“Good for families, needs a touch up”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

We booked the hotels as some of our group had been to other hotels in the chain. Having been here I think the current reviews are about right.

The hotel is in a lovely position in Worcestershire and is an impressive building. The main issue is that it needs some decoration to it and looks a little unloved.

The staff in the main are very helpful, but they are lacing in number. At every meal it was a struggle to get their attention due to the number of guests and lack of staff.

The food was good, although portions were small especially some kids portions that were a bit of a joke.

We stayed in the courtyard building as we had dogs, which are welcome and was fine, although I am glad we had space outside our room as I wouldn't have wanted them in our room.

If you don't have kids this is not the place for you, as it is definitely aimed at families and the service is based around that. They offer a good nanny and crèche service.

The spa is small but adequate, although sadly the steam room was out of service when we were there.

The rooms were way too hot and all of us had to sleep with the windows open to cool down.

Overall a pleasant stay and good value for money. Spend some money on the decorations of the building and have a few more staff and this would make for an excellent hotel.

Dear Bobbk76,

Thank you very much for posting this review of your recent stay with us. It is lovely to hear how much your family enjoyed your time at The Elms. I will be sure to pass on your comments to the Food & Beverage departments.

We are well underway with a refurbishment program and have seen some changes take place already, although this is all scheduled around the demands of the business so there is very little disruption to our guests, therefore is ongoing and does take some time to complete.

We hope to see you back to see all the great changes in the near future!

Kind Regards

This was a belated birthday treat with the family and had to suit age range from 3-70 and it succeeded very well. The room we had, in the main house, was spacious, very comfortable and well-equipped. The grandchildren were very happy with the great children's facilities and so were we. Especially welcome was the breakfast in the Bear's Den when they were collected by the lovely creche staff at 8.00 am on the Sunday morning. We did have a slight issue with part of the meal on the first night but this was dealt with amicably and professionally to our satisfaction. We enjoyed the pool and the spa. The whole experience was very relaxed and enjoyable. Reception staff were excellent. Just one minor niggle - no plain yoghurt for breakfast on both mornings, apparently "waiting for a delivery"!

Once again a perfect few days at The Elms. Fantastic staff who are very good with our energetic 2.5 yr old and 6 month old. Great food, comfy beds, relaxed atmosphere. Whatever time of year we go we love it. Creche a true godsend with lots of fun activities planned for little ones. Took dog this time but personally prefer rooms in the main hotel to the dog friendly rooms in the coachhouse. Wonderful treatments at the Spa. Expensive but so lovely to be somewhere so special. See you again soon!

After nearly two weeks of build up, christmas day, post christmas family get togethers and new year's eve, my family and I were DESPERATE to get away for a few days before heading back to work and the kids went back to school, for a rest. And The Elms totally delivered.
We booked quite late and the only option available to us was to stay in the Coach House, which was very nice. We did however ask to change rooms after the first night as we were awoken rather early from the family above us - thankfully there was another room in the Coach House we could move into and it was ideal, quiet and a little more room.
The creche was great and allowed both the children and ourselves some rest-bite for a couple of hours in the morning before lunch and heading out for the afternoon. The children made friends and the child minders were lovely.
The fairy trail was an inspired idea for the children. Even after doing it the first time, once they had made friends from the creche or playground, I think they did another couple of rounds of locating all the fairy doors. The children had a ball.
My only criticism was the room in which high tea was served (the early sitting) which was a really 'cold' room - harsh lighting, lots of dead space, not much atmosphere. We asked on the second night whether we could dine at the family time in the bar area, which was far more pleasant for both us and the children.
Overall, a great stay, totally relaxing and we will be very happy to go again soon.

Room Tip: First floor rooms in the coach house are a lot quieter than on the ground floor.

Dear laughighsid,

Thank you very much for posting such a lovely and detailed review of your stay with us. It is great to hear how much the whole family enjoyed themselves during our busy post new year period. I will be sure to pass your comments on to the rest of the team and work on a solution for the high tea room during busy times, although we are happy to hear our flexibility allowed you to enjoy a dinner somewhere to suit.

We very much look forward to welcoming you back again in the near future!

We were a family group of ten celebrating grandfather/grandson birthdays as well as a return to health of one of the party. This the weekend 16-17th.Feb. We had an outstanding experience from a smiling attentive staff who saw to our every need. The accommodation was spacious, warm and comfortable and the menu was suitably varied in quality and quantity to satisfy all our tastes.

We were a little uncertain about booking this at first, as we had stayed at another hotel in their chain (the 'Luxury Family Hotel' in the New Forest) which had really bad staff.

However, The Elms Hotel was fantastic. The staff were really switched on, the creche staff were particularly good with all the kids, playing games with them and creating fun activities.

The spa was pretty good, with a nice relaxation room to escape all the noise when needed. There was also a good choice of areas to eat - light lunches in the spa, bar food at the bar and excellent fine dining in the restaurant. We were intending to eat out on a couple of nights, but we actually stayed in for all four nights, as it was so relaxing and enjoyable.

We did a couple of shopping day trips to the nearby Westfield shopping centre (25 mins away) and Worcester (less exciting), but mostly enjoyed the grounds and facilities at the hotel. Even though we went in half-term week and they were fully booked, there was still plenty of space for our son to roam and enjoy things. Highly recommended.

(The only reason for rating the hotel 4 stars and not 5 is that they need to refurbish a bit with fresh carpets and so on, I guess having all the children around they are making best use of what they have until they redecorate - all fine, just a bit worn).

Room Tip: We had room 1, which has a nice view at the grounds out of the front of the hotel, and a roll-top ba...

Have not been here for many years - so when we went for lunch were quite surprised to see that The Elms had changed from a rather grand country house hotel to a family spa complex.

Lots of noisy children in residence so if you are looking for a quiet drink and relaxing lunch this may not be the best choice.

Food could not be faulted and both food and beverages were reasonably priced. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. However, on leaving we concluded, for us, the place has lost some of its former charm.

Room Tip: Only had lunch so unable to comment on rooms

Dear TraLonW,

Thank you for posting your review of your recent visit to the Spa at The Elms. We appreciate your comments regarding the hotel not being quite as it used to be and we embrace the changeover from a country house hotel and spa to a Luxury Family Hotel with family friendly Spa. With this, we are busy with families using the hotel, spa and dining areas, especially during school holidays, although we do still cater very well for adults wishing to enjoy a more relaxing spa day or lunch...we would just recommend, if this is the day you are seeking, to visit us during term time as this is more suited to the pre-school families.

We do hope this visit doesn't deter you from visiting us again as we would love to welcome you back, I will be sure to pass on your kind comments regarding the food & drink to the relevant departments.

Kind Regards
