Owner description: Grade: Moderate Mcleodganj to Triund 2800 mtrs, 9 kms gradual trek. The trek offer panoramic views Bhagsu village, Mcleodganj, Dharamsala valley and distant views of Shivalik hills and plains of Kangra valley. The trek is moderate nature. Triund is a large land of green grass and pasture like. One can see the mighty Dhauladhar ranges just above the eyes. This is the base camp and climatization point for trekkers climbing the Inderahara point in the Mt. Dhauladhar.

We began the climb from Dharamkot. It was all unpaved mountain rocks, One false step and it was a goodbye. Of course i was on my first mountain trek. the distance of 10 kms to reach the Top was all rocky terrain. Half way we reached the magic view point after a climb of two hours. A tea stall served us hot piping tea . after the short break off we went , i lagged behind all. Overnight trekkers greeted us as they were returning after watching a mesmerising sunrise with the background of the snow covered peaks. At last i reached, but unfortunately it was all foggy. But it was a great climb and definately not for the weak hearted. Start early stay back for the night if you have time or retart by 3 on the way back. two small canteens serve food at the top. else carry all your camping stuff.

It all started with a random plan of me going to Mcleodganj. One second day i decided to take the trek to Triund. There are multiple ways to start the trek.
Start from Dal lake (naddi village) 2 ks from Mcloed (or) from Mcloed itself (or) from Bhagsu village. The Mcloed route one can decide to start the trek further ahead by taking an auto / taxi to dhramkot or Gallu temple (closest point to triund).

I went to dhramkot and started my trek there around 8 am. My initial plan was to reach Triund by 11 and trek further ahead. But as the reality struck me, i reached triund by 12. :(. It was tiring given the fact that, trek was steep and rocky.

But the views were awesome that made the trek worthwhile. All through the way saw, sheeps, goats running across cliffs, small shops serving maggi out of nowhere and valley views. Once I reached the top, the view of Dhauladhar range was breathtaking. As it was october there was hardly any snow.

Anyone adventurous, can actually give a shot at trekking further to Snowline which is 4 k above Triund. I skipped it and returned back after staying for 2 hrs at Top. One can also do a relaxed trek by staying on Top and returning back the next day.

The best part of the trek was different people i met on the way and nice conversations I had with them apart from the beauty of nature which is best experienced.

Have been to this trek four times and seriously cant get enough of it. Everytime I go there, something new comes to my mind. The beauty, the effort, the people, the noise of the stream and crossing muddy paths will mesmerize you altogether. The trek starts from the main crossroad of McLeodganj. The starting 3-4 kilometres become a bit tiring and the newcomers sometimes get scared and opt to go back but dont let it dishearten you, the rest of the way is not so bad. Once you reach the first dhaba, the trek becomes a little less steeper than before. There are 3 teashops on the way (if I remember right) and on the top there are 4 dhabas. Most of the teashops keep places to rent out for the night. It wont be very comfortable but ok. So if you are stuck on the top and cant make it down the same day you have one option. You can carry your tents and stay in them too of course.
The teashops serve mainly maggie, ginger tea, black tea/coffee, hot chocolate etc.. which will be priced much higher than you get in McLeodganj.

The lat stretch is very steep but when you reach there, the view is simple amazing. It feels like you are in another world and you can spot even Dharamshala from here. It is a must do while in McLeodganj.

I took part in a charity trek where Triund would be our campsite for 2 nights. We arrived at the top just as the clouds parted to reveal a stunning view of the Dhauladar Mountains. When the sun is out, it is lovely and warm but be prepared to wrap up once the sun sets and the temparature plummets!

This is a very challenging, but stunningly beautiful hike uphill from McLeod Ganj, to a high plateau with great views of the surrounding mountains. Elevation increase is over 1000 meters over an 11 meter distance. This hike can be completed as either a long day hike, or as an overnight at the top, with the option of continuing an uphill climb the next day, or coming back down again.
