“All You Could Ask For in a Tuscan Holiday”
Reviewed May 28, 2011

We stayed in the neat little ground floor apartment at Le Casine. It is wonderfully appointed, complete with a private patio and efficiency kitchen. Two minutes to walk to the Coop (market) and to a very nice restaurant. Castelmuzio is a quiet little village, nicely located with a 10 minute drive to Pienza, 15 to S. Quirco d'Orcia, and 25 to Montalcino and Montepulciano. But the important part is the two big binders you're introduced to upon arrival. Chock full of carefully planned local trip iteneraries, restuarant reviews, tours, intros to the villages, and just a ton of activities. Our hostess Isabella has thought of virtually everything. Freebies include Isa's pasta class and group dinner, olive oil tasting, tour of Etruscan ruins, and tour of the working farm. Fluent in English, Isa is always only a phone call away if you need anything. I'm sure many other places are nice, but the bonus with Le Casine, as well as sister villa Cretaiole, is owner/operator Isabella, along with husband Carlo (wine and olive oil guru) and father-in-law Luciano. You can arrive with no idea of what you'll do, and Isa will have a plan for you. We combined Isa's opportunities with our plans, and they melded wonderfully. Le Casine is readily one of the best vacation opportunities in the region. Go stay a week, and you'll wish that you had another.

This was our second trip to Tuscany. We loved our stay at Isabella and her family's farmhouse Cretaiole so much that we decided to take a second trip to this area. Isabella and her family are the best. We enjoyed all of their activities. The winery tours and cooking classes were excellent. The pici making class/dinner was great. The food and wine were so delicious. Le Casine di Castello is a beautiful house and was perfect for our family. It was clean and comfortable. The rooftop terrace was great. The town of Castelmuzio is a nice and quiet little Tuscan town. We loved it and we can't wait to get back there again.

Isabella and her family made this trip back to Italy one of the most enjoyable and memorable experiences of my life. The beauty and splendor of the Val d' Orcia countryside is matched only by the warmth and genuine caring of the people who live there. Thank you so very much for all the energy, patience, and time you gave to each and every one of your guests. Our apartment was well stocked with everything we needed and always we were made to feel like we were part of their extended family, including picking our own vegtables from the garden.

I will return again someday and would recommend this adventure to anyone.

An enchanting apartment in a charming little Tuscan village! Very romantic (I wish my husband had been with!) We loved the charming private yard/terrace and made use of the kitchen facilites, even though the wonderful Tuscan restaurant cuisine could not be beat! It was neat and clean and just darling accommodations! This is an apartment with no staff or hotel/resort amenities, which was perfect for our trip.

A great location from which to take day trips, and the hospitality at Agriturissmo Cretaiole was wonderful! The activities suggested and planned by Isabella were great fun as well as our days just wandering the beautiful Tuscan area.

Castelmuzio, though small(pop 185), had a restaurant, a food coop and a bank, and the residents were friendly and nice.

The only negative was the night driving for us "older" ladies. Daytime driving was scenic and enjoyable, but the many curves and hills were a bit disconcerting at night on the narrow roads.

My parents stayed here for a whole month and I was able to join them for 18 days and my sister joined us for the last 9 days. Very comfortable for 4 adults. Nice eating area and den. Main bathroom was spacious so 2 people could use at the same time. Great rooftop terrace overlooking town.

Great location where you can visit many towns and make day trips for sightseeing. Isabella has 2 wonderful books in each apartment loaded with information about where to go and things to do that are very helpful. She really has thought of everything for you! Isabella offers many activities for you, also. Don't miss out on her "pici" pasta class. She and Carlo make a fabulous dinner afterwards!

Loved being there so much I have recommended to many people and can't wait to hopefully return again!

Il Nido, the small apartment in Castelmuzio, was a gem. We had our own private place in a charming town with no tourist attractions---just the local people who smiled and waved and a small restaurant and Coop grocery where we could get the essentials.
The best part was that we had access to all of the amenities of Creatoile, the wonderful agriturismo owned by the Morichinni family. Isabella, our host, did everything to make our stay enjoyable. I require a gluten-free diet and she directed us to the local grocery and pharmacia where I was able to obtain gluten-free pasta and other staples. At the farm there is a wonderful garden so we were able to pick many fresh vegetables and prepare delicious meals in our own little kitchen. The family farm has wine, cheese, salami and olive oil for sale---what more could we ask? At the celebratory dinner at the farm she kept the sauce for my gluten-free pasta separate so that I would be safe from a reaction---I spooned it on my GF pasta and was able to enjoy the salads and lots of wine----like a normal person---not one limited by a severe reaction if she ingests wheat!
We cannot say enough about all of the included activities offered----olive oil tasting, tours, a trip to an Estruscan site owned by Isabella's family, etc. Those activities for which there was a small charge were superb---a 4 hour guided hike thru the Tuscan hills, a watercolor class in a tiny nearby town, etc. I loved all of them! Both my husband and myself would highly recommend a vacation at Creatoile---or stay in one of the 2 charming apartments associated with it----you will have a wonderful time!

We stayed in "El Nido" which is Italian for "The Nest". It is the bottom unit for this two unit apartment. There was plenty of space for two people and it is decorated with a charming and romantic mix of rustic antiques.
The bathroom was big and had the best shower of all the places we had stayed at on our 33 day tour of Europe. Just bring your own toothbrush and toothpaste as everything else is provided. ( I will say here that I noticed there is no such thing as a washcloth anywhere in Europe... bring your own if you need one)
The bedroom area was so nicely appointed with beautiful linens, plenty of pillows and extra cozy blankets if you needed them. The bed was a little firmer than I'm used to but was still very comfortable.
The kitchen had everything you could need to fix a nice meal. (There is no oven but honestly, why would you want one... you're on vacation!) You can eat inside at a lovely antique farmhouse table or dine outdoors in the lovely private garden.
Isabella Moricciani has put together a full list of activities for her guests that you can pick and choose from but DO NOT miss the "Picci Night" where you learn to make pasta and then everyone has a wonderful dinner together with the fruits of your labor. Make plans, if you can, to partake in dinner at the Monastery too!
The location is central to everything you might want to see and do in the Tuscan region and Isabella has prepared wonderful itineraries for day trips you might want to take.
Do yourselves a become a part of the Moricciani family for a week or more, you are guaranteed a wonderful stay!
