“Not so family friendly!”
Reviewed June 15, 2013 via mobile

We went here after swimming - 3 adults and 2 children aged 3&4. We were served quite quickly. The food was ok. The children had sausage beans and chips which was ok. My mum and I shared high tea which was ok - not enough savoury stuff and too many cakes. The scones were ok but could have been more fresh.

Afterwards we went to the children's play area, there was no bouncy castle today. The swings are unsafe. They are fixed in such a way that they topple small children off. We didn't notice at first and both of the the children toppled off face first bsnging their foreheads/faces. The attachment means the swings rotate rather than being in a fixed sitting position.

We live quite locally to this but we wouldn't go back or recommend it!

“Bouncy Castle”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

The kids loved the bouncy castle, we sat outside on their decking with ice creams and coffee, whilst the children bounced until their hearts content, they also have a slide and swing set for them to play on as well. We didn't have any food so I can't really comment on that, but the plates we saw coming out for others looked really nice.

“fab breckie”
Reviewed June 10, 2013

Arrived for a coffee and stayed for a breckie for him and a bacon sandwich for me.
Both excellent, tasty. hot and filling.
Friendly staff and a delightful place serving home baked goods.
Lovely looking cakes, salad bar and carveries and a good menu and a pleasant wine list. It even has small bottles of fizz for us ladies that cannot quite drink a whole big bottle.
Very pleasant spot to visit.
It has a pretty hotel adjacent to the restaurant, chalets, horses and livery.
Nice location for a wedding venue with the extensive grounds.
Ideal location for those visiting Exeter show ground.

“Underwhelming”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

A nice surrounding but food, service failed to match the promise of the appearance and tone of the venue. We went specifically for brunch on a warm Sunday morning. Full cooked breakfast with coffee and juice advertised on website. I asked for this and was declined. When I brought up website on my phone, still displaying it, was shrugged off with 'yes, we need to update that'. My wife and I both wanted coffee so asked if we could just share a plunger. 5 minutes later waitress returned to confirm it was OK that would cost £5.99 extra if we wanted a plunger. The 'locally sourced butcher's sausages' were homogeneous fatty mass produced style bangers which i'm sure most butchers would be embarassed to be associated with. No local supplier mentioned! Very nice scrambled egg and thick granary bread couldn't rescue a disappointing experience.
Champagne prices for greasy-spoon style cafe food & service. Head somewhere else for a relaxing quality weekend brunch.

“Mouldy scones!”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

Visited Popplefords for a cream tea. What a mistake! Never again. Ordered one cream tea with fruit scones and one with plain. Lovely big teapot with hot fresh tea. That was the last of the good news! Scones came out and had mould on - yes MOULD! Clotted cream looked like it had been frozen and tasted awful. Waitress really wasn`t that interested but did change our mouldy scones with a "here you go". For nearly £12 it was so very disappointing.
