Staying locally on a short break and thought we might give it a try .As usual i looked it up on trip Adviser and was disappointed with the reviews .but i must agree. The 4 of us are Curry lovers and feel that the food was not bad but not exceptional .On trying a 2 chilli rated meal it was mildly hotter than a Fishermans Friend !And the single Chilli meal very mild .It may be that this is the excepted norm in this area and not the same as a "City Curry" in which case i have no complaints and might suggest they add something to their Menu a bit Spicier ?
My main gripe was the staff (not all) seemed more interested in watching the Man Utd Game on TV than there customers needs ,especially when asked if the Chef could do a Garlic Rice to get the reply if its not on the menu ..no .Ive never been to a restaurant which was quite and the waiter not go and ask the Chef if this was possible ..incidently we overheard a couple on the next table who were food critics on a local paper pick this up !
No complaints about the meal quality but feel they could improve on the menu variety ,some staff and increase the scoviles on some of the dishes ?

Having phoned the restaurant yesterday to ask if a reservation was necessary for saturday night we were no it was not if we were arriving early with just a small party.
We arrived at 7 this evening to be greeted with "do you have a reservation" we explained no and why not and we told in quite an un-friendly manner that we should have made one but that they did infact have a table.
Neither the meal nor the service were in anyway special and when we came to pay the bill we presented our Telegraph Subscriber Privilege Card which offers discounts at certain restaurant in the area. We had checked the Telegraph website to make sure that the Royal Jaipur was listed, which it was. The man who came to collect the bill who later we found out was the manager, Sayeed Ali, very rudely told us that they had cancelled that discount 4 weeks previously. We paid in full but checked the information with the waiter who said that the discount has been cancelled by the manager today!
One of our party went to talk to the manager who was very rude and unhelpful and offered no solution nor seemed to care.
As a Chef and restaurant owner for many years I was disgusted and appalled at the attitude and arrogance of the manager. As we left I said how disappointed we were and the manager merely shrugged his shoulders and said what can I do.........obviously this man is completely un-qualified to manage any thing particularly an establishment in the hospitality industry.
The matter has been reported to the Telegraph who hopefully will remove this restaurant from their website.
We will never go back and recommend that no-one else does either as many of the other reviews here have stated how awful it was......it would appear that all they care about is the money and not about their customer base. Needless to say we didn't leave a tip!!

14/09/2013 - arrived and asked for table of 3, we were asked if we had booked - we hadnt because we had rung the night before and were told we didnt need to. The waiter then complained saying we should have booked...brilliant start!
Food was lovely, very nice meal, yet when going to pay we had problems. Tried using our Telegraph privilege card 2for1 offer (this restaurant is on their website!) and the manager told us they stopped accepting them...when we questioned our waiter he said they stopped accepting them this morning - coincidence??!! when i approached the bar and asked for the manager again he refused to let us have the offer and said they told the Telegraph 3/4weeks ago they were not taking part (what happened to this morning?) I very much doubt the Telegraph would take almost a month to remove them from the offer! I asked for his name and he wrote it down then told me he in fact wasn't the manager...hmmm?
We left very angry, he spoke to me very rudely and in a very condescending manner and it was very obvious something was not right as all the staff grouped together at the bar after we left to discuss - they all scarpered when i approached the 'manager' previously!
Wont go there again....

An average meal. Staying next door at the New Forest Lodge. Had a prawn starter, and tummy was rumbling by the time the main arrived! Food tasted OK, service was fine. Next time in the area will try eating at the pub.

A little disappointed in the evening. The food was not too bad, which also means not too special. Average food and service. The disappointing part of the evening for us was at the end when there was very obvious hints about their tip. Do you want to add any extra to your bill was asked and looking under napkins. This was a shame.
