“best holiday - best choice for honeymoon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2013

If you are planning to go to Ikaria (well you must!) Armenistis should be the village that you choose (best beaches are on this area, and armenistis is one of the biggest villages in the island. ) and Toxotis Villas must be the place to stay. Me and my wife spent our honeymoon in here and it was just heavenly perfect. We were so happy during our vacation. Our room was confortable and clean. The view was amazing. It was unforgettable to have your breakfast with that view. It is so quite and calm. There is nothing to wake you up. Clean bathroom and kitchen. You can find almost everything in the kitchen that you need. The pool is pretty nice, water is salty btw which i like. i guess it is sea water but i never asked to the managers. Well i also want to thank to Eleni and Kostas who are the managers/owners of the place. They were so helpfull, friendly and kind. We are definatly thinking to go back to Toxotis next year with our friends this time.

Toxotis villas is a very nice place to relax and to have as a base to go back to when you are touring around beautiful island Ikaria. The houses are nicely build on a great location with sea view and every morning we enjoyed breakfast on our veranda. The service is good, rooms are cleaned regularly and the staff is helpful. We had a great time on Blue Zone island Ikaria. C+D

If you are visiting Ikaria island, look no further. Toxotis Villas is a band new establishment, with good views of the Aegean sea and a wonderful pool. Villas are excellently built, clean and in-room breakfast is great. Personnel is very kind and accommodating. A car is definitely recommended.

Room Tip: no reason to bother. they are all very nice :)

Toxotis may be the reason why people will begin to discover where Ikaria is. No pretense, just perfection. The rooms were very clean and gorgeous. The pool was amazing and immaculate (extremely clean). The option to use local ingredients to make your own breakfast was awesome! Our honeymoon was unforgettably beautiful. Thank you to all staff at Toxotis! Loved it! Can't wait to go back.

We are dedicated fans of Greece, especially the islands. We have had wonderful times in many appartments, hotels or private rooms but Toxotis has been our premium experience so far. The young couple running the place are first and always focused on quality and this shows in every detail.

The "hotel" (it is more a group of houses with one appartment in each) is very nice to look at, beautifully copying the original building style of the island. Rooms are spacious and really well equipped, very good furniture, very good beds, TV with good international connection, veranda and/or balcony and absolutely everything is of high quality. They have a nice homepage on the internet, check the pictures and see for yourself. We had the opportunity to see the inside of most of the houses - the pictures in the net are authentic.

Bathroooms is another aspect - in most appartments in Greece they are pretty basic. Perfectly fine to have a shower or brush your teeth but not much above that. Toxotis is different, their bathrooms have style and quality and you can have a shower without flooding the bathroom. As a fan of Greek islands I am perfectly happy whith the standard bathroom style but I have to admit that I enjoy the Toxotis luxury when I am in Armenistis.

The most impressive aspect of this hotel is the love of the owners for detail. The water tanks for hot water which are ever present in Greece and which are usually pretty ugly to look at are hidden behind "camouflage" structures. The naming of each appartment is based on Ikarian history. The stones covering the outside of the houses have been handpicked by the owner in the Ikarian mointains. An old style wine making equipment is installed at the place (still used by the owners) and you can find old-fashioned beehieves (don't worry, those are no longer in use). Just ask the owners for a quick tour around the place. Each bed looks towards a window in the roof - shaded during daytime, but if you are romantic you can open the shades in the evenig and see the stars from your bed during nighttime. The inside of every appartment is designed in original ways and some of them even have original fireplaces. Everything is designed as original as possible but offering the most possible quality for visitors. In case you are looking for a really really nice place to stay and enjoy in Armenistis, Toxotis is your best and only choice!

The Service in Toxotis is perfect. Rooms are cleaned dayly, towels are changed regular, personal is friendly and ready to address wishes of the visitors.

Breakfast can be taken in the tavernas of Armenistis but we always took the version of Toxotis. They load your fridge with everything necessary for a really nice breakfast and you just prepare it yourself. Every appartment has a perfectyl equipped kittchen, so preparing breakfast is easy going. After that just follow your taste - have your breakfast inside on a nice table or outside in the Greek sun.

Some comments about Armenistis and Ikaria. In case you are looking for action, clubs, etc. do NOT go to Armenistis, as a matter of fact do not go to Ikaria. If you are looking for shopping opportunities - well, the same advice. BUT if you are looking for a place to relax - nice, calm and to some degree still "original Greece", well than Toxotis in Armenistis is THE place to go.

The hotel is slightly out of the village (easy walking distance) looking directly to the sea, or more to the point the lowest houses are almost bordering the sea. It is really quiet - I used to sit outside late in the evening with a nice wine from Samos and the number of motor bikes on the road behind the hotel was much much lower than the number of fishing boats passing the hotel in the sea below. In case you have experience with other Greek islands and the ever present and noisy Greek scooters - you will hardly encounter them arround Toxotis, the place is really really quiet!

Distance to the next beach is walking distance and even if you want to go to the biggest beach in Armenistis region you can walk (30 minutes). Driving with a car is also an option, the traffic is no problem and parking space is available. The beaches are beautiful, broad with white soft sand a clear sea to swim. Some areas have stones but it is easy to find a soft entry. Off season the beaches are next to empty, so finding a private spot is no problem. For families, a river ends close to one of the beaches (just does not make it to the sea in summer time) and there are turtles in the river that are usually quite keen to be fed. For us it was a nice competition - how far wiil a turtle go from the water in order to reach your bread.

Apart from beaches - well there are woods in Ikaria. Some places actually look a little bit like a mediterranean "German Black Forest". For hiking you will find a lot of nice places and Ikaria is in many places not as barren as Paros or Mykonos.

The number of tavernas is quite limited but they are good and pretty original. In Armenistis we prefer Delphini which is a rather small place close to the sea. Food is very authentic Greek with nice starters and good main dishes. They change their menu - best to ask the waiter for the offer of the day. Delphini uses fish directly from the Aegean sea and meat from their own animals, something that is pretty special today. We always enjoyed dinner there, relaxed atmosphere, very good food, nice and polite people and the sea washing ashore just below your table. The place is also frequented by locals (always a good sign), especially for special occasions like birthdays. Since the people of Ikaria are very open you may even be integrated to some degree into such an occasion. Our second favorite place is "Anna" in Nas (first taverna right hand in the next village). The lady running the place still invites guests into the kittchen to have a look at pots and plates, quite usual in Greece some decades ago. Anna still runs her place in that way since "people eat more if they see my food" - I have to agree with her, based upon my own experience.

If you travel to Ikaria by ferry boat make sure you go to the port of Evdilos and not to Agios Kirikos. The ferries run an alternating schedule to both ports and the ride to Toxotis from Evdilos is just 30 minutes, from Agios Kirikos it is about 2 hours 30 minutes through the mountains. Since the ferry arrives usually around 7 pm in either port, dinner is going to be late if you are beached in Agios Kirikos. Make sure that a rental car is waiting for you at the port, Toxotis will organise this in a reliable way. You can also go by plane (much faster, a little bit more expensive than the ferry); again you will need a car and again you will need about 2.5 hours but since the plane arrives around noon it is rather a pleasant drive that gives you a first impression of the island. Supposedly Ikaria is crowded in July and August (never been there at that time myself) but May, June and September are perfect months to be there.

Room Tip: We have been at Toxotis 3 times already and we used 3 different rooms - all have an identical qualit...

We stayed here for our honeymoon in August and had great time. Wonderful location, great island, nice beach nearby, and perfect weather. And great pool as well. Could hardly have been any better. Can recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a relaxing time on this beautiful island.

It doesn't really get much better than this. Spent two lovely weeks, one in each of the tow biggest houses. Lovely pool and a panorama that is the second best I've seen anywhere. North Cape being the best. Peace and quiet, a chance to reload the batteries. Out three boys where very happy, one of them even learned to swim thanks to the pool.
