“Great VfM - and the kids will love it!”

I come here all the time with my kids (6 and 4) and they love it.

There are bouncy castles, tractor rides, several playgrounds, a nature trail, indoor activities (in winter), a cafe (which is decidedly hippy chic - be warned), a shop that sells complete tat, loads of animals (and the farm run sessions where animals are held by children), pig racing, trampolines, sand pits, and loads more. Totally worth it.

Yes, it looks a little tired in places. But the staff are great, the atmosphere relaxed and it's a great day out. Ladies - be warned that loos are few in number however!

Go and have a look at least! :)

This is a rare breeds farm that has added some children's play area's to widen its appeal. We visited on Sunday 30th of June, the weather was excellent which was just as well, as the farm itself was something of a let down. The whole place looks as if it could do with some serious investment. The animal pens, although safe, were scruffy and in need of refurbishment. As another reviewer (Steve M) has pointed out, the labels on the animal pens need work. The catering facilities were neat, clean and tidy but the kitchen was unprofessional. It looked like the sort of thing that you would find at a jumble sale refreshment stall, not what I would expect at a professional tourist attraction. The toilets were clean and well maintained. The outdoor children's play area's were adequate, if a little tired.
The play barn however, was a different story, it was smaller then we expected from the leaflet we had but worst of all the concrete floor was breaking up and loose stones were scattered over the floor, not the sort of thing I would expect in a play area were children are required to play in stocking feet. It was also apparent that the floor had been patched so this is not a new problem. The play barn would benefit from a new floor and some heavy duty carpet.
The nature trail was poorly signposted with no indication that we could see of which way to go but plenty of "Danger - Do Not Enter" signs. We eventually found our way out. The picnic tables were in need of repair (my wife caught her trousers on a protruding nail) and extra rubbish bins are needed.
On the plus side the few staff we did see were courteous, polite and helpful. Overall the place was a let down. As for length of visit, 3 to 4 hours are more then enough.

Visited on a very cold but dry day in April with two 10 year olds and an 8 year old. They loved it!! What struck me was how open it all was. In the summer you could imagine plonking your picnic blanket down and letting the children wander around on their own. There was plenty to entertain the children; as well as the animals there were activities throughout the day, including the pig race and bottle feed the lambs and kids. There were several playgrounds and also a nature trail (which we did not do as we had limited time there). The cafe was hilarious! The staff were very friendly but it took ages for our toasted sandwiches to come out and another couple who were in there before us still had not got their beans on toast and scrambled egg on toast by the time we had finished. There was the smell of burning about three time when we were in there, once the fire alarm went off! Would certainly recommend and are already planning a return visit when (?) the weather is warmer, but we will take a picnic!!

At first sight the farm looks rather ramshackle, but after a while that becomes one of the places strengths. There are some interesting animals here, but the information for each type really needed work, most were just laminated A4 sheets, and there is a lot of potentially interesting stories on the site. The kids play areas were not the latest styles but perfectly OK for the job. The Nature Trail had a lot of potential and will be good later in the year. Staff were clearly enjoying their jobs. Cafe OK, and admission prices reasonable. I had my doubts about the place when I first arrived but we spent a good 4 hours here and everyone was happy - which is as good as you can hope for!

We visited on Easter Sunday, with a biting cold wind but dry thankfully. The entry charges were fair, teh shop small (that's good to me) and the animals & activities as expected. We spent around 5 hours there, with six children aged 4 to 7 thoroughly enjoying themselves (as did the adults). The numerous playgrounds was good. As with most farm parks, from some points the distance to the loos is a long way.
