My wife and I stayed for only a single night as we were breaking up a journey. We were met by the owner Di, who was reserved but polite and welcoming. We were immediately offered a hot drink and recommended an evening walk - which we duly took at nearby Dinton Park.
We stayed in the Oak Room which was well furnished and spotlessly clean. The bed was very comfortable with an excellent mattress. The private bathroom was spacious with separate bath and large shower and again, was spotlessly clean.
Di recommended several nearby pubs/restaurants and helpfully supplied us with both menus and typed instructions on how to find them. We selected the Ship Inn which was only a 5 minute drive away and was excellent.
The guest lounge was large and comfortable and by the time we had returned from our walk, the woodburner had been lit and was very inviting. As has been previously mentioned in these reviews, Dowtys has only recently been opened as a B&B and it shows in the excellent condition of the building and the furnishings.
Negatives? Just a couple. First of all the Oak Room does not have an en-suite but instead has a private bathroom and so you do have to step out into a communal corridor. To be fair, it doesn't actually state that the room is en-suite on the website, but an en-suite is something we prefer. However, there is a bathrobe provided in the bathroom and so your modesty is preserved!
The other point, that may or may not bother you, is that there is no television in the room with the only one being in the communal lounge. I say it may not bother you as I think we watch too much television anyway and it's good to talk to other human beings. That said, if there really is something you want to see, then you will have to rely on the goodwill of your fellow hosts.
