“Fantastic location with simple, natural beauty”
Reviewed January 12, 2014 via mobile

Simple, clean huts with good communal kitchen and bathroom facilities. Walk down the steps to a fantastic beach which has some great surf for beginners and those learning the craft. Zigor and Ellie are great hosts with time for everyone. Really good value for money in a beautiful location, didn't want to leave!

We came to stay for a week but just couldn't leave. Stayed for over three weeks! The friendly staff and the atmosphere at Rancho Estero made it really hard to leave even after three weeks. Zigor who manages the place is extremely friendly and helpful, making you feel at home and that you have everything you need. Also the local man working there, Anel, is very nice and service-minded. Zigor is also an excellent surfer and surf instructor and I really recommend having a few lessons with him no matter what level you're on. Rancho Estero has the most beautiful view of the beach along with direct access to the beach. We spend hours in the hammocks (in the shade with ocean view) between morning and afternoon surf. Can't get any better!

I have 3 trips to Sta. Catalina and couldn't imagine a better experience. Inexpensive, and clean the rooms are comfortable and separated enough to afford privacy. I'll be back this February to take advantage of the ocean, friendship and ease of living that staying at Rancho can bring.... If something bothers you it's probably because you are still on "sity time" and not going with the flow. Great rentals from Fluid Panama Adventuers and the ocean 100 feet away makes for great days and aperfect sleeping at night....Of you don't try to stay here you are missing a great opportunit y for fun and relaxation. Enjoy every minute.

My husband, brother, and I stayed at Rancho Estero for a few days while we were taking surfing lessons with Michael, from Fluid Adventures (he is awesome, you should book a lesson with him). The cabana we stayed in was great -- it had three beds, all with mosquito netting (there weren't many mosquitos, but it kept other bugs from falling on us). The shared bathrooms were clean, with warm showers. The groundskeeper was always working to keep the place beautiful. There were hammocks in the shade, that overlooked the ocean -- perfect to come back to after a long morning of surfing in the sun.

There is a fridge and cooking facilities that you can use, if you choose to buy your own food. We didn't, because the restaurants were really reasonably priced, and very good. Santa Catalina is gorgeous, and the locals were super nice, and patient with us and our beginner's Spanish.

I can't wait to go back. :)

great place, direct view on estero beach to check out how the surf is. if the wave are good: grab a board and walk down to the beach (1 min). For the good surfers: la punta is close, but you don't have a direct view on it. the basic huts are very nice and clean
and there's a big and beautiful garden with palms and flowers, stunning view and hammocks. no room service. basic shared kitchen (although fridge could be bigger). very helpfull manager & charming local staff. bikes would be cool for riding to town (20 min walk, but easy to hitch-hike). good restaurants nearby (2-10 min walking distance). we're looking forward to come back to rancho estero!

We stayed here for 5 nights with our kids ages 11 and 8. We had the big cabana that is next to the outdoor kitchen/common area. I loved cooking in the outdoor kitchen and eating our meals with such a great view was the best. We bought beers and pop from the fridge and also went to town to stock up on our own stuff. We spent every morning and afternoon thereafter surfing just below Rancho Estero at the beginners beach. (We rented the boards from Rancho Estero and took a family lesson from Michael.) We walked over to the resort that is just across the estuary from Rancho Estero and it was too much like civilization for us! We did walk into town for a few dinners which was a short easy walk. The place was super clean (including the shared bathrooms), loved the feel of it and Rose was super helpful and very nice. I wouldn't stay anywhere else and would love to come back.
