.

You even have to pay to use the pool table in the bar area.

Did not have one hot shower in two weeks, water was luke warm everyday at best. The floor of our our apartment was filthy.

We were asked for various amounts of money for the same items in the mini supermarket on site. We booked Bed and Breakfast and were looking forward to a bit of choice, only to find that the choice was full English breakfast or English breakfast with some of its ingredients taken out. No Fruit, No Feta Cheese or Ham, No Olives no Rolls or Choice of Bread. No Cakes, God Help you if you are Veggie. Asked if there was a cereal as was sick of beans on toast and fried eggs after 10 days only to be told that the only cereal was rice crispies. Milk smelt like it was going off.

When one of our party did not eat the whole breakfast we were questioned why we had ordered food and not eaten it.

We found the staff to be rude and unfriendly and would not book there again.

Having read all the good reviews we decided to book, unfortunately, the room we were allocated ( room 7) in the older block was quite shabby and dated, water marks on the walls and the bathroom was awful, a chipped old mirror, and the shower tray filled up and overflowed if you ran the water for more than a minute, had to wash my hair in the sink or we were wading through water. If I turned the electric ring cooker on then it would take the power out of the whole block, we told various family members about this every day but nothing was done during our stay except for a lesson by Jimmy's mother showing me how to turn the knob of the cooker in the 'correct way' implying that it was my fault ! Towels and sheets were only changed once during our stay. I believe that the good reviews are given by the people in the new block, and perhaps if we had one of those rooms I would be writing a good review now, repeat guests seem to be allocated the better rooms but unfortunately we shall not risk staying there again. On checking in the owner Jimmy told us that they were absolutely full, all the rooms were booked - so no point in complaining !

Do ask the price first if you buy an ice cream/lolly from the freezer by the bar, we were charged 7 euros for 2 magnum lollies ! On the plus side, the pool area is nice, and the gardens are lovely and well maintained.
You may want to take a torch to flash for the walk back from the village at night as there are a few blind bends where the cars come around fast, there are a few pavements but not on the bends. Do try the Pine Cone Restaurant (Kourounaria) on the way down to the village on the left hand side, it is excellent, it is a new family business, mum does the cooking, everything we had was superb !
We loved Alykes and had a great holiday, just a shame about the room.
