“Best few weeks I've ever had”

If you're going to Panama, go to Santa Catalina and stay here. The family are so nice and the food is great. Such a relaxing place to be. Went for a few days and stayed nearly a month. Great place to go surfing.

At first look the hostel looks a little shabby, but as soon as you look more in detail the hostel is decorated with lovely ideas mingled together.
The family owned hostel (french and panamanians) welcomes you, and the price for sleeping in a dorm is really low ($ 6 included breakfast).
Surf rental is possible and the beach is reachable by a stair.
They own also a restaurant. Unfortunately the kitchen is really small and the food takes a long time to be prepared (if you eat with a group, you will never have the food all together). Still, the food is delicious and the variety very broad.

I felt really comfortable at this hostel, as the staff is grateful to have you and always open to have a nice chat.

I was traveling in my own vehicle from Florida to Argentina. Crossed all of the Central American countries before entering into South America.
Throughout my travels, Sta Catalina Surf Point has to be one of the places I have felt most at home and comfortable. This is because of the people there. It is family owned hostel. And from the first time I called ahead and was actually received by them, they made me feel as if I where part of their family.
I was camping, actually sleeping in my truck, so I can't review the sleeping accomodations. Although the camping spots are fantastic as you are right on top of the beach.
The location is fabulous. At the south end of Sta Catalina as you drive right down onto the beach. On the weekends, the local tourists from the closests cities (primarily Santiago) come down to Sta Catalina and enjoy the beaches and facilities.
SCSP has a fantastic bar / restaurant set up. A deck sitting up about 5 meters from the beach with a great view of the waves, beach, and small river below.
The food is absolutely fantastic. I would rate it 5 stars and put it up against any of the fancy gourmet restaurants in the cities.
I stayed there for about a week and loved every minute of it. Walk a few steps to the beach with my surf board, have a nice surf, come in for breakfast, repeat, back for lunch, etc...
I highly recommend Santa Catalina Surf Point to anyone who enjoys great friendly atmosphere, great food, enjoys the beach / waves, and generally likes to have a good time and feel great. So that pretty much applies to most everyone.
If you are in Panama, it is definitely worth going to stay there.
