“Great budget hotel”
Reviewed September 14, 2009

I booked via Expedia for $116 per night which is what one normally should expect to pay for a 3 star accommodation in the shoulder season. A tad expensive for what you get, but Iceland isn’t cheap to begin with.
The hotel is located in the outskirts of Reykjavik, in the Smaralind area, right next to a few shopping plazas and Iceland’s largest mall (which is relatively small). It’s about 40km from Keflavik airport, driven mostly on Highway 41. You can actually see the hotel on your left while driving on the highway so you have to make a U turn to get on the other side of the road.
We arrived around midnight and I had concerns that the reception desk would be closed, however I was pleasantly surprised that the receptionist was still waiting for us. Check in was fast and easy.
The room was smallish, and so was the bathroom and quite basic (for example – you get plastic cups instead of glasses), but relatively new and very very clean.
Breakfast was basic, but good.
Internet connectivity in your room (wireless) costs the Icelandik Krona equivalent of 4.5Euro for 24hrs.
Overall, I recommend as a budget accommodation choice in Reykjavik.

Stayed here for a week with my two teenagers on a last minute trip to Iceland. This is a modern, Travelodge style hotel situated on a business unit estate near a large shopping centre in the suburbs of Reykjavik. Don't be put off by this hotels location as it is ideal for anyone on a moderate budget or those looking for a short stay prior to travelling further around the island.
Our room was spacious and modern with a great bathroom and was absolutely immaculate throughout as indeed was the rest of the hotel. There were no tea and coffee making facilities in the room but a hot water machine was available downstairs 24/7. The only extra in the room was a TV which does show a few English channels. Super comfy beds and bedding which was changed during our stay.
Breakfast was very good with a simple selection of fruits, meats, cereals, breads etc together with a good choice of hot and cold drinks (great coffee!). The staff are extremely accommodating and will happily help you with requests for flasks or travel information.
A bus stop is situated a 5 min walk away which will take you in to the city centre (20 min, cost 280 Krona or 100 Krona under 18) and is very straightforward. We found that most tour companies would collect you direct from the hotel but we frequently opted to be returned from trips direct into the centre to eat and then caught the bus back to the hotel afterwards. There are only a limited number of places to eat near the hotel, mainly fast food and Asian, so it is often better to eat in the centre, especially if you want fish. Note that buses only run every hour after 18.48 hrs.
All in all an honest straightforward hotel which provides great accomodation in super clean surroundings.

Finishing a trip round Iceland all 3 of us were hit with illness(possible food poisoning) and couldn't face another night in the Camper. So got to Reykjavik found nearest hotel to Smaralind shopping mall on the gps and what a find!!

clean modern but cosy hotel
very reasonable rates (unusual for reykjavik!)
nice public/lounge areas beside a small bar
Spacious well equipped room
British TV (BBC ITV etc.)
Free and fast Wifi access
3 mins walk to Smaralind Iceland's best Shopping Mall IMHO

Reykjavik was busy as Iceland were playing a soccer match against Scotland. The friendly and efficient Mr Magnusson looked after us really well got us into some rooms as soon as possible (11.30 a.m) as we were all suffering. Extra pillows arrived within 5 mins of asking and tea and toast was no problem and no charge.

This hotel is great if you have a car as it is quiet at night time and there is lots of free parking.

Great little Hotel with great staff and management.

A Great Place to Stay. Has Nice Friendly Front Desk Service and Good Buffet in the Morning. The Rooms are Modern and Clean. I think it is a better Place to stay then most the Top Hotels that charge much more.

The only unfortunate thing about this hotel is that it was a little bit hard to find if you do not know Reykjavik layout well. But it is worth the search.

I would stay here again gladly. No Worries*
Many thanks. Cynthia and Colin - England
