“super vacation break at dharmashala n mcleodganj”
Reviewed April 12, 2014 via mobile

Its one of the best vacations so far. We stayed at 8auspicious last week for 6nights and it was as wonderful experience. We booked our stay via their website. The rooms are exactly as in the pictures in the web gallery. They confirmed with us if we needed pick up from PTK andf were very professional with email exchange. Our stay included breakfast too. Its about a km walk from main square to the hotel and new comers may be daunted by slopes on roads. But then all of mcleodganj is like that and this in no way hampers your stay at 8 auspicious. We chose the blue umbrella room which is facing the mountains. It was well equipped with hot water boiler, a heaster, duvets n extra cushions , arm chairs ad well as comfortable seating in the gallery. It also has TV in case if you want to watch! The staff is ever smiling and suipwr courteous. Although they don't mention room service they served us lunch and dinner in our rooms especially after the triund trek.the early morning breakfast and the ginger lemon honey tea was delicious. So were the pastry/ fresh baked cakes they have. For lunch and dinner they have some amazing home made pasta. And the home made jam to die for! The view from the room is super. We loved the decor of the hotel and aesthetics balanced so well with comfort. Do's and don'ts are clearly mentioned in the rooms with a no alcohol policy. Most popular places are easily accessible on jogiwara road , everything is a short walk away. They have some nice reading available too with a small library. It was a complete hassle free stay and a complete delight of a trip. The aura of the hotel does make this trip very special. 2 thumbs up for 8 auspicious him view, we'll see you soon!

After a long bus journey from New delhi to Mcleodganj, we landed at the hotel at around 8 in the morning. When our cab reached the hotel, the first thing that struck us was that it looked more like a big house or a bungalow rather than a hotel. We received a very warm welcome from the hotel staff.

We took the middle category room, with the balcony facing the valley (Golden Fish). The view, though not very enchanting, seemed better than any of the other hotels could offer. The rooms are not very spacious, but very comfortable and clean. The Bathroom is spic and span and maintained well by the housekeeping. The breakfast menu is too good, with some local homemade breads and jams. Do try their honey ginger tea. However, do not expect an elaborate menu as the place has very limited north Indian options. But then, Mcleodganj is a foodie's delight, with some lip smacking Italian and Tibetan food. You can easily walk to the nearby restaurants in the market and enjoy a variety of eating options

The highlight of the place is that it is a little away from the main market area, which is about a 10 minutes of steep walk. This of course serves in its favor, as it is more peaceful in comparison to other accommodations available. We almost walked to all popular destinations; Bhagsu falls, The Church, lake etc. Do not miss the Shiva's cafe, a trek en route to Bhagsu falls, where they serve hot Maggi and tea while you dip your legs in the falls and enjoy the beautiful view

All in all, I loved the hotel for its very warm and friendly staff and cosy rooms. Definitely a place to stay if you visit Mcleodganj

Room Tip: Try Golden Fish..it has got better view than others

We stayed here in feb for a couple of nights around Losar, the tibetan new year while we were waiting for our permanent accommodations to be ready. This place is a great find, they have three categories of rooms, and since there were three of us we got one room in the middle category and one of the best quality rooms. I think its worth it to spend the extra money for a better room although they are all very comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful.

We only stayed here a few nights, but the staff was SO helpful. Upon arrival, they were carrying our bags, setting up extra heaters in our rooms, and delivered lemon ginger honey tea to warm us up and welcome us. We loved having breakfast in their little cafe, and enjoyed meeting the other guests. Compared to other accommodations in McLeod, this is the creme de la creme!

Sonam was very helpful right from the time I corresponded online to make our reservations. Unfortunately we checked out sooner than planned due to the Dharmsala film festival, she took that in her stride too! The rooms are very nicely appointed especially in the new wing. They are large and have a small sit out. The wooden flooring gives a warm effect. The only negative to the rooms on the ground floor is that the bathrooms face the road and though there is a shower curtain on the window, women can be a little wary of turning the light on in the bathroom at night. Also if there was a shower curtain around the shower area it would save the entire bathroom from being wet after a bath. Also a little noisy from road traffic. Breakfast was excellent especially the parathas!

Room Tip: New wing rooms on top.

If you are looking for a place to stay away from the hustle bustle of the main market area and yet not too far from it, this is the one. You can view the Dhauladhar range from your balcony which is a sight in itself. The hospitality was amazing. We reached here after a 7 hr drive from Manali and were warmly received by the Hotel Manager. We had booked 3 rooms since we were a family of 7 for a 3 night stay. The breakfast used to be quite sumptuous and you do get spoilt for choice. The staff was really helpful and courteous. The rooms were quite clean and decorated in Tibetan style which added a distinct touch to the overall ambience. Would definitely recommend this place for staying.

Stayed at their premium rooms which are around 2.2k. Don't remember the name but it is on first floor in next building to reception.

Pros
1. For premium rooms, room size is proper but rectangular layout makes it appear smaller. Wooden flooring feels nice. Sony TV gives premium feeling.
2. Loved the quick hot water the geyser delivers.
3. Lovely Dhauladhar view and nice gallery with cosy bed and lovely pillow set.

Cons
1. Breakfast for veg has so much limited options. I advise skip it and don't add as complimentary with rooms but get discounts.
2. No room service even for premium rooms is not how other hotels work.
3. Far from mcleodganj happening spots like CCD circle and Dalai Lama temple.
4. Discount calculation is weird. First they add tax on entire room charges and then give discount. One pays extra tax.
5. Furniture around bed is inadequate and no space to keep even spectacles. Heater is a joke. Rusted and ineffective.

Not worth spending more than 2k. Go for basic rooms around 1.2k. A complete no-no for breakfast with canned juice served. Yucks.
