the hotel smari is a fab Little hotel about half hour from the city centre breakfast good self service the only thing it could be kept warmer is the by the use of a Bain Marie instead on candles. rooms fab either too hot or too cold no happy medium but not a big issue plenty of pillows fab staff couldn't do enough for us as when we were there it snowed like never before as you can see in pics so we were snowed in for 2 out of 3 days not hotels fault but all in all fab hotel great value for money great helpful staff what more do you need

Very friendly personnel, ordering a taxi for you swiftly if you need one and good wifi, but hotel is next to a large road and you hear every car driving by, no hair dryer available and shower water tab is stuck so hard to switch on/off and colder/warmer. No special glutenfree and dairy free products available: I was happy that there were eggs and hoped the bacon was OK.

I've been to better places.

Our first night in Reykjavik in July.
It was fairly hot, and windows could not be opened.
The black out curtains were not very useful - remember your sleeping mask.
The hotel is situated on the highway between Reykjavik and Keflavik

Room Tip: Get an uneven room number away from the highway and the noise

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Smari after booking through a third party vendor. While it wasn't our first choice, we enjoyed the amenities offered and was a good choice for our price point. The rooms are not large (but that's not unusual in Iceland, so I've been told) but were comfortable and more than met our needs as a place to rest after exploring the country. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. It's a bit of a distance from Reykjavik if you are car-less but my wife and I took advantage of the citypass (unlimited bus rides) and found the buses to be more than adequate to get downtown. It was nice that the hotel was a pickup point for all the tours we used and that they were in quick contact with the tour company for confirmation and booking purposes. The traditional breakfast included with our reservation was a nice touch. Nothing fancy but filling and a good starting point for a day of exploring Iceland. Only downside was the presence of hordes of British teens and pre-teens that were very loud at all hours of the day (did they ever sleep?). This was not the hotel's fault by any means but might be a good idea to let chaperones know to keep the youngsters in check. Would recommend this hotel as a solid value for anyone who is not spending a ton of time in downtown Reykjavik. Also, don't be afraid to check out a few of the restaurants nearby. Oddly located in a business district but some nice options.

Room Tip: Tell front desk if you are having issues with noisy guests.

We stayed at Hotel Smari as part of our holiday package. The breakfast was amazing. There were Danish pastries, cereals, bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, porridge. Ham, cheese, peppers, tomatoes. Different breads. Orange juice, tea, coffee. They even did a lunch pack if you were going out on trips at an extra cost. The rooms were clean, bed ok.
Stefan the manager was the most helpful person we met, nothing was too much trouble.
Only downside was the hotel was a little out of the centre of Reykjavik but it didn't stop us, we just used the local transport.
We would stay there again.
