Clean comfortable and quiet and everything you might need. Very well stocked and complementary breakfast very welcoming. Parking for two cars next to the property. The Town Path over the meadows to the Cathedral and city centre is a must, starting at The Old Mill.
Lovely walk into Salisbury along the town trail - peaceful even saw water voles. The mill pub a short walk is ideal to sit out in their garden on a sunny day or sit out in the front of the mill chilling. We took our two dogs & baby and the cottage / house was more than adequate! Helen even sourced a proper mattress for the baby travel cot. Bedrooms on different levels and if you don't find stairs taxing then this is the place for you. Beds very comfy. Towels & lovely shower gel provided. Some bits such as milk, eggs & butter provided in the kitchen, which is great if you don't want to go out straight away. Living room is comfy (one seatee & other small chairs). Unfortunately there was a problem with the wifi / TV whilst we stayed over the bank holiday but this didn't put us off. Plenty of books to read. There are also a few lovely short walks locally. Turn left from the house along the river & see if you can find the Highland cattle & their calves. Or walk into Salisbury via the town trail.
This was a great fit for my family. We are a family of six moving to the UK from the States. Helen and Stephen could not have been more helpful in answering our questions and responding to any inquiry. We loved walking into Salisbury (about 10 minute stroll) for dinners, lunch, and just enjoying the sites. Easy parking, which is always an issue so close to town). Thank you Helen for all your help with finding places to rent! I highly recommend this property and this owner.
Also, the property is in very great shape. Everything you would normally have at a hotel (shampoo, conditioner) is there plus food in the fridge for your arrival. Happy to answer any questions you may have!
The front garden is a lovely courtyard sun-trap with half a dozen wooden chairs and table.
Immediately on entering you're in a large lounge/diner with a substantial wooden table and six chairs. One wall of this room is largely given over to a huge selection of paperback and hardback books. Covering, I would guess, most tastes.
There's a lovely gas effect coal fire which is easy to use, although we found it largely unnecessary as the house is warm and cozy. At the far end is a large, modern flat-screen TV with Amazon and Netflix TV 'on tap'. The rest of the room has sofa, chairs, and a central coffee table. Unlike so many holiday lets, there are a number of lights (and even candles) which allows you to choose a lighting level that suits. The lounge has a stereo system as well with some CD's. In a nod to the technological age the main room downstairs has a quad-USB socket for charging your phone, iPod, iPad, and so on. Seems like a small thing but it is typical of the cottage that the owners seem to have thought of ALL the small things; it makes for a really relaxing stay.
The kitchen is brilliantly laid out with everything you could possible need.
On the first floor there is a 'den' with another large screen TV; again with Netflix, Amazon, and a DVD player. There's even a huge selection of DVD's to choose from....and more books.....and another stereo; with yet more CD's. There is a sofa and a couple of beanbags in the den area too. This is the most child friendly area, with a selection of books and games.
Next to the den is the main bedroom - double bed; very comfortable, and a bunch of pillows. This is the ensuite bedroom and it is worth saying at this point that the bathrooms are magnificently appointed with shampoos, body washes, conditioner, and even......for the terminally forgetful.....toothbrushes and toothpaste. This bathroom has a shower, sink and loo. For anyone large in terms of height or width it might be a bit of a squeeze, for me it was fine. All the bedrooms have plenty of storage space. The bedrooms too have been really well thought out in terms of lighting and available sockets - top class.
On the top floor there are two more bedrooms and a further bathroom - all beautifully equipped. Comfortable, spacious, space and drawers aplenty. Of note is that all bedrooms have a good supply of coat hangers.
Throughout the house the soft furnishings are beautiful, and we were left loads of towels, flannels and so on. There was also a well chosen stock of food and drink left for us.
The house is in a quiet location with really close footpaths into the local water meadows. The centre of town is a level walk away; maybe twenty minutes or so.
In conclusion, we are pretty fussy holiday makers and you get used to places being 'just okay'. This cottage exceeds expectations on every level and it was an absolute pleasure to stay here. Salisbury is a fascinating and vibrant town and we will probably come back to explore more. Absolutely no question where we will stay!
