With spring weather beckoning we had a ride out following our Good Pub Guide. This pub is a delight. Proper pub, wooden floor, bench seating (with seat cushions), old fashioned bar. Nice range of real ale even on a Wednesday lunchtime - we tried 2 Hobson's & Exmoor Gold and they were all perfect. Very friendly landlord and locals and dogs allowed in the bar. Since this was to be our main meal of the day and we are not pudding people we ordered a starter and a main course each. We were warned that the French Onion Soup & the Garlic Mushrooms would be large for starters and this was not a lie. They were really light mains but truly delicious with loads of fresh crusty bread. We were pretty full before our main courses arrived! I had Ham, Eggs & Chips. If there is nicer ham cooked ham anywhere I have never tasted it - delicious doesn't do it justice; with lovely deep yellow yolked eggs (possibly from the hens running around the garden?) & home made chips it was a meal any cook could have be proud of. My husband had chicken, mushroom & leek pie - stuffed full of chicken with a feather light pastry top. Even though it's hardly local, we will definitely return - but possibly give the 'starters' a miss. Lovely place.
